I have a LX-S so this should be cool for an add on. Definitely gonna cop when it officially comes out!

From Engadget (http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/08/azentek-smartmirror-heading-to-major-retailers-by-end-of-the-y/#comments) via Twice (http://www.twice.com/index.asp?layout=article&articleid=CA6602786&industryid=45190):

Azentek apparently managed to get a few of its SmartMirror rearview mirror replacements out the door back in August, but that brief spat of availability promptly gave way to back orders and waiting lists, and no doubt a few disappointed customers. According to the company, however, it's now not only ramping up production of the GPS-packing mirrors, but promising that they'll be available at "major retailers" by the end of the year as well. In case you missed it the first time around, the $800 device crams a 4-inch GPS unit up alongside an apparently standard-sized rearview mirror, and it surprisingly doesn't skimp on too many features, with it boasting handsfree Bluetooth calling, a built-in speaker, text-to-speech functionality, and an SD card slot for expansion (a 2GB card is included). For some true redundancy, you can also use the mirror as a monitor for a rearview camera.

so you could use the rear view section as a video source as well, for 360 or a dvd.

Kinda dangerous to look all the way up there for an extended period of time just for a visual of the maps/P.O.I.'s, no?

I'd much rather just glance over @ eye-level to see a LCD GPS/NAV above the center-console, whether OEM/stock or after-market.

Nonetheless, neat tech'! I'm keen towards getting a rear-view mirror w/ the V1 radar-detector remote-unit embedded in it. Perhaps a directional compass w/ int'/ext' temperature embedded in the mirror would be nice as well!

GuidoCoupeV6, interesting link. I'm gonna look into it further to see if it's kosher!

Regarding rear-view mirrors w/ the V1 remote-display embedded in them, I used to have one for another vehicle. You basically send the V1 remote unit ($35'ish) & a donor rearview-mirror to them & they do the conversion. However, they no longer do it (the reputable vendors). And I haven't come-across any Honda/Acura specific offerings, though BMW/Porsche/etc' versions exist. I'll dig out the contact info' from ol' rolodex of the fabricators/manufacturers, and post it once I get the chance. . .

The navi unit shown in there is a navigon 2100, and has text-to-speech, so you shouldn't have to look up there too much. However, the navigon itself is 100 bucks. I can't see paying 800 for the mirror, although it is cool.

I bought a Navigon from Fry's during Black Friday and that sh-t was crap. Hopefully there's a similar but better model/brand with more features (compass, weather, etc.). It has a good review (http://blog.sounddomain.com/gadget/2008/09/azentek-smart-m.html), but I guess I'll pass for now, hah...

I don't mind the navigon at all. Easy to use, text-to-speech, tells you speed limits, it DOES have a compass (you need to set the option), never steered me wrong, all for 100 bucks. If you need weather, you obviously are going to have to pay a lot more. Or look out the window.
