Hi

A question to Wardsweb. The Chevy forum I hang out on seem to have a big problems with spam and viruses. They are also on vBulletin (I know little of that system, but the site looks pretty much the same as driveaccord).

Has it recently been an issue for driveaccord? Or maybe you could share any insights as to how to protect the forums from stuff like that...

Thanks.

yury,

maybe i can anwer of wards behalf....

spam normally isn't much of an issue here, canuse of the great mods that we have. plus, they are banned automatically by the mods if spam pops up. most spam on here is taken care of before i even see it.

i have no idea about viruses... wards hasn't mentioned anything to the mods about it.... :dunno:

Yury - most spammer use scripts, robots if you will, that hunt the web for forums to register with and post spam threads. So, the first big stop gap is the registration process. Hackers have software that can read those "human readable" squiggly numbers that are suppose to stop the robots. We use the human verification manager to ask a question that isn't part of any regular software program; i.e. spammers haven't anticipated. They are all about quantity, if they hit a roadblock, most of the time they move on.

Now if the spammer is paying some 3rd world country guy to sit all day and manually hunt forums, again he isn't likely to spend the time to find the answer or won't understand the question. Yes, a few do get through on occasion but our mods are great about banning them quick.

Hope that helps
