What are most people getting for miles on their oil changes? I’m at five months and 7111 miles (Total miles now @ 19,208).

More agressive driving will yield much shorter intervals. mhadden 09-22-2008, 08:02 AM The MM system shouldn't be taken literally. I've had anywhere from 4-7k miles when mines reached 15% on both our CR-V and my company Civic. UOA's have concluded that the system is very optimistic on the oil life. I once changed the oil at 70% on the CR-V (had 4800 miles on the oil) and it yielded a lot of mineral contamination and low viscosity as well as additive. This is M1 5W20 with a M1-110 filter. But yes, the MM system will change based off of usage (rpms, miles, cold starts, etc). Honda's is actually smarter than other OE's. Toyota's is just a mileage counter (mine went off at 4700 miles like clockwork). unjet 09-23-2008, 04:50 AM Had my first oil change yesterday at 6300 miles. Maintenance minder read 20%. You need at least an initial sample, samples through out the interval and a sample at the end to accurately judge the oil life. When OEMs use oil analysis, they carry this out on many vehicles at once, not just a single vehicle. That's why it's best to follow the MM instead of trying to determine the best service interval yourself, when in fact, your own data could be misleading. reframmellator 09-23-2008, 01:45 PM Seems high - my '07 SE I4 AT has hit 15% in the 6200-6400 mile range three times now. And I'm not what I'd term an aggressive driver. I'm changing jobs and will have a longer commute, so it will be interesting to see how that affects the MM life. Cyclone792 09-23-2008, 02:53 PM First oil change was at 5,800 miles and the MM read 15 percent. I'm not sure if weather has any bearing on the MM, but most of the driving was winter/spring on that first batch. I'm now at 10,700 miles (4,900 miles after last oil change), and the MM is at 40 percent and it's obviously been summer weather (the MM dropped down to 40 percent last week, maybe 200-300 miles ago). I've been averaging about 750 miles for every 10 percent it drops so I figure my next oil change will be around 6,500 miles since my first oil change. bukxanger 09-23-2008, 06:29 PM my first was around 8k-9k i now have 22500 miles w/ 2 oil changes and still have 60% life... my miles are mostly highway |
