Yes I know this is the accord forums but couldnt help but find this article cool

So my old car was a 2000 GTI Vr6 ... While I loved driving the crap out of it and taking corners pretty hard was also alot of fun, as was beating a 5.0 mustang on the track back in its prime, the car was an electrical nightmare

I now have my beloved rare Accord 6MT and love it ... but just read an article on the new new GTI coming next year (new body and new specs) and was very interested to see the new tech in this car ... (whether the us gets the techy version is up in the air) here are the details ...

1. Gets a new cruise control called ACC (Advanced Cruise Control) in which the car when set in cruise automatically sets the appropriate position behind other vehicles (safe distance monitoring) ...

2. Gets parking assist like the Audi A8
3. Rearview camera is now camouflaged into the vw logo on hatch
4. Advanced HID system with around the corner lighting ...
5. LED fogs ...

Will Honda ever step up and take more advanced chances I guess the future will reveal all ...

Those sound like some cool features.

But too bad a month into ownership one of the led fogs will be out and you will be making trips for the cruise control screwing up.

The self parking system is already available on most Euro-spec Tiguans and Passat CCs...It's a very cool feature. You still have to keep your foot on the brake (and shift into R) but the car will take over the steering and automatically engage the parking brake. Speaking of which, the parking brake is fully automatic on Passats/CCs/Tiguans and I believe the new Golf VI. It automatically disengages when you place your foot on the accelerator and is operated by a button on the dashboard.

I don't really think Honda will immediately bend over backwards to catch up to the new levels that are going to be set by Volkswagen for this segment. VW has always been a generation ahead of Honda in the compact and midsize car class as far as features and technology goes (with the notable exception of being late to adding navigation sytems). Maybe in the next generation Accord/Civic, half of the things you mention will be added, but I doubt it. Honda does just fine offering vehicles that are cheaper, and have less tech toys (and a lower lever of fit/finish). The Golf VI was designed and fit with levels of materials as to counter entrants from the German luxury brands into the small car segment (A-Class, 1-Series). So on that fact alone, the car will in fact carry a very premium aura in both design and build quality. Volkswagen has said they are going back to MKIV (99-04) levels of fit/finish and exceeding them. Considering that the MVIV had levels of build quality that are unmatched by any car in it's class even today, that solidifys that they are not out to create a cookie cutter soley for emerging markets, but for the premium compact class in Europe, which has strong competition.

oh, and nighthawk, you do realize that LED technology has far higher lifespans than conventional incandescent/halogen technology? It is a great application for automotive lighting. If you saw a new Audi with "one row of LED DRLs" out, it's becuase the turn signal was activated. It should be noted that while the MKVI may look a little like the outgoing Golf, VW spent great attention to designing the car as to be less prone to problems. They admitted that the last car had inferior interior quality to the outgoing MKIV (which was still better than most peers). They even invited the JDPower quality teams to be part of the development process. So in the end, it's a vastly reworked car that hopefully will move up the Volkswagen name in the quality ratings.
