Can anyone point me in the right direction to install the homelink transmitter in a car that did not have one. I have the I4 navi and have moved to where I need a transmitter to enter my apartment complex and the one that they give us is downright ugly.... Princess could you possibly get a part number for me I can figure if it is worth the install. sorry if this is in the wrong place or if this has been discussed before....

I don't think it can be purchased new all together!
Your other choices are, ask the dealer if THEY can purchase it for you? (sometimes things come as a kit for them) then buy the parts that aren't with it.
See if one has been wrecked from a junk yard.... :dunno:
Don't just CALL a dealer, Go to one! They seem to treat people more human that way. It's easy to blow off a voice on a phone!

thanks.... I did a ebay search and will have it email me when it finds one. I think that I found some conversation in another thread and if all else fails I can go to the dealer and order the whole module but at $ 2XX.XX that will definitely have to wait.

I can do those for 161.88 shipped :)
I thought of getting one for my accord, but after using the homelink that was on my 05 odyssey, I dropped that idea. These buttons are not illuminated and so finding the correct button in the dark was difficult. I just leave my old garage opener (size of a matchbox) in the cavity by the window switches and this old opener was faster than the homelink on my odyssey.
It is just my opinion.
But homelink on the console is always cool.

Woa! That's quite a savings with shipping!
I LOVE the homelink in our Hondas! We have them set up the same, left is the garage door, middle is disarm the house alarm, right is arm the house.... we did that order just in case we pushed a wrong button.... we wouldn't want to accidently arm the house!
After a short time we can do it without even looking, but it does have that little ambient light to help. I like not dealing with the remote, one kind was making ugly creases on the sunvisor, the other was rattling in the cup holder, tray or cubby.... We did have buy a thing that made it all work with the house alarm from ITT people. Our alarm is a Simon, I think... (older ADT)

I tied to get the middle button to disarm my house alarm, but it would not work. Must be something with the encoding of the DSC module ...

Did you check out the Homelink (http://www.homelink.com/home/faq.tml) site?

For the original request, we discussed this in great detail before. Going on memory: I think you're going to have to get the Homelink for an "EX V6", then you might have to take it and yours apart, because I believe someone said the NAVI has the microphone built in, and the EX V6 does not. So, you'll have to take both, and make one with a mic, and Homelink. I had it apart, it would be easy to do, it all unclips apart.
I agree about the earlier comment on the lack of backlighting, which is why I chose to backlight mine, similar to what I did in our 03 Odyssey here. (http://www.odyclub.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14576) It lights the transmitter LED dimly when the headlights are on, then you can home right in on the middle button in total darkness.
I ended up scoring my Homelink on eBay for $122.50, still not cheap, but a decent deal....my wife wanted it.

I just did.
Figures, the system I have is 433 Mhz, the Homelink does not go that high.........

I agree about not seeing the buttons, so I added a small LED and 680 ohm resistor right by the existing transmitter LED. It lights up when the parking lights are on, and give you something to aim at when trying to hit the buttons. Did the same thing with our 03 Odyssey. see it here (http://www.odyclub.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14576)
I also lucked out and won a Homelink for $122 on ebay.
Since you have Navi, you'll have to move your mic over to the new unit, and add the necessary wires. Should be easy.

so does it fit with the same wiring as the ambient light?

the Homelink? it plugs into an existing harness, not sure if its shared with the ambient light, but it could be.

Adding the Homelink is plug and play, the wiring is already there. The only time you'd need to mess around, is if you have the Navi, you'd have to move your mic and wiring over to the homelink module.

I have a 2004 Accord LX that was stolen but thankfully recovered. Unfortunately, my garage door opener is gone and I want to add homelink.
From the information I have seen online the console is only for the EX model. I'm worried that it won't work in my LX (though it seems like it should).
Does anyone have any comments or suggestions? Since I don't have any navigation system to deal with I assume that it would be "plug and play" but I want to confirm that before I buy the console.
Thank you!

For those of you without a autodimming rearview mirror why not get the Gentex auto dimming mirror with three Homelink buttons built in. Delivered to my door it was $182.00. Killed two birds with one stone.

I considered that but I don't really want the dimming miror and have seen used consoles on ebay pretty cheaper.

I tried to order this part from the Honda dealer and they said it was a controlled part. If you want to order it they want you cars VIN and if it doesn't match as originally having the homelink module from the factory they can't order it or sell it to you.

See my post in the 7th generation section. I ordered the TSX part and it was plug and play.
