View Full Version : Buyer's Market
Bowzer 09-02-2008, 11:21 AM From the figures listed here, I'd call it a favorable buyer's market these days. Factor in that these are average incentive amounts for all vehicles and knowing that small cars are selling close to MSRP, the larger vehicles are getting price cuts yet unseen. These are the kind of times you save for...

ZedsDead 09-02-2008, 11:38 AM Indeed.
In January, my wife and I purchased 2, 2008 Accords (sedan and couple). We have found that the Sedan is (awesome but...) not enough for our family of 5.
We recently purchased a 2009 Honda Pilot LX for $5600 off sticker. This represents all factory incentives and dealer discounts + taxes and tags.
In any case, we are VERY pleased with the Pilot and it IS a great time to buy.
stevencrosbie 09-02-2008, 11:40 AM I wish I would have waited to buy the truck. I could buy a sweet Cummins Diesel or a Duramax for just a bit more than I paid for my Tundra.
Oh well. Now is the time to get that slightly used truck if you need one. I will venture to bet once the market stabilizes, the market for good pickups will recover once all of the soccor mom's/dads get back into more practicle vehicles for their daily driving. (A Ford F-350 Powerstroke is probably not necessary to take the kids to school....even if it is super cool).

The Dodge dealer has signs in all his large pickups that say: "$14,000 Below Invoice"...........:notworthy:notworthy
Bowzer 09-02-2008, 12:04 PM Those kind of discounts, even if some are a bit of hype, cover a lot of difference in gas costs over say a 2-4 year period. Assuming gas holds relatively "stable" in the $3-4/gallon range, you could buy a larger vehicle with the incentives and come out even if not ahead. Or, driving lightly/low mileage you'd be in great shape. Wish I had the funds for a new pickup laying around. Would be a great time to pick up a nice one as a supporting vehicle.
EDIT: I don't dare look too closely at the Toyota dealership down my street. Those new Sequoia's keep eyeing me down!
stevencrosbie 09-02-2008, 12:25 PM You know you want that 5.7 :D
Once you go torque....you'll never go back :D

:lmao:
Makes me think of those days when I had the 5.2 L V8 in that lil ole Grand Cherokee. Even though it was heavy with all the 4x4 gear, that smallish frame would outright run. Offroad, you just powered your way out if you got too sloppy in finesse. The motor eventually lifted itself off its engine mounts from the torque...quality Chrysler engineering at work. But boy that thing was fun in its day. Lots of tracks left on mountain roads in NC down to beach runs in Galveston.
Looked judt like this:
Crap...I'm going to have to take the back way home AWAY from the dealership now.
stevencrosbie 09-02-2008, 12:47 PM Go look at the Toyota :) That 5.7 is calling you name in a about 401 different ways. Just think of all the things you could tow with the 10,000# capacity :D
Of course...you could just get a Cremax Tundra like me and save a bunch more money as it is almost the same thing.
You know you wanna

For a short time, they had a 5.9 HO with a hood scoop you could get as an option for the Jeep Grand Cherokee..........:notworthy
Bowzer 09-02-2008, 01:23 PM Well you guys are not helping the future college tuition levels at all!
Prince gave me too good of report to let go of the Accord and the long commute is the big saving grace for it. But...I'll probably go drive a Sequoia or Tundra this next week or so...in the name of staying informed of best options of course! (To be realistic, I'd have to find a job without this commute...or if someone knows of a $1+/mile paying gig...)

You know that thing would actually spin all 4 wheels at once from a standing start? Monster little SUV...all American & over the top setup but sure was cool.
cajun 09-02-2008, 05:14 PM The local Nissan dealership has been advertising new Titan double cabs for $17k. That's getting close to Sentra prices.

Wow. Man, remember the days when the pickups were all to the side at dealerships and the pricing was always just over basic small cars? Course, that's when they were used as trucks.
accordexlv6 09-03-2008, 10:36 AM When we went shopping the last few months, the dealers were unbelievably desperate... every one of them (Honda, BMW, Merc, Subaru, Toyota).
We got our 2009 Murano LE AWD w/ Nav/Tech package and Dual panel power roof with some small accessories (mats, mudguards) MSRP of $40,000 plus change for $33,000 plus tax and tags. No dealer fee.
Nissan also had a lease deal (while most others won't even lease anymore) that we took advantage of through our own consulting firm (tax benefits).
$399 mo.
39 months/15000 mi./yr.
Free maintenance through the dealer for first 36 months.
Sign and Drive. No money down.
We got everything we wanted.:)
stevencrosbie 09-03-2008, 11:00 AM I know it is a bit early, but do you plan on buying out the lease at the end of the term or just finding a new vehicle at that point?
I really do like the new Murano. Any chance we can scam some pictures off of you?

I had one as a demo............
People always wanted to race me........:lmao:
Of course, back in 92, I had a GMC Syclone as a demo, NEVER lost a race in that...........:notworthy:notworthy

I always wanted one for a day to just stomp on the gas on a steep sandy hill...

I dunno. At this point, probably not. Just turn it back in. I don't plan to do anything with the car at all... no mods (don't need any)... just drive it.
It's my first lease, so I really feel like we're renting it.
As far as pics... I took a few with my camera phone the day after I picked it up. Quality is probably less than ideal. I may put up a couple. Again, I may not simply because it will just attract a bunch of jerkoffs that have nothing nice or constructive to say.
Post up pics of your new Tundra, Hyundai, VW, Subaru, Chevy or some 'ol junky, abused Honda and the "you done good" comments come rushin' in. OTOH, say you bought a Nissan and every hater that gets their cookies off perpetuating lies and half-truths come out of the woodwork. I don't have the time or interest in defending my decision.
There is no doubt many of the old guard on here are moving on from Honda while the noobies are out to tear down anyone that disagrees with the Honda Kool-Aid.
I don't live my life through paradigms.:)

Understandable. Either way, that is a super nice ride. Someday I will actually get a ride in one. I haven't been in a new Nissan product accept for the new G35 Sedan and.....I had to clamp my wallet closed to make sure i didn't buy anything :)
KP Texan 09-03-2008, 03:23 PM Well if it means anything, I like your Murano! I've always been a Nissan fan since my first car was a 1992 240SX. That Nissan VQ engine is a force to be reckoned with too! I was so close to buying an '04 G35 sedan but some things didn't look right on the Carfax and I passed. I'm really glad I got the Accord though and it's definitely the right car for me right now just as the Murano is the right car for you.

The Syclone was stupidly fast. 0-60 in 6.3 seconds in 1992 wasn't bad for a stock vehicle.......
I had the chance to buy one a couple months ago but it was beat to hell so I passed............
