I don't know if it's just me but I think the drive accord banner is really nasty looking. I vote we get a new banner. I made temporary banner we can use for now. If the admin allows it, we can have a banner contest...I really want that banner replaced. I wasn't going to join this forum at first because of how poorly it was designed. It's a shame because this is a wonderful forum. Anyways, Good idea?

A 'new banner' competition sounds cool, though I got no photo-shop skillz... :D

You could have the contest, but if Ward doesn't want to change it then....

This is going to be a case of "if you ask 10 people, you will get 11 opinions".

I'm fine the way it is, not because I don't like changes, but just changing the font or be more like the banner of another forum isn't really a good enough justification IMHO.

The banner is supposed to look like the ACCORD logo.

I like it personally, but then again, I'm no cool 8th gen driver. Hah.

Me and my fondness for the old days... sigh.

I think it would be be cool to have a rotating banner. The same basic layout, but w/ a pic of a forum members car in a block up there. The mod's could choose one. Kind of like a car of the month added to the banner.

For me... it's not only because the banner is not of my taste. It's because it looks unprofessional. You can see pixels of distortion from the low quality. The image they used for the stretched background is supposed to be 1pixel. But instead, it's 4 pixels. This causes the jagged look. The words drive accord doesn't look like it belongs. The whole banner looks like it took 10 minutes to make (no offense to whoever made it). I assume a lot of people would not give this forum a second look because of these reasons. How many times have you guys visited a website and judged it's credibility by it's layout and graphic designs? I've done this many times. So, I believe that a new banner would increase traffic flow and members into this site. I also understand it's not my decision... but I'm hoping to make a change

Once in a while popular forum sites go through changes so that they can refresh the look, add features, spice things up. If I may suggest... since Honda is going "green", perhaps a more "green" theme (and I don't necessarily mean color!) would be nice. For example, some emphasis on the hybrid or hydrogen technology or the super clean diesel that is coming. Perhaps a shift in thinking and direction towards the green-Honda would position the site for better things to come?

(I voted no for the banner, its fine)

A lot of liberties are being taken here. ONE person has the power to change this site but many are making suggestions from changing the logo to how the 8th gen should be handled. That ONE person is also the one that pays the bills to operate this site. I'm not against suggestions at all but it depends on the way a change is suggested. It's real easy for a newb to say "Well it should be this way or that way" when you have not one dollar invested and a whopping 40 posts.

In short say it nicely and it will be considered. Be demanding and your post will be ignored. Some are more concerned with a pixel count than the contents of this excellent forum and its many contributors. Get a life would ya? You can't see the forest for the trees!

I highly doubt the logo will change. I think it is just fine. Lord knows what I would do to someone who came into my house and demanded changes.....

I don't know if your post was directed towards me. If it was, let me defend myself.

I never demanded anything to be changed. I merely made a suggestion. The subject heading is even written as a question. I also wrote that the banner can only be changed with the approval of the administrator in my original post. It is in my opinion that by improving the overall appearance would increase members/contributors to this site. There is a reason why websites like yahoo pay top dollar for their website designers. BTW, I mentioned the information about the pixels because that shows that the administrator isn't Photoshop savy. That is why I wanted to have a contest, so members can help him with the design.

Also, the 8th Generation subcategories actually sounds like a excellent idea. I believe a lot of members agreed with Jamie (even tho his first post was a little too aggressive) when he made that suggestion. The reason why it's such a brilliant idea is because the information we have on the 8th gen Accord is scarce because it just came out. It's hard to find information on them even using Google. ALSO, jamie is more than just a member of this site. He created DIYs and he's even helping someone get lambo doors for free.

I love this forum. I even love the contributors(Thanks for the Wetpaint sticky). In fact, ever since I got my Accord I've been on this forum at least once a day. This is the only reason I'm making suggestions to IMPROVE the site. Sure... We can have the forum stay exactly the way it is. However, since I know I'm going to be a member for a long time to come. I want to see this place grow and improve, instead of being static. I learned that if you want change to happen, you have to start the movement yourself.

Com'on...what was the general purpose of making this forum?
I believe the administrator wanted to create a community where people can enjoy discussing their Accord. The forum is made for the MEMBERS to enjoy themselves. What's the point of a forum if the members are not happy? I know this isn't Burger King. We, as members, can't have everything our way :bawling:. However, I believe it is our RIGHT to make constructive criticism to make the forum better... WHETHER or not a change occurs.

-------
Once again... I am not DEMANDING anything. I'm merely making suggestions... What's so wrong with that?

remix,

It was not directed at you or any individual. Simply a thought that crossed my mind so I put it in print. Some folk's ideas of improvements are a thorn in other people's sides. I'm all for improvement and well worded requests for change. Without those things get stale and spiral downward.

What is alarming me is that many folks have just come aboard and want to change everything and pick the forum to death. The camaraderie and exchange of information here about Accords are THE most important things about this place. I do not want that to be endangered in any way shape or form.

My thoughts are simple.....for those that want to gripe about everything, go start your own damn forum and run it the way you see fit! I'm talking about a few here I have seen that demand things be changed.

Well I tend to stay out of these types of threads but because most of this is directed at me, I'll say a few words.

administrator isn't Photoshop savy
looks like it took 10 minutes to make

You should never address your opinion as fact. Especially when that assumption is based on a single piece of information; in this case one banner. Not only one banner but having not seen the previous 6 years of banners.

Can you create a banner using custom graphics that incorporate the speedometer from a late model Accord and the logo taken from Acura in 10 minutes?

Yes, the fill spacer is to large, but It wasn't important to me to change it. You are the first person to ever mention it.

As for not being Photoshop savy, I will agree I do not have a masters degree in commercial art but I do run a web design company: WardswebLLC.com (http://wardswebllc.com) that pays the bills here and several other sites.

Bottom line, it is just bad manners to come into someone else's home and start bad mouthing the owner on his or her design choices. You have a right to your opinion but not to flame someone you don't even know.

Now having said all that, a banner contest does sound good. You just could have gone about it in a lot better manner.

First... thank you for creating such a wonderful forum community for us...

However, I don't understand how you could take anything I said personally. I made sure everything I said sounded opinionated. From the beginning, I said "I think" or used question marks to emphasize that I'm merely suggesting an idea. I made a poll to see what other people thought. I also wrote that only according to the banner that I've seen, I assumed you were not Photoshop savy. For the 10 minute statement, I was exaggerating of course... though I believe I could make a banner like that . Also... I believe that I shouldn't have to say "I think" for everything I say because that would be redundant

The wrong way I could have approached it was to say something like:
"The banner is disgusting and no members would want to see that. We HAVE TO change the banner. Was the administrator on crack when he designed it? I could have made a better one on MS paint. We must have a banner designing contest and force the administrator to change it.."

You could have rushed the banner... which meant you didn't have time or you weren't photoshop savy. Either way... a banner design contest seemed good idea for members to help out for free.

Anyways, since you approved of the contest ,
What size in pixels do you want the banner to be? What color? Any specifications?

P.S. It's kind of awesome you used you 1000th post in my thread =D
