Don't you think this is way too much trouble just to get the answer to this question?

yes- this was the most annoying way to join a forum; i almost gave up as I was overlooking the first line with 'Princess' as the answer to 'Who manages our Honda Accord Factory Facts?'

You also realize that you cannot search a forum for 'Honda Accord Factory Facts' without answersing also knowing the answer to the question 'Who manages our Honda Accord Factory Facts'?

It is done to manage spam. Since we instilled this policy, we've had almost NO spam.

Sorry it is difficult, but the benefits outweigh the negatives here.

I love it!!! Great Idea that needs to be passed on to other forums!

+1...maybe even add more questions. That way they only become a member if they really want to. Have 10 questions total to keep the trolls away.

That question is very annoying. I was one more try away from simply not joining. I hear you on the spam thing but man, as you limit spam, you limit members joining.

We have more than enough members, so if more join, or not, is no big deal. I did not start this site to be in competition with anyone or to build the biggest forum on the net. I already webmaster another forum with over 62,000 members, and the bigger it gets, the more difficult it is to manage.

If the goal is to limit membership then they should charge an annual fee and offer better content. Might even make some money. Doing a science project to reset a password is bogus, website kept saying I exceeded log-in attempts when I didn't, and I even enetered the correct password after being locked out for over 30 mins, not the 15. Ended up re-registering. It was easier and less time consuming.

I didn't have any trouble finding the answer when signing up. I've been on other forms that were infested with spam it's very annoying. If this keeps the spam off the form I'm all for it.

I'm not a native English speaker, and yet I've managed quite well with that security question. In general, I'd first read any forum for a while before deciding to join (it usually happens when I have a question and believe I can get an answer there).

I am also moderator on another forum (totally non-car related) and I had in fact proposed our Admin to introduce similar thing, but unfortunately, the "engine" of that forum does not provide such possibility :(
