My 05 Accord EX Coupe was built in October of 2004.

When I got it home from the dealer in early December I noticed that the paint seemed “rough”. I cleaned it and it was the same.

A couple of weeks ago I clayed the paint then waxed it with Meguires NXT Generation Tech Wax.

The paint felt smooth and slick, but I did not run my hand across the entire car. After all, I just waxed it!

Today I happened to run my hand across the quarter panel, and felt the same roughness in a part of the panel. As you move your hand across the paint, it is smooth and slick, then it feels rough, and you can hear your fingertips going across the paint.
I also found the same roughness in a couple of other places.

The dealer said that they had not put the auto butler on my car and thats why the paint is that way.

Im not buying that. The paint should be smooth, this is a new car not subject to months of abuse.

Anyone have a clue as to what this is?

Sounds like you have a case of overspray or have been subjected to some fall out.
Have you tried claying the spots again?
I picked up some overspray somewhere during the last month.
Could have been at an inspection and somebodys neighbor was using blue spray paint... heck anything is possible.
If you washed the car and it feels rough then you will need to clay again.
Sometimes where you live, park, work could contribute to the circumstances.
Keep us posted.

I only clayed it once. Ill try it again.

It was this way when I got it from the dealer.

One part that Im going to have a hard time claying is on the front of the car hear the H mark. The plastic to the side of that is pretty bad too.

I also found a few things on the hood that are under the paint, so it had to be there at the factory.

I wonder if I was better off with an import car rather than one assembled in the US.

When we bought our silver '02 it had orange polka dots all over it. We'd picked it up at night & didn't see them until the next day! The dealer offered to remove whatever it was for us, but we decided to do it ourselves. LOTS of work! They did come off though.

The car had come from "another" dealer, so no one knew what it could be. To us it looked like a paint type fallout.

The Pilot didn't have any paint flaws, factory or otherwise. The '03 has a hair under the paint on a back door. So far, no one else has pointed it out... it's amazing how it has "shrunk" over the past year! It seemed massive when I first saw it!!

It's cuz yur a-usin that fancy store-bought clay.

I got some Carolina Red, that I'll sell ya, cheap. It's straight frum mah back yard, and it must be good since the dawgs use it an awful lot....

Seriously tho (yeah, right),

Have you tried a mild polish? If it's the paint, and not some sort of deposits, clay won't do a thing.

Hey, it's not any harder than the clay. And you can do it by hand. You can "test" a spot and see what happens. Up to ya...
