View Full Version : MPG for 08 V6 A/T Really bad sonitex 10-09-2008, 11:46 AM I am wondering if I have a problem causing very low mpg from my ride (see my sig). Many members here have reported their mpg going way up to the expected levels once they got to that point. My I4 has been steadily increasing its observed fuel economy since I first got it (miserable 15-20mpg). foamypirate 10-09-2008, 12:01 PM I am wondering if I have a problem causing very low mpg from my ride (see my sig). I am only getting 17 mpg in town driving (rural not city). My car has 2000 miles. How are you calculating your gas mileage? dcfella 10-09-2008, 12:11 PM I'm avg about 22 MPG with mine. It got slightly better after the first 2-3 thousand miles, but just slightly. I went from about 21 MPG to 22MPG. I live in the DC Metro area, so I'm in traffic pretty often. The best MPG I think I've gotten was around 26.5, when I drove like 90% highway on that tank. Shinosis 10-09-2008, 12:58 PM I have the I4 and my mileage isn't great. With 70/30 city/hwy i'm averaging about 22mpg. Real close to 5k on the odo. I hate Ethanol!! Honda247 10-09-2008, 01:04 PM Again, it may be in the way ur driving. :dunno: sonitex 10-09-2008, 01:36 PM Again, it may be in the way ur driving. :dunno: Ok. I'm getting the message: wait till miles on the engine accumulates to 6k. How I drive. I guess I am looking to see if others are experiencing the low mpg's on their V6 A/T Coupes in town driving. These are the conditions: 1. Tires are at 32 psi. 2. 50/50 AC on. Temps have been anywhere from 35 to 75 in the last few weeks. 3. Keeping in mind, I'm mostly concerned with "in town" driving mpg, I accelerate from stop sign or red to green to max 3k rpm's to get to speed. After that initial push I cruise below 2k rpm's. 4. I calculate mpg's by "miles driven divide by gallons pumped (the same way every time) = mpg Note: I have the navi which has the trip computer. The calculations I make and the trip meter always are within 5 tenths. Note: If I have the navi trip meter register mpg at 65 mph (constant with some hills); I will get 30-32 mpg. At 75 mph = 28-30 mpg. Sylv 10-09-2008, 01:49 PM Ok. I'm getting the message: wait till miles on the engine accumulates to 6k. How I drive. At 75 mph = 28-30 mpg. I got 17mpg according to the trip computer, but i floor it every now and then, what octane of fuel are you using? it can vary through this too, Any specific mods also? Intake or oil? Coolcrush 10-09-2008, 02:03 PM I am getting about 23.4 and I have about 1k on the clock. Chris_88 10-09-2008, 02:09 PM hmm i have the same car except sedan form and I'm getting around 24 mpg mixed driving. I barely use the A/C but i like to floor it every once in awhile my odometer reading is around 2,900. My mpg has improved since i only got 18 mpg on my first fillup. next_milenium 10-09-2008, 02:10 PM I was upset initially at what I perceived as bad MPG because I was getting between 21 and 22 with approx. 50/50 local/highway driving. However, I accidentally looked at my window sticker, and there it states 22 MPG for mixed driving. For me constantly watching my RPM and trying to feather the gas to have the ECO light on is not worth it. If I was that conscious about saving gas, I would've bought a civic. I bought V6 and it is what it is. Life's short, step on it and enjoy the rush once in a while. :) Springdaddy 10-09-2008, 02:43 PM I'm avg about 22 MPG with mine. The best mpg is ever got was on a 7 hour trip via interstate - I got 28.7 mpg! :D 07AccordEx-L 10-09-2008, 02:55 PM I am wondering if I have a problem causing very low mpg from my ride (see my sig). I got a V6 as well and I just pulled in 23 mpg doing mostly city. It does NOT matter whether you have an I4 or V6, all Accords get that miserable15-20 mpg when brand new and then it goes up after break-in err or should I say after some thousands miles (your results may vary in terms of actual mileage). I recall on the 2006 I4 I had that it was so miserable that