Hi,
How often should one use a fuel system cleaner. Has anybody noticed noticable changes in fuel economy, engine performance after using one.

I have a 98 Accord LX ...What is the required quantity I need to use.

Thx

I normally buy one of the fuel additive cleaners about once every year or year and a half. Doing that often I normally don't notice much of a difference, however the first time I did it to my old 95 Accord -- in 2001 probably I noticed a hike in gas milage and thought I saw some performance enhancement but then I hoping for that so maybe my mind fabricated it a bit. I'd say its worth giving it a try for the $4.00 or whatever it costs...I prefer a product named Gumont (or something like that) and normally get it at Advance Autoparts or Autozone or something.

Some people use Techron, more expensive than Gumout but reportedly more effective. I've used BG 44K; it's $20 per can. I put it in my 1995 Chevy S-10 pickup at 140k miles and it really worked. At first the engine started acting up as the crud was loosened up, but it smoothed out by the time I used up all of the treated fuel in the tank. I then changed the fuel filter.
