View Full Version : Heated Seats review
Sprocket 02-24-2005, 08:39 AM Howdy,
For those with heated leather seats, are you satisfied with their function?
Mine seem to take a very, very long time to warm up, even on the high setting. After they finally get warm, it's OK.
This fact was brought to mind today as I was driving an 05 BMW 325i which is a loaner for one of my other vehicles while it's getting some warranty work. The seats in this car heat quickly, like RIGHT NOW. Very nice, especially on a day like today.
marinakorp 02-24-2005, 09:42 AM mine get fairly hot pretty fast
2005Accordforme 02-24-2005, 09:57 AM Mine take a while to warm up. In the wretched Malibu I had before my Accord, those seats heated up really fast, but they modulated poorly--meaning hot and cold, hot and cold, never stabilizing.
OwAce 02-24-2005, 10:45 AM about 5 minutes after which i start to think that im on fire. and setting it to low barely reduces the discomfort. it really is a pain in the ass sometimes.
i dont like it,
on low it works fine, on high it gets too hot to handle..oh well..the accords isnt there all the way as yet to luxury status
:blah:
mine heat up rather quickly. i dont need to keep them on once the seat is warm.
stevel 02-24-2005, 04:05 PM I assume that it is in my head, but my seat seems to vary a bit... sometimes it seems to get hot very quickly, sometimes it is barely noticable after driving as much as a half an hour.......
mrjtree 02-25-2005, 04:34 AM On low, they get warm about 5-7 minutes after start up. Like the fact that the seat and lower back warm up and do so evenly.
princess 02-26-2005, 06:25 AM Mine start warming pretty quickly. Start car, leave garage & buns feel warmth as I'm driving down the street. They get hot in about 2 minutes or so.... maybe we should use a watch and time them.... when trying to warm up, cold seems like forever!
In about 6 minutes they feel almost too hot, then they start cycling. (this is on HI) If I resist the temptation to touch the button, they do their cycle thing a little slower than my buns want.
I fell it later, of course, if I'm wearing something thick...like my fleece lined jeans. In church clothes they feel faster & hotter!
The Pilot's seats heat up a little faster, but cycle different. Not as hot. More stable temps.
I'll try to actually use my watch & time them sometime.... you guys do the same.....maybe we can see if they vary of if we just have different expectations.....
princess 03-01-2005, 09:21 AM Here's my results....
In the garage that's sitting in the 50's the seat warmth (in unlined jeans) was starting to be felt at 1 minute 40 sec. At 2 minutes the car's heater started blowing & the seat was feeling cozy. I didn't leave it one until too warm this time. I'll try doing that while actually using the car so I don't get teased any more than I do about dropping the mpg!;)
Sprocket 03-11-2005, 02:56 PM Well today was especially cold, with cold rain. Felt colder than it was because of recent warm days, so it was a good day for the heated seats.
I did not notice the seat being warm at all until after 2 minutes (by Nav trip info). This was on high. Not very impressive.
Accordtx1 03-11-2005, 03:58 PM My drivers seat is about the same as yours.... My passenger seat gets hot in about half of the time of the drivers seat so I have wonder about that one... :)
03 EX-L - The past few months it seems that HI was extremely slow heating up and wasn't as effective as when I first got the car. I couldn't feel it thru my coat and me arse was only luke warm. (heh heh "arse") My dealer just replaced the "heating module" in the seat and it rocks now. Within 2 minutes, HI gets hot and within another 3-4 minutes it gets HOT and then backs off. Within 5 - 10 minutes its back on again.
Interesting note: I've noticed that it cycles more frequently if the the interior temp is lower. I think that it's not just a set on-off timed cycle. I think there's a sensor that varies the cycling based on ambient conditions. If the interior temp is set to 68, it will cycle about every 10 minutes. If the temp is 78, it cycles every 15 - 20 minutes. But if I open the rood and the interior cools down rapidly, within a minute the seat will heat up.
ncelk 03-27-2005, 07:20 AM I notice that it takes a while for mine to heat up. The passenger side seems to heat up much quicker than the driver's side.
They do seem to be a bit "slower" than other cars.
Our 02 TL seemed to heat up a bit quicker.
But hey, how can I complain, our Pilot does not have them at all!
Invero 03-27-2005, 09:51 AM Has anyone had any problems with the heated seats getting stuck ON? I'm not 100% sure, but I think my drivers side might be.
I'll get in my '05 EX-L at midnight, when it's 56 degrees out, and within a minute or two, the back of the seat gets quite hot. It's only the back portion of the seat, and not the bottom part.
Lauren 09-19-2005, 05:37 AM The heated seats on my Honda EX worked well initially then on drivers side stopped working all together, on passengers HI was luke warm and LO was nothing at all. I brought it in for service and they supposedly changed the heating grid, but now HI is just lukewarm. It's really like nothing at all. And they're saying well---it works properly and that's it. Is there a specification somewhere that the seat is supposed to go to a certain degree that I can hold them to? The car is not even a year old.
KJW73 09-19-2005, 05:39 AM They warm up quickly; didn't experience a cold bottom all last winter! :D
piturra 09-19-2005, 08:20 AM For those with heated leather seats, are you satisfied with their function?
Yes, ... including our 2004 Pilot EX-L w/NAV!
This morning (8:15am PT) temp was around 58-degrees and as expected, the leather seats were cold!
Once I turned on my Accord, I press the button to HIGH and felt the seat back and bottom coldness fade away within 30 sec's. After approx. 2-1/2 mins, I pressed the LOW position since the seat was starting to get toasty! I completely turned it OFF after 3-1/2 mins.
FYI: My Accord's heated seats is as efficient as our Pilot!

Sooner in FL 09-19-2005, 06:08 PM My Accord heats quickly on both driver and passenger seat. Both high and low setting work great. However, I do live in Florida and only used it as a test run. My wife use it after she has some ice cream, or the dual climate is cooling me, but I am deflecting the cold air to her.
My MDX is another story. It is very slow, but it could be that it's only a month old and I have not "break in" the leather yet. I can barely tell on the low setting.
thoots 09-19-2005, 06:58 PM Here in rainy Oregon, it's about two minutes on high, and I'm ready to reach for my asbestos underwear. :-)
Yep, two minutes on high to start a butt roast, and then down to low for the rest of the trip, and when I park the car, I do NOT want to get out of that warm, comfy seat!
Wheelie 09-19-2005, 07:03 PM 100 degree's today in Dallas, mine stay hot. wee
