View Full Version : The New Wheel Dilemma Finally Solved
el Vato 10-12-2008, 08:41 PM I had been on the fence about modding. I really wanted to keep the car stock. I was planning to purchase a used something else for a fun track car. All that has changed now. I threw the track car out the window and decided to get on with some mods. I had preached about 18's are the best way to go but I couldn't pass up this deal. Found them on Craigslist here in the Bay Area. I'm really impressed by the finish and quality. I had always wanted another set of 1 piece forged wheels since my last pair a few years ago. I went with these Rays Engineering 19x8.5 et35 10 spoke wheels. There's a Nismo decal but that will be coming off. They came with blank centercaps but I'm wondering if the stock Honda centercaps on my 17's would snap right in. Oooh.......I can't wait.
What do you guys think?

Marc08EX 10-12-2008, 08:54 PM WHOA WHOA WHOA!!! These are the wheels I suggested and these are the wheels I want!!! You couldn't go wrong for the price and quality of these wheels! Mind if I ask how much you picked it up for?
Dude, when are you going to mount it on your car? What color is your sedan? Please post pics pronto!!! I'm sure these wheels would be SWEET!!!!
CONGRATULATIONS by the way!!!
el Vato 10-12-2008, 08:57 PM My sedan is silver like yours. I'm going to shop for tires but I'm not rushing to get them on yet. I want to buy and install lowering springs first.
I picked them up for $600.

Good luck man! Let us know when you get everything done! I'm curious to see how it would look like on an ASM sedan!
Gosha 10-12-2008, 09:09 PM Yeah those are nice. i planned on getting those but in gunmetal color for the coupe but couldnt find the gunmentals for the same price as the silver around 600ish, so went with HFPs
cant beat Nismo quality, i mean Rays :). on the sedan they will look nice
victorden 10-12-2008, 09:12 PM nice wheels , is it from nissan? and it will fit accord also?
el Vato 10-12-2008, 09:20 PM I was originally going to upgrade from my stocks to Acura TL Type S wheels, to reuse my stock tires. I just wanted to do a mild upgrade but when I found out prices for those Type S wheels were a ridiculous $900, I started looking for something else.
Yeah Victorden, these are designed for Nissan but they'll also fit our Accords.
woody4364 10-12-2008, 09:26 PM Are you going to keep the Nismo decal's on the wheels?
Osiris_x11 10-12-2008, 09:29 PM If you don't have to remove your fender-liners & roll your fenders, I'm gonna be a bitter ol' soul... trust me! :(
I passed-up on a set of these on ebay for $550/shipped for the wheels, valve-stems, Nismo lug-nuts, and center-caps.
According to the offset calculator, these rims would extend 1" (~25mm) further out than the HFP 19" rims (8" wide, +55mm offset). Those HFP wheels are already fairly snug in the wheel-well as-in not too far in. Everyone/anyone I spoke to mentioned some tire/fender action, grrr!
Oh, don't forget about getting some hub-centric rings as the Maxima/Nissan hub-bore size differs from the Accord/Honda hub-bore size. Otherwise, you're gonna get some crazy vibrations (which mebbe' your lady passenger(s) may actually enjoy... :naughty:)
G'luck w/ it & obviously post your experience along w/ some nice pics!
el Vato 10-12-2008, 09:40 PM I'll be removing the Nismo decals.
Yeah Osiris, hub-centric rings will be purchased for sure. I figure if Tirerack offers this exact size wheel as an option for our cars, they should fit. The guy included black anodized lug nuts but mentioned they might not fit since Accords use a different size.
BTW, anyone is invited to rock Nismo wheels. ;)
woody4364 10-12-2008, 09:51 PM Cool! 19's will look perfect! Post some pics when you mount them!
Osiris_x11 10-12-2008, 09:54 PM I figure if Tirerack offers this exact size wheel as an option for our cars, they should fit...
Tirerack.com offers 19" x 8.5" +35mm offset for the 8th gen' Accord? I'll be damned... so much for asking presumed experts, I should've just checked the site or called them up!
Oh yea, damn you, too... el Vato!
(sounds like a line from a Spaghetti Western w/ good ol' Clint Eastwood... :D)
el Vato 10-12-2008, 10:24 PM Osiris, I take back what I said. Seems I assumed the size was offered by tirerack but I'm wrong. The closest size is 19x8.5 et40. So I'm 5mm more aggressive. I might be able to get away with it, hopefully.
Osiris_x11 10-12-2008, 11:07 PM 5mm won't be much of an issue w/ the outer-finder/wheel-well. Only issue would be mebbe' brake-caliper and/or suspension clearance. I *think* you're gonna be fine, just w/ a very aggressive/pushed-out look (going by a few others on this forum who have 8th gen' coupes & got G35 wheels).
Keep us posted, hombre!
argus 10-12-2008, 11:44 PM Good luck and post pics asap..
mhadden 10-13-2008, 06:12 AM Is it me, or is hard as hell to find rims that are in prestine shape? (ie, no curb rash or marks) I'm not an aftermarket guy, but it's been a b*tch trying to find some OEM wheels that are a decent price and not damaged in some way...I guess I'm not patient enough or I'm not looking in the right areas (I do look on eBay and Craig's)
el Vato 10-13-2008, 06:50 AM When buying used finding them in prestine shape is difficult. Part of buying used means you have to be open to a few blemishes. Since my car wasn't going to be a show model, I'm ok with imperfection. However, I was lucky to find these in brand new condition.
Osiris, I might have to go with a smaller tire like 235/40/19 if I don't want to rub. This is going to be interesting. I better lower the car before I buy tires.

+35 wouldn't have a problem with our cars unless you're dumped.
el Vato 10-16-2008, 10:37 PM I've reconsidered guys...I'd rather get some 18's or TL Type S 17's instead. The Ray's wheels are up for sale. I'll have some pics of the wheels tomorrow. They'll be on craigslist tomorrow too.
Any takers here?
Osiris_x11 10-16-2008, 10:45 PM Decisions, decisions... HFP 19's w/ the MS Live.com ebay/paypal 30% cashback OR el Vato's Nismo 19" silver forged-alloys! Ugh. . .
You're in NorCal'? Post a link to the CL listing when you get a chance, if you don't post them here for sale!

el Vato 10-22-2008, 10:01 PM This must look bad on me but I guess I'm just being precautious. Well I'm done doing that. I found a guy locally with a used pair of 235/35/19 tires. I know I should go with 245/35/19 but seeing the clearance issues I might be faced with, I'm going with something 10mm shorter in width. Actually, more like 5mm less from each side. I'm going to test fit two wheels with those tires this weekend. If all seems fine, I'll pull the trigger on new tires.
We'll all know shortly if these rims fit ONCE AND FOR ALL!
