My car has just recently started to get really bad gas mileage. I get about 270 mile to a tank when I use to get about 330. I have changed the oil, air filters, and checked the air pressure in my tires. I asked honda any siad there really is no solution. I drive 80% on highway. I have a 2006 V6 EX-L sdn. with 42,000 miles. I would be thankful for any help or ideas.

Things to check.
brake drag, are there any wheel(s) that are hard to turn.
wheel alignment, has it recently started wearing tires badly?

Has your area switched to ethanol blended fuel? A drop of 50-60 miles isn't unheard of if they did.

Does the car make the same power that it always has?

What is the engine rpm when traveling at 60mph?

330 is even low. I get nearly 400 miles in warm weather.

I usually get atleast 350+ in city driving. 03 v6 sedan.

Maybe your injectors need a cleaning. Or the plugs are getting crappy.

I get 270miles to the tank in my accord which equals to 20mpg. Not great, but not horrible because it's rated at 18mpg city, and most of my driving is city. I also drive it a bit hard :)

Do you think your car is in proper alignment? What oil do you use? I am getting about 300-315 miles to low fuel light and that is on an old(er) air filter(I've replaced the air filter twice) and I'm at about 55k.

You may of got some really dirty gas. That happened to me one time in my pickup. It took a few tanks of gas before the mileage started to pick up. I have had the best results with Chevron 87 octane. I drive like a madman, close to 50 k a year. I have my mileage all documented. On the road I will get 380-420 a tank depending on how much my foot weighs that day.

What is the actual miles per gallon? What did it drop from? Are you actually figuring the mileage or just going by how much per tank? Some actual numbers here would help.

How about speak intelligently?

Yes, I've heard of VTEC. Just so you know, a J30 goes in and out of 3 or 4 valve mode all the time, anything over 32 to 3500 on the tach it's switching.

A day doesn't go by that the car doesn't see at least 5k on the tach. I've never gotten less than 28 on my usual work drive. I've seen 37 on the highway. That's averaging 67 mph over 1700 miles going through Chicago and Minneapolis traffic. Worst tank ever was a week in Winnipeg at 24 in cold weather.

I had an Integra GSR and a day didn't go by that car didn't see 8100. And it got 28-31 all the time.

When I first bought my car, I was too busy to change my own oil. The place I went to switch me to 5W-30, and 10W-30, depending on what they had. AND, it was REAL noticeable on MPG!!!

I wounder how 20W-50 would work ;=(

Maybe you got substituted like I did...

I did NOT know the J30 did this 3 or 4 valve thing and that I can actually keep it out of Vtec by going less then 3500? Wouldn't that help in getting better gas mileage and if so then at times when I have The NEed for Speed and need up to 4000 rpm to get ahead against tougher foes, I am doing myself a disservice. This is VERY interesting golden nugget and good info and the reason why I keep coming back to DA .

Sorry it took so long to get back. I have my oil changed by my local honda dealer every 3500 miles. I have had my injectors cleaned, i have checked all my tires for any brake lag, and i have gone through about 4 tanks of gas now. I got every tank from a different location, and every tank was between 260 and 280. I also still have the same power as normal. Now anything else?

280 until you hit the empty light? because you still have 4 gallons in your tank when the light turns on :naughty:

Mine comes on at a constant 270, which = 20mpg. Mixed City and Hwy.

Usually just city I pull 17.5 mpg
