ortcele 10-08-2008, 05:02 PM What is the little blue light next to the sunroof switch for?
I checked in the manual and cannot find any info on it.
I thought it might mean that Bluetooth is on but I have the basic 180 watt stereo that I think does not feature Bluetooth. I was just driven now at night and went to open the sunroof and see that tiny little blue light on what in the world is it for and why is it on. Please answer
jrath1 10-08-2008, 05:04 PM I thought it was just for mood lighting
Hondondada 10-08-2008, 05:08 PM wish i had that little blue light.....=)
ortcele 10-08-2008, 05:09 PM Jrath1 Could be .
I just went and turned on the car to make sure it is always on. The light wont turn on.
If anyone has any info please post cus the curiosity is driven me nuts.
03LXV6 10-08-2008, 05:16 PM Its the ambient light likt Jrath said.
tbowie 10-08-2008, 05:18 PM no, its an indicator that your low beam headlights are on. If you have your lights set to auto you will notice it's off. When it gets dark enough for the low beams to come on, that light comes on.
ortcele 10-08-2008, 05:30 PM Yup that’s what it is. It turns on as soon as I turn on the parking lights. It stays on when I turn on the low beams .
AgentWashington 10-08-2008, 05:31 PM Well, it's not really an indicator light, it's just another interior light that's rigged to turn on when your lights are on (like your radio controls). It's just ambient lighting.
Speedway 10-08-2008, 05:35 PM It is listed in the manual as a courtesy light!
tbowie 10-08-2008, 06:09 PM well its barely bright enough to be anything more than an indicator.
wilcat_2000 10-08-2008, 06:19 PM i actually know this one - i figured it out one night while driving my sister's '06 accord sedan w/sunroof (it was a red light in the 06s) - it's actually a cup-holder illuminator - don't laugh - it really is...try it...
when i was in sis' car reaching for my timmy's cup - it was glowing red - i couldn't for the life of me figure out where the light was coming from - it took like 20 mins to find the ceiling mounted unit...
so...now you know...

wilcat_2000 10-08-2008, 06:25 PM dude! i'm not making it up...
it lights up the cup holder!!!
tbowie 10-08-2008, 06:30 PM yeah according to the 2008 manual for the sedan it is just a courtesy light.

Indubitably 10-08-2008, 06:34 PM it points at the shift knob not the cup holders
salvag 10-08-2008, 06:42 PM Just a little courtesy light...and no it's not a "lowbeam indicator".
A 1 Ownz You 10-08-2008, 06:46 PM i agree, i think its just there for looks, Its the rice side of Honda! :lmao:
firestarter777 10-09-2008, 12:11 AM That little blue light IS a courtesy light. its mainly for driving long distances at night. It seems pretty useless, until u get out to the highway where its dark and no streetlights. then you will appreciate it. Because with no surrouding streetlights, its bright enough that you dont have to turn on the dome light to look for things.
chachu 10-09-2008, 12:45 AM It just there so people like us who have nothing better to do can talk about it :)

It's just to help you find the moon roof switch in the dark.

no, try again
turbodave 10-09-2008, 07:35 AM i actually know this one - i figured it out one night while driving my sister's '06 accord sedan w/sunroof (it was a red light in the 06s) - it's actually a cup-holder illuminator - don't laugh - it really is...try it...

