Hi Guys, just registered as after a long weekend of looking at cars I think I'm going to buy an BBP 08 Coupe EX-L V6 w/6spd today. I'm pretty excited.

I'm a little concerned over my price and if I could do better. I'm going to get 1.9% for 36months. I've got the dealer down to 26,163 (invoice with destination charges) plus tax, title, fees, etc.

Does this sound like a good deal or can I do better on an 08? I want to buy this week because of the financing. His dealer fees are also a little high - the doc fee is 350 and the MVC fee is 250... don't these sound high?

Please let me know what you think based on your buying experience on if I should move on this or keep looking. Thanks/

Throwdown,

I just purchased a 2008 BBP EX-L Coupe (no nav) 5-spd auto 9 days ago. I paid $25,426 including destination charge (so about $886 below invoice). Here's the breakdown of my fees:

Price = $25,426
Tax = $1589.13 (6.25%)
Dealer Inventory Tax = $55.00
Doc Fee = $50.00
Title/License = $134.00

The doc fee is definitely too high! I'm not sure what is included in that fee but even if Title/License are, it's till way too high. What is MCV? Is Title/License included in either of those fees? Let me know.

Keep in mind that the resale value of manual trannys is lower and thus, the dealer should be dealing more with the manual trannys than the autos as those tend to sit on the lots much longer...same goes with the Infiniti G35s...my dealer doesn't even order them unless a customer does because the last one they had on their lot sat for over 6 months before they finally got rid of it.

P.S. I just had an aftermarket unit installed (Kenwood 8120 with a bunch of stuff...awesome unit...paid same price I would have paid for factory Nav ONLY way better!) BBP is a gorgeous color!! Great car :)

Later,
Jason

Thanks for the responses...now I'm starting to wonder if I really should keep looking and can do better.

The fees are definitely high - the MVC charges are motor vehicles, i'm assuming thats the plates and all that.

In originally making offers the guys starting ridiculously high obviously, I laughed at the original offer (like 500 off MSRP) and when he sked what I was thinking I said 25k. He said that was way too low and he could never do that but probably could do 500 above invoice of 26163. I told him how this was high for an 08 (because I even drove an 09) but he spoke a little about it being rare with the 6spd. (I know it's a Honda) - so later that night I asked if he could do invoice and he called me back with a yes... I haven't signed anything tho and not sure if I should back out.

Don't get suckered by the financing. Make sure you are approved for it. in fact, make sure you get approved from a third party bank at a apr that's as low as possible.

Don't become a victim of the "spot delivery scam". They promise you a certain apr, and after you take the car home, they say the loan got denied but then give you the "good news" that they got you a loan for a much higher apr.

If you wanna know what kind of scams dealerships across the country are running before you go to the dealership...

If you already knew all of that stuff nevermind, im just a little disgruntled... :furious:

Oh yeah, make sure you read and understand everything on the papers they make you sign. When I bought my car I paid like $1500 extra for no other reason than the finance manager jacking up the price without me noticing.

Throwdown,

Ok, MVC is your title/license...I'm not sure where you are located but you can check the fees online in your state. For example, in TX, the registration and title are fees that can't be changed so it's public information so look those up...I can't see your title/license fees being $250 but I could be wrong. Either way, the doc fee is a joke...$350?? LOL Doc fees at ANY dealership should NEVER be more than $50. I have never paid more than $50 and I've bought cars in Colorado, California, Massachusetts and Texas.

Invoice isn't usually a bad price but they're overcharging you at a minimum of $300 on dealer doc fees and you need to check on the MVC fees. It's a manual tranny and yes they are rare in the sense that there are less of them out there but think about it...it's 2008...almost September...09s are rolling on the lots...he's had that car for a WHILE! Manual tranny's go for much better deals because they're harder to sell because the market of people who want manuals is much smaller. Paying invoice for that particular car is too much! If your MVC fee is correct after you check your state's title and license registration fees, then get the dealer down to $50 on the doc fee and at least 300-500 below invoice or walk away unless you want to pay more than you should for that manual tranny car.

