I have a 2008 Accord and would like to know where to position the floor jack to raise the car safely and where to put the blocks so I can safely change the oil. Thanks.

Moved to Maintenance and Detailing since Fluid Dynamic section is to discuss the acual fluid....... :) kopimon 10-15-2008, 07:58 AM This may help .. I took these pics for another 8th-gener a few weeks ago when he wanted to know where to jack the car using the OEM jack. I would use jack stands instead of blocks. This Popular Mechanics article is a great read for how to properly jack up your car (among other things): http://www.popularmechanics.com/automotive/how_to/4283377.html Driver's side http://3rror.org/nkimages/driversjack.JPG Passenger's side http://3rror.org/nkimages/passjack.JPG Marc04LX 10-16-2008, 12:20 AM I prefer a set of ramps for oil changes. tommyt53 10-17-2008, 07:05 PM I prefer a set of ramps for oil changes. The only time I used ramps I drove off the front of them . I found it difficult to control my speed going to the top of the ramp. What am I doing wrong??. Marc08EX 10-17-2008, 07:24 PM I also use ramps to change my oil. However, I want to learn how to use jackstands. I know those encircled parts posted by kopimon will be used to rest on the jackstands. But I want to know how to jack the car up before putting the jackstands? Like where can I jack the car... Thanks! I doubt they are different for 08, but you could ask Princess for that page from the service manual. Standard disclaimer applies.. You take your own risk when jacking up your car, and I'm not responsible for any injuries or damage caused. From the front middle, you should see a spot on the frame for where the floor jack is supposed to go. To make it easier, there should be an arrow point towards it on the bottom plastic. From the rear middle, you can use the tow hook. Take a look at this thread: http://www.driveaccord.net/forums/showthread.php?t=19026&highlight=floor+jack&page=2 tommyt53 10-18-2008, 09:52 AM There is a thread on here with the official jack points for floor jacks. Thank you for posting it. rszappa1 10-26-2008, 03:00 AM I remember a book about 101 floor jack positions.....O sorry that was about something else....... shogun 10-30-2008, 12:56 PM I also use ramps to change my oil. The plastic sheathing underneath has an arrow pointing to a round metal area. That's where you place your jack. As for the rear look under the car & you will see a towing attachement. That's where you place your jack. Tayo Na! It was fully extended, but I still needed another couple of inches to get enough clearance. Any thoughts? Honda247 12-10-2008, 01:30 PM Cool, I didn't know you can use the tow hook on the back of the car. Is the spot in te front sturdy enough? If so I will need to get another jack so i can rotate my tire quicker. Right now i jack up the front and then put a jack stand and then jack up the back. shogun 12-10-2008, 01:45 PM Last time I tried using the rear tow hook, the floor jack did not raise the rear high enough to get jack stands underneath it. I Use a couple pieces of 2 X 4's, that gives me enough clearence for the floor jack.:thmsup: Honda247 12-10-2008, 02:43 PM ^ That right, i forgot about that. My uncle alway has a couple of 2X4 around just for that reason. mpumas 12-10-2008, 09:01 PM Ramps are the best and safest. Jacks are too much of a problem to set up. If you are having problems driving up the ramp and the transmission is auto, Use a foot on the brake and one on the gas. Open the door so you can lean out and see where the front wheel is going. Just enough gas to move the car and use the brake to control speed. 03exl 12-11-2008, 05:19 AM Ramps are the best and safest. Jacks are too much of a problem to set up. Just enough gas to move the car and use the brake to control speed. I could probably never to that. For some reason, when I use my left foot to brake I end up pushing way too hard and can't get a "soft touch." Maybe it's because I'm used to using my left foot for the clutch, not the brake (on other cars mind you, since my Accord has an AT). I've contemplated getting the ramp, though. But I already got the 4 jack stands. And you can't use the ramp for rotations. |
