I am going to buying an Accord soon. My question is this. Is there a performance difference between the stock 17 inch rims or the upgrade 18 inch rims? Why would I need to buy the 18 inch rims? Will I get a better ride? Better fuel economy? Better anything? I know that they look better than the stock 17 inch rims but is there any other reason for going 18 inches? I would assume that the 18 inch tires will cost more money. I could care less if it makes the car faster. I try to go by the posted speed limit as much as possible. I am not a tight wad, it is just that speed doesn't matter that much to me. If I want speed, I would have bought a Corvette.
Thanks in advance.

They are only for looks. The 18" comes with the V6 and 17" with the I4. Bigger wheels definitely won't make the car any faster.

The car that I "built" online with both the V6 and I4 both came with the 17 inch rims. I could add the Honda 18 inch rims for something like $3000.

Oh OK I'm thinking of the coupe. Are you talking about the HFP wheels? Unless you want them for looks, it isn't necessary at all.

Bigger rims usually are heavier (unless they are obviously the expensive light weight kind). The more weight added to your car, the less MPG and speed. Now we're only talking a few pounds here so you might not even notice. You'd probably have to get some super heavy 22" chrome wheels to notice a difference.
Bigger rims usually have lower profile tires, which equal lesser ride quality (at least among the same tires). But, the change from 17 to 18" won't be that bad.
What will you get then? Slightly better handling (but really not much), slightly better looking wheels (but that's subjective), and more expensive replacement tires.

I should have been more specific but I am getting a EX-L with nav sedan. Silver to be exact. If I do go for the 18 inch rims, they will be one of the two offered by Honda. I wont get anything else because it honestly is not that important to me. The chrome 18 inch rims that Honda offers are good looking (to me). If I can get them on the car and drive off of the lot with them, I would pull the trigger. If I have to wait for them, it is not worth it. To me, it would be all about looks but I am more of a function over fashion guy so if they dont really offer me any performance, I can save $3000 and get my new clubs, kegerator, etc.
I appreciate the comments and help with the subject.