I agree with the other poster...watch the financing gig...I've only ever had one dealer when I was younger try that crap. I'm 30 now but when I was 22, I took possession of a car on the promise of getting the low rate (my credit was great) and then they called me two days later saying that they couldn't get me financed at that rate (it was about 5.5% back in 2001) but that they got me financed at 9.9%...I laughed and brought the car back right away...went to a different dealer that same day and had no problem getting financed for the low rate. They basically tried to steal money on the financing terms. I also have gone through a dealer (my first new car) that may have "innocently" bumped the price of the car up on the paperwork in the finance manager's office but I caught it and they fixed it right away. Good luck!

I was never into buying cars over the internet until I got this deal. But this is the deal I got for my car. Just add a $100 because the Sales Rep made a mistake and quoted me for a Sedan, so my car was actually $23899 on 2.9% Financing.

Now since I didn't believe this price quote when I first got it, I made the mistake of actually visiting another Dealership and they tried to sell me the same car for $31K ( $31K for I4 w/o Navi SAME EXACT CAR). At that point I drove me ass directly to the dealer/Sales Rep who quoted the above and bought my car in less than 40 mins and that car was right off the truck and was delivered to me with only 4 miles on it.

2008 Honda Accord Exl Auto Sedan
(polished metal in stock)
MSRP $26495
INVOICE $24297.26
INTERNET PRICE $23799*
(This quote includes $635 destination charge)

I don't think you'll do much better than invoice on a 6-sp, but you need to add any non-TTL fee to the price, so you're over $300 right now. Also find out how many miles on the car. If it doesn't have less than 5, somebody drove it already. I don't like any miles on my manual cars for obvious reasons, but I ended up buying mine with 6 test-driven miles, which is reasonable.

I also wonder what 'MVC' is; can't be TTL because tax alone is in the 4-figure range. Shop around and make a decision. Good luck.

So I'll admit I'm not into this whole "get it for the lowest possible price you can, and if it's even $100 off find another one" mentality. I've bought over 20 new cars over the years, and it really boils down to availability, closeness to price sensitivity, and long-term dealer relationship. Many take the approach that you buy for as low as you can, regardless of where, and then worry about service later. There's an intangible about buying at a respectable price point from a dealer that you'll be using long term - you can get things like preffered appointments, more flexibility with things like loaners, and even free stuff down the road like rotations, etc. I always give my local dealer a shot at the price, and if it's within a few hundred bucks, I go with that dealer since (a) we'll likely do car business in the future, and (b) it's where I'll go for both warranty and periodic non-warranty work.

From what you've said, for a 6-speed coupe, it's a price within only a few hundred of what you MIGHT get down to, assuming you can find another car at another dealer. And unless you're gonna turn it around in a year, the fact that it's an 08 or an 09 isn't really a big deal, since the cars won't change - and Hondas don't depreciate that much anyway. If you've driven the car - it looks good/clean/new/acceptable - they have it in stock - and the dealer will be someone you'll work with down the road - then do it and don't look back...

Just my "old guy" opinion....

I don't even know if I paid a good price for my car but i got it for 31,000 w/ TTL, docs, etc...
Here is what the honda website gave me for the exact same things I have. Anyway, if you have money who cares if its +-1000 in financing.

I guess it depends on the area. That would be a very good deal in my area for a V6 6-Speed. I've found that dealers on get 1 or 2 at a time and are reluctant to discount them. The Autos, 4CYLs, and Sedans will sell for $500-$1000 below invoice but not the V6MTs.

Yah you should get it if you really want it, not a bad price at all. Here in Las Vegas at all 4 Honda dealerships the 08 Accord coupe V6 wasn't hardly going below MSRP at all...maybe if you were lucky you got it for like $900 over invoice. I ended up with my 08 Accord coupe but got a much better deal for it at $200 under invoice. If you do wait for the 09 the other poster is right, it will automatically cost you $500 more plus there is no major difference internal/external between the 08 and 09 models.

I agree with everybody, get it if you really like the car! I think that the deal you have is really good and if you walk away or think about it, it might not be there when you go back.
