View Full Version : whatcha gonna be for Halloween???
princess 09-26-2008, 02:13 PM I don't know if we're have the opportunity to dress up....:dunno:
Limmie, the chihuahua is going to be painted purple & be a one eyed purple people eater. I'll have to make a horn for him to be like the song though. Maybe I'll just stiffen the fur on top with gel before I paint it.
I'll take pix when it happens.
Last year he was a a pirate.
I bought purple lights for the house today. If anyone is wanting purple lights for Xmas, THIS is the time to buy them!!:D (the orange ones aren't going as well with the colors I have now.)
Dark Shark 09-26-2008, 02:46 PM Darth Maul
princess 09-26-2008, 02:49 PM Are you going to a party or just scaring kids at the door???
Dark Shark 09-26-2008, 02:53 PM Both:yes:
princess 09-26-2008, 02:58 PM I'm going to miss all the kids that came around in CA!
One year I made up a full sized person & then had it & myself sitting in 2 chairs on the lawn.... when kids came I surprised them. Straw is too itchy... I couldn't handle it too long!!:paranoid:
I've been a wonderful zombie. It was for a party & no one knew me. :)

Is Halloween like the similar mexican version, El Dia De Los Muertos or Day of the Dead as in do we actually celebrate the dead or is it some sorta gimmick.
cajun 09-27-2008, 02:41 AM My 7-year-old will be Darth Vader, so I bought a stormtrooper mask. Too cheap to shell out >$40 for a full adult stormtrooper costume to walk around the neighborhood for a couple of hours. Any creative suggestions on the what I should wear along with the mask?
Osiris_x11 09-27-2008, 03:19 AM As an adult (in age, not spirit/mind-set), halloween is so inappropriate, obnoxious, and unclassy now. As a kiddo', I used to love it... getting dressed-up in a costume, trick-or-treating, hay-rides, haunted-houses, neighbor's doing the theme around the house w/ pumpkins, scare-crows, and other related themed stuff.
But, nowadays, it's girls/women over-doing the cliche'd sexy french-maid, naughty nurse, sultry lingerie model, playful 'bunny, sinful angel, vixen cop, hottie teacher/librarian/secretary/lawyer, stripper/hooker/p0rn'star-lookalike, etc' and immature men portraying themselves as pimps, gigolos/strippers/etc', or other current social-taboo/controversial personas.
If wanted be around such a 'lot of individuals, I'd do it right... and join a swinger's club/etc' or go to a "gentlemens" establishment.
Any creative suggestions on the what I should wear along with the mask?
In such an instance, a comedic/left-field approach can be rather creative. Along w/ the mask, go w/ a pair of flannel or satin pajama's, maybe w/ a 'robe on & slippers. Better yet, a 3-piece-suit and a nice attache` or leather brief-case to use for candy-collection... :D
Not sure if you have access to these, but seeing the following would also crack me up (of-course to be used along w/ the Star Wars Storm-trooper's mask): a fast-food joint's uniform (ie. McD's, Burger King, KFC, Taco Bell, etc')!
And perhaps my last corny suggestion... a Star Trek uniform w/ the aforementioned mask, lolz. . .
princess 09-27-2008, 04:39 AM Here, Halloween is simply dressing up as something you're not & either going to a a party or "trick or treating" door to door. Kids generally do the door to door stuff.... ringing the bell & when someone answers yelling "trick or treat" & they get a treat of candy. No parades.
It doesn't mean anything here. We're not celebrating anything. Just an excuse for adults to act like kids.
My prince has always "bah-humbugged" the idea.... "you teach kids not to talk to strangers, not to take candy from strangers, then you send them out to do just that". He still took the kids out. He also took the grandkids out. He doesn't go in costume.
For me, it's an excuse to decorate the house festively. I usually have tombstones in the yard...I won't this year. I put on creepy music & sound effects for the people coming to the door. I've had them coming into a dark garage with black lights & "smoke" to get their candy. I'm a lousy haunter. I'm too perky. :)
Some people dress more creative. Some scary. Some cute. Some barely put an effort in it. :dunno:

