its an indicator that low beam headlights are on or just an ambient light. It pretty much shines down to cup holders or shift knob.:dunno:

It's the map light.

I'm wondering too, how the color is changed and also how you turn it off?

It's somewhat annoying.

It's too dim to be a map light. The amber light is in fact an ambient light. It shines down the center console area to create "ambiance". Like the others have said, you can change the color of the light. Mine, for example is blue.

Honda deemed this little light such a luxury that the LX models (like mine) do not have it.

I also do not have the Door - Light switch either. Meaning, the lights do NOT come on when I open the door at night. I have to hit the light switch myself. I mean, come on, Honda!! My LX V6 wasn't exactly cheap! Even the cheapest of cars has a dome light with a switch to Door that can turn on when you open the door!

Seriously? No door actuated light? That amazes me.

It's part of the new Government Mandated/Homeland Security program. It's watching you...Careful, if you mess with it too much a man in a dark suit will show up with some questions.

Like others have said, it's for ambient lighting. I'm guessing that the bulb is an LED, so it probably can be replaced by removing the Homelink cover.

False(?), I have a 2006 LX V6 that has the ambient light(shown above) and has a light on the bottom corner of the front doors that comes on when I open the door as well as the 2 dome lights(one in the middle and one that I missed for months in the back) which when the switch is set correctly, will turn the dome lights on when the door opens and shuts off when the door closes (although there is a delay per design, I guess if you want to turn your neck to see if you forgot something)

It's Honda copying BMW. My 1999 BMW 540i had them, two actually, in the same overhead pod between the sun visors. I am guessing they add just a little ambient light at night to let you see just enough to grab toll coins, your drink, whatever, at night without having to turn on the entire dome light, AND without interfering with your ability to see out. I like having the light actually, but it's something I could prob live without if I had to.

Yup, it's been on VWs as well since 98. Speaking of this, i just ordered my W8-spec overhead console with dual red LEDs and backlit moonroof controls!:D There is two red leds under the auto dim mirror, the effect is very nice at night. My Honda has one too and it's usefull for shifting at night, but the color is gross out of the single LED.

The red LEDs look nice, kinda submarine-ish.

That's just bizarre cause my 2007 LX V6 definitely does not have that ambient light shown above.
I do have the lights on the doors and rear center that come on when you open the door, but the front dome light definitely has no switch (the two lights just come together - no switches or ambient light at all).

very clear write up, thanks for the link.

But for me, I personally wouldnt do it, just because I'm not too handy with these kinds of things, and could seriously mess some things up
