Great site guys. Thanks to Benjamming for letting me know about it.

I was curious how you broke in your engine? I have the 2.4 and basically for the first 700 miles, I didn't shift above 4k RPMs. I mainly kept it in the 3k rpm range. I drove a lot of stop and go to keep the rpms varied as possible.

Also, I can't see the oil on the dipstick bc it's so new but should I expect it to be at the full mark or in between? I know some cars the oil level hits the top, while some (like my wife's Focus) only show it being in the middle of the two wholes. Also, any oil consumption in the first few thousand miles?

you're doing good in my opinion. I drove extremely conservitavely for the first 1000 miles. changed original oil just before 5000 miles... no measurable oil loss for me. :)

My 02 V6 used about 1 qt in the 1st 5k miles. It was at the full level when I took delivery.

Oh yeah, Welcome!

When mine is full (2004 2.4L) there is oil in the top hole of the dipstick. Mine used about 3/4 of a quart during the 1st 1500 miles so keep an eye on it.

I keep mine somewhere between the top hole and the halfway point (there's no halfway "mark"). I'd prefer to keep it real high all the time but I don't because I heard that overfilling can lead to foaming and sludging...obviously no good

That's true but only in large quantities, like a quart or more over full. I agree that if it is between the marks (holes) that it's just fine.

Thanks. RTexasF, did the consumption stop or does it still use a bit of oil between changes?

It hasn't used a drop since. I use Mobil 1 0W20 and go 7500-8000+ miles on it using a Honda filter.

Welcome, buster!!

We mostly just didn't stay at one speed or rpm for long periods of time for the first 500+ miles. Then changed it at the 5K. If there was a loss it was small enough that he didn't tell me....;)

Thanks. I have about 850 miles on the car. Was about 1/4 of a qt low. It could have came like that so I'm not quite sure. I've followed what you guys have suggested since I drove it off the lot.
