Drive Accord Header Art Contest

It has been suggested it is time for some new art work to grace the top of our forums. So to that end, I'm having an open call for all you artists, novice and professional alike, to submit your entry.

You don't have to build to the exact dimensions of the present header art but try and keep it close, as we don't want a huge piece to dominate the site. You may use a flat file, an animated gif or even flash. Remember it will need to scale or layer to fill the top of the screen for different screen resolutions. Keep the colors within the pallet of the forums, but you may add some accent color(s) as long as it doesn't seem out of place.

A question for members:

Does an image 1024 wide work for you? It would mean anyone viewing in a screen resolution smaller than 1024 wide would have to scroll to see all the image.

I'd drop the H - not only to make it a bit smaller but legally can we use the "H" logo? The site banner doesn't have it now, its understood its a Honda site :P and the logo is clear on the grills of the car anyway.

Only other suggestion is maybe next to the 7th gen, add a smaller pic of a 6th gen, next to that a slightly smaller pic of a 5th gen . . . It would incorporate more gens with the most current (and most popular on the board) standing out more.

To make things a little more interesting, Driveaccord is giving the winner of the logo banner contest a new HID kit. I will be rotating entries at the top of the page so members can get an idea of what these look like on the live site.

So, any thoughts on the new logo and artwork that now adorns our site? Keep it? Go back to the old one? Keep trying? You get to make that choice.

I like it a lot. I'm not sure if there was a lack of interest per se, maybe just not enough members with the know-how to design something like that. I think it looks fresh, and goes well with the colors of the site.

I'm not the most photo-shop/web-graphics savvy, hence my hesitancy to submit anything. I will try to come up w/ something ASAP, that will be a hallmark to the USDM Honda Accord! Hopefully, it'll be somewhat acceptable to the masses! :D

If we cannot use the "H" emblem itself, because of copyright issues, I think the round Accord speedometer (or the 7th / 8th gen headlight detail) is a evolutionary alternative if it is used again in the left corner.

i honestly wanted to do that.. but i couldnt find any good pictures of older gens like the pictures of the 7th and the 8th... couldnt find that angle of the car, or silver, or professional pics.... if someone has good pics of older gens, post them here! cuz id gladly add them to the logo !!

I dunno, it looks good, but i still don't like that I have over two inches on each side of the banner as "gray" area. My work computer isn't as pronounced as my laptop as my laptop is a 17inch widescreen.

It doesn't really matter to me, but something should be done about the gray showing on the sides.

It looks a lot better than the previous one. But its a little bit too wide for my notebook's 1024 x 768 screen resolution, so now I get a horizontal scroll bar in the bottom which I didn't get with the old banner. And I don't get that horizontal scroll bar in other web pages either, so I guess the banner must be wider than the standard size :dunno:

But still, IMO it looks a lot better than the old one. :thmsup:

Heres mine ill make more tomorrow. I used the same font for the official HONDA logo for the word DRIVE, the background is a carbon fiber overlay to give it some texture. I hope you guys like it. I like clean simple designs. If you guys have any suggestions feel free to PM me and ill do it.

I like the one 05hansaccord posted. I think that while Accords are all over the world, a vast majority of members are in North America. I would only suggest it use a USDM Accord. The one pictured kinda reminded me of a Civic. I still really like the design of the banner he posted.

I like the idea but like stiller fan said you should include the US 7th generation Accord. Also, I think it would look better if all the cars were facing in the same direction.

Well, the TSX in the U.S. is the Accord in Europe ... but ....

Are you saying that there's a specific feature you noticed in that column strip that shows it's the TSX rather than the European 7th gen Accord?

The pic in the banner is an '06 or '07 Acura TSX.

Well, you're right. It's the European Accord but I guess what I'm trying to say is that a majority of the users here is located in the US, I think the USDM Accord would be better represented in the banner rather than the Acura TSX.

They have all been excellent, but as Bill pointed out the Gen 7 is a TSX. Sure it is the Japanese domestic market Accord, and nice as it is I do not drive a TSX, just a plain old '06 EX-L (but it does have TSX rims... am I conflicted or what?). Please replace the photo with a "real" Gen 7 Accord, there certainly are enough excellent examples owned by members of this forum. Heck, why not insert Bill's avatar- it's a great shot of the real thing!

I think that only US market Accords should be used in the banner art. Therefore replacing the 7th and 8th gen pics in the banner above. Sure the Japanese and European Accords might look nicer but it's a bit misleading and kind of ignores all the the proud owners of 7th and 8th gen North American Accords.

yea i was planning to make an animated one but you have to understand that everytime someone refreshes the page the animation would restart that is just the nature of it. If that is fine with webmaster then ill go ahead and start making animated ones

I am actually not seeing any banner at all right now.

I vote against anything that will cause the page to load slower than before. Let's remember that some members (not me) can only view this site with 56k, so loading bloated mandatory pictures/animations would not be a great idea.

My design. I understand many users are not driving the latest gen accord (including me), but technology advances forward and eventually you'll end up with a accord newer than your current one :P

I designed this logo to communicate the idea that this forum is everything about accord. I have two versions, one with lower saturation, and one with normal saturation.

The color can be changed to blue to match the forum... the side gradient can also be stretched out to fit your resolution. I have a 24 inch monitor, so most of the banners here look too small for me. They're not wide enough. I like TJ1816's simple design though.

i really liked the previous banner that was submitted before, with the previous generatons of accords.

however, this one looks so much better. much more of a modern appearance (not taking anything away from the last one).

IMHO, this seems like a better design / overall improvement of the original idea. kudos.... :notworthy :drink:
