Can you put vtek heads on a non-vtek? I guess another way to put this is, is the bottem end of the engine the same on both the vtek and non-vtek?

you probably could, but it would take more than just putting the head on. there is electronic control in the ecm and wiring. so figure those factors in too, if the head will fit to begin with.

Yes you can do it. It is commonly done on the B-series non-VTEC engines. LS-VTEC they call it. They also have one based off the old CR-V motor, that one is killer. It put out probably 250HP if done right.

wow, thats the first time i've seen it spelt "vtek"

yeah it can be done, but i'm pretty sure you need the ECU from the car that had the VTEC, or else it wont know when to switch the cam profiles. the LS/VTEC was probably the most widely done VTEC swap, but like BenjiBoy said, the B20/VTEC put out some pretty good power numbers.

i wonder how popular K24/RSX-S head swaps are going to be? :naughty:

I'm sure you'll find a lot at the junkyard.

And I'm not positive that a K24 with a K20 head swap can be done...or else it'd cost a ton of money..? If anything, you'd be looking at the TSX motor for a head swap.

it's been done before. some magazine had a write up on doing a K24/RSX-S head swap...i think it was HondaTuning or Sport Compact Car. the Super Street / Skunk2 Project Civic RR has a frankenstein K24 in it.

the TSX head isnt fully compatible with the other K24's since the K24A3 uses a DriveByWire throttle system.

I thought that the pilot was the only drive by wire.

Nope he's right, the TSX is a drive by wire. On the flip side though, since the K20/K24 heads are both i-VTEC, could you use the same control module? In my mind, you'd have to be running a Hondata or AEM EMS or something similar to control it properly.

i'm pretty sure you would have to use a K20A2 (RSX-S) ECU. the K24 (non-TSX) uses a different type of i-VTEC that kicks in at ~2300 RPM, instead of the conventional VTEC with the high RPM engagement and high duration/lift cab lobes.

my1staccord, many Hondas have drive by wire now: Accord V6, Pilot, Odyssey, TSX, TL, RL, MDX, and i think the Ridgeline too.

i found the article on the K24/K20 hybrid.

If you used a K20A2 ECU, wouldn't the fuel maps be off? The K24 is bigger, I'd assume it wants more air/fuel? Also, different compression ratio might have an effect?
