on my trip to Charleston and Beaufort, SC, managed to get 31.14MPG. conditions include almost all highway driving, 50/50 on cruise control, 60-80MPH, NOT gentle on the pedal, and "raced" up the mountains on the way to SC!
to say the least, i was impressed by the car's performance -- with the sorry mileage i've been getting driving around chicago. the engine sounded sweet whenever i pushed it and acceleration at 60MPH was still easy enough. the seats were marvelous as i could still feel my behind after 7 hours behind the wheel and yet, i didn't "sink" into it.
it seemed a bit sluggish when i wanted to pass above 70MPH; it also refused to downshift quickly enough except when i stomped on the gas. road noise was evident -- more on some road surfaces than others. wind noise was also noticeable but not "driving me crazy" loud. for all the reviews on mediocre grip and handling in wet road conditions, the car felt planted and responsive as i drove through several strong downpours in IN, TN, KY, and NC -- some of it in winding mountain roads with about 1-2 inches of water on the road.
AC was strong enough to keep the car cool but having tints may have helped on this.
i did notice headlight flicker several times but not so much as to distract me from driving. i'm hoping that this'd become less noticeable once i change my batteries, though.
all in all, i'm very satisfied with how "bruno" performed. i just hope i can keep the MPGs up even in the city but i think it's a long shot.
