I finally got the switcher installed from AVelectronics.

I got the video player and headrests from www.mobilevideo4less.com. The Drive entertainment DVD player was defective and they were totally useless and had very poor customer service.

After mv4less sent me another companies DVD player (with TV tuner) I got this done.

I removed that large pocket below the nav and put the dvd player there with room for another little cubbie hole.

Here are a couple of photos:

Great job!

I'd really miss the cubby though!:( I don't really use it for DC's, they're too noisy. I do keep the insurance cards, tissue, & other quiet stuff in there though... things that seem to far away or too hidden if I need them in a glove box. (It has the manuals, umbrella, gloves, other stuff in it....) The center ones are nearly useless for me since the seats up far enough when I'm driving that it's almost backwards to use it!:)

So do you get many channels? Looks like you're pulling in TV. Did you need to add an antenna? If so, where'd you put it? Does the sound "dim" for the Nav?

Why are the temps set for 58??? ;) :D

I put a clear window patch antenna on the passenger side in the area that has the tint... on the top of the windshield. You cannot see it from outside.

I ran the wire along the pillar under the dash to the center.

I seem to get all the channels available here.

I havent tried the nav with it yet, but since Im using an FM modulator and listening to the sound via the FM stereo, I would assume that it would dim for the navi.

And that temperature setting was because I wanted the A/C on full and it was just easy to lower the temp than switch to manual.

I wanted to know if you used the antenna that came with the avelectronic kit or did you purchase it seperately?

I used a different one. We dont have alot of buildings in the way of the TV signal here, I used a window patch antenna that I put on the front windshield where the tiniting is at the top...... You cannot see it from the outside.

hey isnt it illegal to have tv running in the front seat while the car is moving?

:blah: :paranoid:

my roommate wanted to have an internet hookup so that he could play poker while driving to work.

:dunno:

Yes, that is one of our traffic laws.

However it comes with a wire that goes to the emergency brake. It will only operate with the emergency brake on.

Great job!

I did something similar in mine, and it's a bit different but the same end result. I am thinking about changing the DVD player because it doesn't light up at night.

Mine is wired to the parking brake but through a relay because I've had problems with the AVElectronic unit activating the parking brake signal and the car ends up thinking the brake was on. I also used the remote wire from the DVD player so that when the brake is up, it switches the nav screen to DVD/TV. I also have the manual switch so I can switch it to NAV when I'm stationary.

I had a blitzsafe adapter and the sound through it was awesome. The only problem was that it disabled my XM so now I am back to using an FM modulator. It sounds like crap compared to the blitzsafe but works with my XM.

Do you have a part number for the kit that replaces the compartment to hold an aftermarket deck? And does the plastic match the rest of the dash well? It looks like it does but is hard to tell in the pictures.

Thanks,

Eric

You can buy two types of kits.

One of them is aftermarket, and DIN size so it fits the DVD player exactly. This is the one billinaz has. However, the lower pocket is small.

You can also buy an OEM Honda part, called an attach kit (handaaccessories.com and other places have it) which is designed for their dealer installed DVD player and other accessories. The pocket is bigger, but the radio opening isn't exactly DIN size. I use that, and filled the edges with ABS plastic so it doesn't look bad at all.

Both of them are black so they look well with any interior.

I actually bought both the Honda kit and the Metra kit.

I had trouble getting the Honda kit to work because its a little off size and I did not want to mess with alterations (anyone wanna buy it?) I used the metra one, the color was right, and it was not too expensive. the best part is that it fit the DVD player great.

I dont use that pocket below it for much, so I dont miss that big one that I replaced.

You want the Metra 99-7862.

Search the web, its about 40 bucks.

I also got the tools to remove the trim pieces, and it made it much easier to get the job done.

It looks like this:

I'd like to see a photo of that!

I'll take a pic of it and post it.

How do you get the DVD player to stay with the metra kit? The kit I bought didn't have the side rails.

Those side rails were the key. They had holes that lined up with the scerw holes on the side of the radio. Then the radio just clicked into the other part of the kit.

I ran an 18 gauge wire through the firewall (through a grommet that was already there) and put a 15 amp inline fuse on it, then attached that to the battery. Probably added an unnecessary fuse, but it made me feel better.

I put the switch for the AVE unit in my glovebox... I drilled a hole in the inside plastic part of the box....
