1) How do I reset the maintenance minder light on the dash?
2) Which weight for oil for the V6? is it the same as 5W20 for the 4cyl that I see on this board?
3) Don't suggest that I read the manual... If everyone read the owner's manual, we wouldn't need this thing called the Internet, now would we?? :lmao:

READ THE MANUAL!
lol jk 5w20 is for the v6, it says on the cap of the engine too, when you see the % of oil, hold down the little button for about 30 seconds, and i think it will reset, like reseting the miles on Trip A/B, if your bringing the car into the dealership, they will do it for you :)

There are reports online that say the Fram products are not very good. I've seen good results from the Walmart filter, Purolator, Mobil 1, and many others.

I don't like Fram myself. The factory are Fram??

I just changed mine. It's a Filtech from the factory. I put on a Wix (NAPA Gold).

Mobil 1 oil and oil filters for the win. That's what I've been using.

I always use OEM oil filters myself. They're one of those simple yet complicated parts I rather not mess with. I say complicated because we just don't know if they're straining the oil pump (in case of those that filter too good), or bypassing the filter all together (bypass valve) when we don't want to.
Having said that, I don't think an aftermarket filter would be a problem in a warranty claim, and that's not the reason I pass them up, but a different pressure relief valve value could certainly be a valid reason. What it is? Who knows. Not worth the risk when they practically cost the same. And since I change the oil every 5K miles, no need for an OEM alternative. Good day.

Certainly a valid point, one in which I normally subscribe to myself. Even "name brand" aftermarket parts can cause problems. I think I'll just make this easy on myself and pick up the filter from the dealer. Thanks y'all!

I just buy a case of OEM filters and that drops the cost... then again, I own a repair shop so I get them at cost...

We have a few other name brand filters like Wix, but I still prefer OEM... Change every 3000 miles...

Done! man, talk about a pleasant experience! This is hands down the best location for an oil filter that I have ever dealt with. other cars either require you to be a contortionist to be able to get the damn thing off or they're on top and easy to get to but let oil pour out all over the engine (Toyota Camry). My only complaint is the $10 OEM filter!

:lmao: Just changed to M1 after having used Fram Extended Guard (with some 7500 guarantee) and can't be more satisfied. Prior to the Fram Extended guard, I used the Walmart one and this M1 has been the best so far. Real stingy when it comes to FE too. Which reminds me to swap out the air filter. Boy the Wix I got in there is really good but I wonder if it's dirty. I wasn't aware K&N made such stellar oil filters!

Ok, I have done a lot of research on OIL and FILTERS and this is what I came up with:

There is no need to change your oil every 3K miles.
You should change your oil every around 5K or 6K mile, but it depends how the weather where you live.
ALL oils are the same believe it or not. I mean ALL regular oils are the same and ALL Synthetic oils are the same.
Trust me I have seen a lot of LAB reports and they came up with "THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE AND CHANGE YOUR OIL EVERY 6K to 7K MILE ON REGULAR OIL UNLESS YOU DRIVE A TAXI IN NEW YORK OR ALASKA."

EVERY 6K to 7K MILE

That's false, you should go by what your MMS tells you. Which for me is 5-6k but I'm good with all your other points. Unless you have MMS, your oil should be good for atleast 6k miles if you don't beat on your car. And by that I mean basically a taxi driver.

If this M1 filter wasn't so good, I actually be curious about the K&N filter but it's a slippery slope when you do these things.

no worries i think the m1 is synthetic too .quote from web site ;

Myth: Mobil 1 and Mobil 1 Extended Performance require a special oil filter.
Reality:

While ExxonMobil recommends that you use a high-quality filter, you can use the same type of oil filter that you would normally use with conventional oil. ExxonMobil does offer a very high-quality oil filter that is a perfect companion to Mobil 1. The Mobil 1 Extended Performance Oil Filter contains synthetic blend filter media instead of the typical cellulose filter media. With a 99.2 percent efficiency rating (under SAE J1858 Multi-Pass Efficiency Test), the Mobil 1 filter is much more efficient than a typical oil filter. Its new high-capacity design stores more contaminants (two times the capacity of the leading brand).

What about the regular M1 filter? Does is not have the same efficiency or how much less is it if it's not a quantum change?

So we change the oil according to MMS? And how often do we change the oil filter then?

Digger13

Every other oil change according to the owners manual. I prefer to change it everytime, the OEM filter is just 6 bucks here at the dealership so no point in not changing it, cheap insurance....

synthetic filter probably isn't going to matter much till later in the life of the car . on older cars i like to skip the filter change . i do it every other oil change . when i use a synthetic filter
