Is the "dimming" function really noticeable? I only ask because my other vehicle has an auto dimming RVM and you can definitely tell when it tints/dims at night. But my Accord, not so much, thus I really cannot tell if it's working properly. I cover the "eye" on the back of the mirror with my finger or a piece of electrical tape and there is no change in the way the mirror looks.

For the record, I didn't think it worked at all when I first bought it back in May and my dealer replaced it, so this is a new unit I'm questioning. :dunno:

Mine does work. It works when theres a bright light pointed towards the mirrior. By placing your hand, over it, doesnt activate the dimming. Try with a bright flashlight, flashing at the mirror and see what happens.:)

Yes, but doesn't the "eye" on the back of the mirror need to be covered to simulate the dark? IIRC, the auto dim function works only when it's dark.

Yes it does work when its dark, however, a light has to be pointed towards the RVM. Otherwise the mirror activiate. Light has to be pointed toward the sensor so that it can dim off the brightness at night. If its daytime, you wont notice at all, or very little. Wait til tonight, activate the RVM, i believe yours have a button in the middle, and have someone point a flashlight, or their high beams towards the rear of your car.
Thats how i discovered what my RVM is.
Give it a shot if not already.

Since we are on the subject of the auto-dimming mirrors, I was wondering if anyone else's auto dim mirror and compass shut off when the car is shifted into reverse, and then comes back on when the car is in drive? I am assuming this is a built-in safety feature, but the auto dim mirror I had in my 03 Accord didn't do this and the one on my 07 Accord does.

Yes, putting the tranny in reverse will cancel the auto-dimming function but not turning the compass off though. At least mine doesn't do that.

I can definitely tell when it autodims -- it'll look blue tinted.

Too bad it vibrates horribly. I have to keep the top edge pressed against the headliner.

The OEM RVM works great. Too bad they don't have side mirrors like that. On the highway at night when I get some truck behind me I don't get blinded at all, no matter how close the truck is! What bothers me is if I am on the right lane and some idiot on the left doesn't pass but just stays there with his lights pointing to my driver side mirror. So what I do I move the mirror facing down and don't see his lights in my face anymore. Sometimes I push the mirror back to his face - lol - and reflect his light back on him... thats fun to do hi hi hi you can tell when he figures it out and moves :)

Can someone take a peek at their 2004 and tell me how many wires are connected to the back of the mirror? I only have four and there are more pins than that.
