Just had one put in. I didn't know Honda was in the battery business. (Or in the battery re-labeling business. Interstate makes it - is that right?)
It is a 100mth battery. I didn't know they went beyond 7yrs. And I'm not sure I'll have this car in 8.33yrs.
It was $113.08. $81.00 ($86.00 - $5.00 for the core) for the battery + 22.50 for labor + 9.58 tax. That isn't bad at all. Especially because of the fact I was in a pinch and the dealer was kind enough to take care of it right away. IMHO the price for that level of battery is fair as is the labor involved. And I can't complain; the OEM battery hung in there for about 5 1/2yrs.

Had the same one put in by my dealer last month - $95 out the door!
I think the 100-month warranty is new. My dealer still had big ads for the 60-month batteries on his walls....

That's my understanding too. The Service Manager I spoke with made it sound like all Honda dealers will use it.

According to http://www.uuhome.de/william.darden/batbrand.htm, Honda batteries are made by Chloride Batteries SE Asia CBSEA, (Singapore).
As an alternative, I have had good experience with Diehard batteries.

Thanks for the info!
When I asked the parts guy, he told me Interstate was the manufacturer...but he didn't offer the statement with much authority.
Heck, he was probably saying anything to make me go away.
Me: So, who makes the battery?
Him: What? Ah...Duracell does.
Me: They do?
Him: Ya, sure. It's a 9 volt and it plugs right into the engine.
Me: Really?
Him: Yes, now go away.

Some of those parts people have no clue on customer service. Sounds like the guy's brain was on the interstate. Fortunately, most of them don't stay in business very long.

My original lasted about 3 years. At that time, I was at ~100K so I guess the charge/discharge cycles accellerated it's death early.
I had one early warning of it's demise, so I bought a $40 Walmart battery and kept it in my trunk as I was going out of town. About 2 weeks later it died, fortunately while in my garage.
I've been running this replacement for about 2 years with no problems to date, but I think it's only a 3 year battery. I've been pretty good about keeping the cells filled with distilled water, but you never know about these things.
BTW, my original (Panasonic) also allowed the caps to be removed and to fill the cells. Is the replacement from the dealer a sealed maintenance free battery?

I recently installed a WalMart Everstart into my '96. Total cost: $40. 2 year free replacment and total warranty of 84 months. Only time will tell if it was a false economy.:blah:
