Hi All. I mentioned in a previous thread about upgrading your speakers in a 2003-05 Accord Sedan. I wanted to give you a bit more information. As stated before, I used AS69Q AUDIOBAHN 6X9 speakers in the rear because of their high sensitivity level. They work wonderfully with excellent base response. A few tips on installing these. First, to remove the grills over the speakers, be sure to push the holding tabs (I can't think of the right name for them) up from inside the trunk. There are three white ones and one black. Don't mix these up when you remove them. The black one goes in a specific slot on the grill. If you don't push the tabs from inside the trunk you run the risk of breaking them and/or breaking the grill piece. Once you remove the grill, you will need to turn it upside down and cut away the entire inside "standoff" circle. This does not affect the function of the speakers or the grill, but make room for the taller 6x9's. I used an exacto knife--be careful! You will need an 8mm socket to remove the four screws that hold in the speakers. Be careful when removing these, as there are little nooks and crannies that they can fall into. Same with the holding tabs for the grills. The Audiobahns will be snug but they fit fine. Bolt them back down with the 8mm screws and you will need to splice into the speaker wires. I can supply the color codes later for + and - unless someone here on the forum already has them. Do not install the crossover wires supplied in the speaker kit. They will suppress the bass, and the bass is what these speakers is mostly about, although they do provide mids very well.

I tried to install some pioneer TGM 690s or something like that, they were the 4 way 240 watt rated 6 by 9s.

AND they sounded horrible....so now im really confused as to whether i should stick with my stock speakers or upgrade them, because i thought those pioneers would be pretty decent.
but umm i guess not.

any suggestions anyone?

btw i have the 180 watt system in my car (since its the 6 spd)

I'd reccomend brands such as infiniti, mb quart, focal, or boston acoustics. my experience is that brands such as pioneer, sony, clarion, etc, are meant to be affordable and mainstream, but not outstanding sound quality. I've been looking into the focal setups myself. I have a couple customers that have them installed and they sound very good.

Pioneer has flip flopped back & forth.... some people have had some really great sound (in their opinion) I think it depends on the shape of the vehicle, head unit & which model of speaker.

Before you give up on non OEM speakers try another brand.... I know it's a pain to return..... but I have a feeling you'll like a different one better! :D

I think the head is Alpine (?) so when you hear them in the store see if you can use another Alpine unit.... it may not mean anything, but it's possible that the speaker-unit combination makes a difference..... :dunno:

I don't know which ones are which.... I THINK the ones with NAV are Alpine...

Others will know this better than me...

Which ever it is.... if you use the same brand in the store when speaker shopping you MAY get a better idea of what the combination will sound like.... :dunno:

its possible, but i dont know the pioneers sounded better than anything else in the store and they were running of an alpine head unit.

in anycase i think it comes down to the manner in which each speaker is rated at. you dont want to hook up a 240 w speaker to a 180 watt sound system, since the speakers are only getting 180/6 power = 30 watts each.

as a result they are going to sound crap. i think that is what happened with the pioneers. they started flubbing and had no bass whatsoever.

im actually even more impressed with my stock 6 spd sound system. i thinik i might try someother 6 by 9s simmply cos its notthat big of an issue to buy, try and return.

but i think if u want good bass response you might consider getting an amp and a couple of 10s.

right on that, underpowering speakers is terrible for the speaker as well as sounding bad.