princess 09-27-2008, 04:52 AM And that's different than everyday life how??????:dunno:
If the butt dimples shows, the britches are too low!! If you need a wax job to wear your jeans, your britches are too low!:lmao:
Osiris_x11 09-27-2008, 05:07 AM And that's different than everyday life how??????:dunno:So true, princess! :(
Well nonetheless, it's a bit disconcerting to take my now 5yr old nephew, 8yr old niece, and other 10yr old niece out trick-or-treating when a 40-something Cougar dressed as a playmate answers the door, or other instances which are even more uncomfortable (which I'll omit, but you can pretty much assume what I'm jivin' at).
Hypothetically, it would be like if I would be surfing DriveAccord.net in my leisure time, and my lil' nephew comes & sits on my lap while I'm perusing through the posts and unassumingly I'd encounter (which I fortunately don't) bikini/nudie-like avatars/sigs', suggestive posts/threads w/ adult-oriented imagery, etc'. Unfortunately, I can't do such on other car enthusiast forums, hence why I respect this place a lot.
There's a time & place for everything. Desensitizing adolescent & 'tweens w/ stuff they'll be bombarded w/ as adults eventually, is a bit much... IMHO!
Just because I lead an adult-life, have adult-interests, and my own adult-ways, doesn't mean I have the right to embellish such on young, fertile, innocent minds! :D
Anywayz... carry-on! [/rant]
I'd like to rock-out a Prince costume, complete w/ makeup/outfit/etc'. But, we'll see... it might've been played'out as of late, like the Rick James spiel, due to the Chappelle skit.
princess 09-27-2008, 05:20 AM We TRY very hard to keep this a family place..... my grandsons sat in my lap often as I posted here. 5 years ago, when I became a member here he was a five year old & EXTREMELY interested in it!! So fa,r any avatar that's been requested to change has been done... to cooperation!!
I'll miss all the munchkins this year. :bawling:
Bouncnb 09-27-2008, 05:51 AM I am gonna be packing my bags for alert.
I am trying to decide if I should get some candy for kids that may come around. I have for the past few years, but none have come around so it was wasted. I thought they would come around apt complexes, as there are lots of old people around, and such a high density of doors to go to. Plus they are well lit.

Ahh that's too bad. Sounds useless once you become an adult. Why would anyone allow/want kids and their non-costumed adults to come by your house once a year only and then only to want something instead of actually caring about you as a fellow citizen and neighbor and inquiring about your progress in life each year...sounds like an adult mind's worst nightmare but quite a hoot if you are a kid. :lmao:
(just trying to say I won't be celebrating)
jubatis 09-29-2008, 09:37 AM Is Halloween like the similar mexican version, El Dia De Los Muertos or Day of the Dead as in do we actually celebrate the dead or is it some sorta gimmick.
I'll play the know-it-all geek here: :D Halloween is actually based upon a pagan ritual that, in a similar fashion to El Dia De Los Muertos, worshiped and payed respect to the dead and spirits. (It was more of a spiritual ceremony than a holiday.) When Christianity started to convert pagans, they carried the day to help with the transition to Christianity. It has now, like most American holidays, become a commercial event nearly devoid of original spirit of the holiday. (There are other explanations/variations of Halloween, though this seems the most popular/likely.) [End of geek/historical rant]
As far as what will I dress up as - I'm trying to figure out how to make a Honda Accord costume -- I think I'll just stay in my car. :D
Henke33 09-29-2008, 11:27 AM I have no idea yet... trying to think of something good!
Bowzer 09-29-2008, 01:46 PM Our 6 year old will be Carella DeVille and my 1 and 2 year olds will be Dalmations. I'm going as the "Dad" on 101/102 Dalmations which just happens to use the same clothes I already have.
As of this weekend, the house is amuck with Halloween goodies all over the place. It's like being in a gift shop...but for the little ones, it's all good.
I used to have a blast when a kid on Halloween. I was fortunate to be in a great neighborhood and it seemed we did a good 4 hours covering the houses. But I think the best party was a costumed one in New Orleans when I was in my twenties. Big time costume ball...I went as a Cowboy/Gambler stabbed through the heart...knife stuck through a King of Hearts card then through the chest...hey, it was cool then. Danced with a bunch of gals that night. And the winner of the costime ball was a pregnant bride complete with shotgun wielding father.

You're cracking me up with number of references you're coming up with there! Kind of like sitting in a daze at the keyboard looking up...oh yeah, there was that naughty nurse, and that french maid,... :lmao:
Osiris_x11 09-29-2008, 01:58 PM Someone should keep to the Honda theme and dress-up as Asimo!
You're cracking me up with number of references you're coming up with there! Kind of like sitting in a daze at the keyboard looking up...Well, I did forget a few... :D
Halloween, New Years, and Mardi-Gras/Carnival are some crazy times here in towne', lots of people go all out in terms of costumes/prep'/etc'. . .
princess 10-31-2008, 06:42 AM Limmie as a ONE eyed purple people eater!!:D
darkriver4362 10-31-2008, 07:31 PM I brought my lil' one out trick or treating, he was James from Thomas the Tank Engine, I'll try to post up some pics tommorow.
My brother and I did get to scare the living hell out of some 17-19 year old kids who decided they were young enough to go trick or treating.
ItsaHonda 11-01-2008, 09:02 AM My folks like to go all out for Halloween. They've been doing this for about 10 years or so and every year they add a few more things. Mom hands out full-size Hershey bars, glow sticks and other little trinkets to the youger kids.