first week or two that I actually thought I bought a V6 and ended up trading it back in due to a vibration ad idle for the V6 Having said that, I was coming off a small compact 'Acura' Integra but it was a shock to see how much variance there is in gas mileage between compact cars and mid-size cars. Now with all the wicked gas prices, it's all a blur and I am happy to be beating my V6s EPA (20 mpg) by 3,4, 5 and even sometimes 6 mpg having averaged 26.4 mpg when I had my tires overinflated and coasted to stops everywhere!! elp_jc 10-09-2008, 03:26 PM I guess my 6MT is pretty good then. I'm averaging 21.3 since I bought it 850 miles ago, on mostly city, short distances, and warming up the engine a bit. Not bad, huh? I'm a happy camper. I almost always shift up at 3K min, so am not babying the sucker, but not hammering it either. Now that break-in is over, I'm 'exercising' it more for sure. Good day. JC dazz8787 10-09-2008, 03:32 PM I am one of those that are getting pretty bad MPG. I am getting around 17MPG mostly city and its mostly stop n go driving. I have about 1k so far, and hopefully my MPG will get better over time. Kupo 10-09-2008, 03:47 PM im at 8k miles and usually get 26mpg with 100% highway sonitex 10-09-2008, 05:24 PM Wow. I don't feel alone anymore. Kudos to those seeing better than 20+mpg. One of the reasons my low mpg with this car brought it to my awareness is that I had the same car for two months (June to August 08). Only difference this one has navi and is TW instead of Black w/out navi. With that car I was avgng 24 mpg from the getgo. I did increase the tire pressure on the black to 36 psi. But man, it is a rough riding bronco with that pressure. Like driving a car with solid rubber tires. LI Honda Guy 10-09-2008, 05:26 PM I have the I4 EX Coupe with auto trans, and get a solid 25 MPG in mixed city/highway driving here in NY. I don't beat on it, but I don't baby it either, other then for the first 600 miles as per the owners manual. I'm at 1740 miles, but have gotten that 25 MPG since my first fill up. Have to say that I'm pretty satisfied with the MPG and power I'm getting out of the I4. northcoast 10-09-2008, 05:49 PM I have 2K miles and I am getting 22-23mpg mixed and 26-27 when all highway. I was concerned when I first started reading this forum after I made my purchase, but, I can't complain if it will get even better as time goes on as some suggest. :) 1-VT3C 10-09-2008, 06:04 PM getting 26 mpg city, usually more then 400 miles on a full tank. for I4 :dude: XenChi 10-09-2008, 06:14 PM getting 26 mpg city, usually more then 400 miles on a full tank. for I4 :dude: How many miles do you have on your 08 thus far?:notworthy A_Boudreau 10-09-2008, 06:21 PM wait. so the a/c effects your mpg? cloudy77 10-09-2008, 06:24 PM I have a coupe V6 AT. Averaging 22 MPG with mostly suburban driving and I've gotten just over 28 on the highway. I could probably do better if I could resist the temptation to bury my foot in the gas pedal as often as I do. :naughty: But under the circumstances, I'm satisfied. qbanlinx 10-10-2008, 08:48 AM i average every week about 22MPG with 80% city/suburban (stop lights everywhere) and 20% hwy; currently just under 4K. Honda's quoted avg. combined fuel economy for the V6 AT is 22MPG so i'm just where it i should be i guess. oh and this is with mixed driving; a fair share of hearty accelerations as well as easy coasting. turbodave 10-10-2008, 09:36 AM Man!! Since then I've never had one drop below 24mpg. 29 is pretty easy on the highway. next_milenium 10-10-2008, 01:57 PM Yes I almost got 4,000 miles and I am starting to get more mpg then when I had first got the car. What's the point of owning a v6 if you don't use the power? I often push the pedal 3/4 to all the way when I'm merging into traffic on highways. sonitex 10-10-2008, 05:03 PM Hm.......never pushing the pedal more than 1/4 means people behind you will be pissed. I love when I can go from 65 to 90 mph in two or three heartbeats. |