Give this man a cigar, you actually hit it right on the head!!!
Hondondada 10-09-2008, 08:00 AM Now this is a cup holder illuminator!!!!!!!!!!!
gvan1998 10-09-2008, 08:01 AM ill like to know if we can but the ex dome light assembly and attatch to lx-s coupe to get the blue courtesy light. can anybody take pics of their blue light?
rexflexall 10-09-2008, 08:04 AM I got it in mine but it doesn't seem too 'courteous' to me. I can't see anything under that little blue light. But it's cool and at least it doesn't get in the way.
Hondondada 10-09-2008, 08:10 AM i would keep the dome light, I have an LX-S, as well. Keep the DL, but install Blue LEDs elsewhere. Like in the cubby hole,, by the front feet, and one by the cup holders. The only visible parts of the install is the Dimmer knob I 3Md by the Ebrake. This knob has 3 tiny wires coming off the side. There was no easy way to hide them, so i twisted them as neatly as possible and placed it in a location where only 1/2inch of the wires show. But, that .5 inch is more than enough. I hate wires.....but, it took about 30 mins to splice and dice and play. The other 2 visible parts are the 2 tips of each LED pointing at the feet. There is zero reflection or glare facing the driver/passenger. The LEDs are very focused like a spotlight. The only LED facing the driver is the one in the cubby hole. Nobody in the backseat can even see the LEDs head on in there without bending entirely down.
This is why domelights with BLUE annoy me, it is blinding to drive with. What is the point of having them if you cannot drive with them? All of mine are pointed away from the eyes and downward. All of mine have a dimmer, as well. This took the most time to splice etc, but well worth the effects and options it provides. When you see blue lights flashing behind your car, you can just turn the knob realllly qwik. Finally, with my tint, it is very difficult to notice a slight blue aura when looking into the car. So, it is pretty stealth. Thats very impt to me.
next_milenium 10-09-2008, 09:29 AM I tend to agree it's a courtesy light for moonroof controls and homelink.
salvag 10-09-2008, 09:42 AM I tend to agree it's a courtesy light for moonroof controls and homelink.
...it's not... if they wanted to illuminate the controls they would just put a backlight under the buttons. It's just a little COURTESY light that doesn't put out much light!!!!
MatmanVT 10-09-2008, 09:48 AM +1, its a ambient courtesy light. If you get out of the city into the boonies it does throw a little bit of light down into the cupholder and gearshift area... just anough for you to see something without turning on the dome lights. It was present in the previous gen which did not have moonroof controls up on the roof like this gen.
mhadden 10-09-2008, 09:49 AM If you are driving when its dark enough and the gauge/radio controls dark enough, that "courtesy light" is actually pretty nice. It's like moonlighting, just really faint and hard to tell if you aren't in the right conditions.
Bowzer 10-09-2008, 11:04 AM You guys are killing me. First, it's in the manual...it was even listed in the feature package list (was on my Pilot anyway).
An "ambient" light is not there for you to read a novel by, count ice cubes in your drink, or check that your cat didn't leave hair on your pants. Those kind of activities are kind of frowned upon while driving. See, that's why if you do have the sudden urge while driving to check what you just pulled out of your left nostril at night you have those nifty light thingy's that come on with a switch when you need them or when you get in the car...you know, the ****pit (I can't believe that got editied by the auto-sensor) lights that have been around for forever.
The lowbeam indicator idea really cracks me up though.
Wow...Honda actually adds a doodad and everyone starts pointing and yelling.
turbodave 10-09-2008, 11:31 AM I got it in mine but it doesn't seem too 'courteous' to me. I can't see anything under that little blue light. .
Get out on dark country roads, away from city lighting. Take a look down at your cup holders, you'll be able to see them better under the glow that little light. Sure helped me the other night driving out through the Great Smokies.
MikV66MT 10-09-2008, 11:39 AM its none of those.... its a bug zapper like this only for smaller bugs.

peterjames 01-21-2009, 07:05 PM for what it's worth, i remember reading that either volvo or audi...i want to say audi...have lights that are not really visable until your hand gets in the beam...it's for seeing your own hand in relation to the buttons and dials on the dash. that's when i noticed the blue light...it actully illuminated my hand as i reached for a bottle in the cupholder in the dark. not saying that's what it designed for, i'm just saying...
My god people... AMBIENT LIGHT. Repeat after me, AMBIENT light. It's meant to be subtle, barely there, to set the mood when it's completely dark out. Drive to areas where it's pitch black, no moon no street light. You will appreciate the light that much more.
AznRolla 01-21-2009, 08:18 PM I do alot of night driving, and on my way back from work (post midnight), the blue lighting is really not noticeable to me... maybe my console lights, and navi screen, and all that stuff just already adds alot of light... i will play while driving home tommorow night after work and see if i notice anything different. i just thought it looked neat having that blue LED up there anyway.
itstheo54 01-21-2009, 08:40 PM i didnt know you can adjust it according to the manual, where is hte instrument panel though? and the select/ reset knob? i want to make it brighter.
kopimon 01-22-2009, 03:26 AM Instrument panel is where your speedometer and tachometer, etc are .. the knob that you press to cycle your odometer, just turn it clockwise to make the light brighter (only when headlights or parking lights are on)
SMavrides89 01-22-2009, 04:05 AM I dont think you can make it brighter, although it doesnt appear that it was meant to be. It's just ambient light.. nothing more.
AznRolla 01-22-2009, 04:11 AM it does get slightly brighter or darker with the instrument panel
stevencrosbie 01-22-2009, 05:48 AM Yup. It is Honda's Ambient lighting system.
I had it in the Accord and the TL I had in the past and loved it. My truck has two of them (much larger center console) and the subtle light does its job. You can easily see stuff w/o losing your night vision.
Amazing what two little LEDs can do!
shogun 01-22-2009, 07:28 AM Who cares? It's a little blue light. If you don't have it too bad, if you do enjoy it!
08CoupeFella 01-23-2009, 09:22 PM My friends ask me all the time and I just tell them I don't know. But I do now! I'm going to start telling them it's my bluetooth/mood light/bugzapper/low-beam indicator/cup holder light thingy. LOL
