View Full Version : Purolator PureOne GOLD EDITION!
digitalh3lix 09-09-2008, 08:36 PM So I was at my local advanced auto parts, trying to get a purolator filter or the store brand which is the same as purolator. Apparently they do not carry the store brand anymore and the regular purolators were sold out because of a promo with penzoil. So I got the next best one from purolator and this thing is GOLD colored. Is there really a purpose to have a shiney gold paint texture on an oil filter? Its too fancy and its overkill! I just wanted to share because its so rare to see something like this. ( or maybe it wont be later on)

Left-Laner 09-10-2008, 12:03 AM So they DO make the gold edition for PL14610! I was at the Pep Boys in West Nashville last month and they didn't have any in stock. I ended up buying the Purolator PureOne "with Exclusive Micronic Filtration" for $6.99 Heck, I probably won't even notice a difference between this filter, and the M1 or the Honda OEM, or the ST Filters, etc. lol
Nice gold color!
namegoeshere 09-10-2008, 12:17 AM OMG!!! That's the super ultra rare Golden PureOne filter.
You (and 4 other Golden PureOne filter owners) have just won a coveted tour of Purolator's factory, where you'll get to see their Filter Room, The Inventing Room, The Filter-element Sorting Room, and The Engine Oil Room.
Remember to be nice because one of you are going to win the special prize: ownership of the whole factory.
:lmao:

Already have over 600 miles on my gold filter... have another on the shelf for the Pilot. I believe this is the new PureOne filter. There maybe some old ones in some stores. My local advance only has these and the standard filters.
I1:)

I'm loving the quality of the M1 filters right now. Or I should say My Honda is. Prior to this I had Fram Extended Guard then ST then Honda Stock A02 for like 20k miles.

Prior to this I had Fram Extended Guard then ST then Honda Stock A02 for like 20k miles.x2. I've used the M1 filter in my company Civic for 34,000 miles (since new 8 months ago) and our CR-V (with 6k miles) and they have been excellent! I'll continue the trend on my Accord coupe as well...
digitalh3lix 09-13-2008, 06:54 AM from the first oil change ive been using m1's till i hit around 15k miles. then i switched to purolators now.
Whats the difference in these oil filters?? i have been using the M1 filter with the syn oil.
mhadden 09-13-2008, 08:24 AM Whats the difference in these oil filters?? i have been using the M1 filter with the syn oil.Not a whole lot; they all function the same:D But some filters have a better filtering media or more area than another filter. It's been a while since this study has been done, but read this (http://knizefamily.net/minimopar/oilfilters/index.html) and this (http://people.msoe.edu/~yoderw/oilfilterstudy/oilfilterstudy.html) for more information. Although these "studies" look at construction and filter media type and area, I'd like to see a standardized test testing the ability to filter and which one does the best job.
To sum it up:
Mobil1 filters are praised as one of the best, "However, it uses a unique end plate and a thicker can that make it the strongest filter available for wide distribution retail sale. It also uses a synthetic media, which inproves filtration and flow. I'm happy to say that this filter is NOT a fake. It is definitely a unique design." But there has supposedly been some reports of them failing under high pressures. I wouldn't be concerned since it was probably under racing application.
Purolators are also liked, but has more concerns. It has one of the best filter areas (but still under Mobil1) but some filter media's had damage from a rubber band that is used to hold the media during assembly.
Take all this for what you feel its worth, but you usually do get what you pay for...
cjg1999 09-15-2008, 07:29 AM I use the SuperTech 7317 filters. if you compare it to the mobil 1, its made by the same company and has similar features. I think the only differences are the filtering media maybe the anti drainback valve. the best part is you can buy 3 supertech's for the price of 1 M1 filter

I will cut mine when I change the oil next time which should be in another 2 months or less :) I have about 2k miles to go on current oil.
What I really like about this Gold Edition filter is the powder-coat finish which has a nice grip when you put the filter on.
