View Full Version : HFP rims what do you think?
Chocopie 10-19-2008, 06:06 PM Okay,
So do begin with, I don't mean to make this post to offend anyone who has already installed their rims. But I am just wondering.... what is wrong with the HFP 19" rims?? :dunno: I kind of like them, but a lot of people seem to love these other after market rims. I would be kind of scared of the quality of the rims, if they would bend by a deep pothole.... or etc... What do you guys think? Same goes with the HFP drop... is it not low enough? What do you guys think? Maybe some comparison pix to prove the points of differences?
jblaust 10-19-2008, 06:20 PM Well...I can say it is weird how Honda stopped selling the HFP 19's and switched to 18's. I wonder why they did that?? Anyone know?
Dark Shark 10-19-2008, 06:58 PM Honda stopped selling them but brought them back two months later...don't know why. The only thing I don't like about them is that you cannot change the offset, and that is probably one of the main reasons why many people don't like them. You run the risk of bending any larger rim regardless of whether it's HFP or some other brand. As for whether the or not the HFP suspension drop is low enough, that's your personal preference and to me it's low enough.
I went with HFP products for compatibility and warranty issues. Also I don't like cars that look too "aftermarket". The HFP products give you a stylish look that isn't over done IMO.
Osiris_x11 10-19-2008, 07:02 PM The mere mention of them (HFP 19" rims) being discontinued sent shock-waves down my spine... I need to get on w/ it & acquire a set before it's ultimately too late!
Thanks for the reality-check, ya'll! :D
Chocopie 10-19-2008, 07:02 PM but... what is covered in the "warranty"?? like.. .if the rim bend do they replace or something like that? and yes... you can still buy the HFP 19 inch rims... for 3k... why is that junk so expensive lol

They are still available, I just bought mine a month ago.

Don't buy them from the dealer, there are numerous online sites that sell them for half of that. I don't think the warranty will replace a bent rim if it's done by driver error.
Osiris_x11 10-19-2008, 07:15 PM Regarding them getting bent... hello!?! No manufacturer's warrantly, implied/written ever guarantees against wear-&-tear and owner/driver-caused damage.
That's like buying ice from the 7/11, and returning hours later to say it melted on the way home!
Being that they are an actual Honda OEM option/accessory, they won't void the limited new-vehicle warranty if there's ever a fault/defect w/ the brakes, steering, suspension, and so forth. They are a heavy, cast-alloy wheel that's quite durable/robust in terms of ever being bent or developing cracks, as well as the finish ever chipping/nicking. If there's a defect w/ them due to Honda, they're under the same parts/options/accessory warranty that other Honda components come w/, provided they were acquired brand-new from an authorized Honda dealer/parts-supplier.
Also, HFP 19" wheels are $1200 + s/h from www.accessories-honda.com, and approx' ~$900 +s/h on ebay using the MS Live.com ebay/Paypal 30% cashback, and possibly that discounte can be further stacked w/ the 10% ebay-coupon currently given to certain individuals, for another ~$100 off the buy-it-now price.
Friends don't let friends pay retail... :D
jblaust 10-19-2008, 07:15 PM I thought the HFP 19's were discontinued and all that was available was the the left over stock. Thats what a dealer told me a few months back.

It's possible, at one point I couldn't find the rims at any dealer and lately they all seem to have them. However when they were discontinued, Honda took them off their website, but now they are listed with all of the other accesories.

i asked 2 dealers the same question and they said no such thing...
i bought mine cheaper anyway so yeah, dont buy em directly from local dealer, too expensive
woody4364 10-19-2008, 08:21 PM The wheels are great! I dont have a problem with the offset. I paid 1500.00 for them with tires from a member of this site. Dont buy them through Honda. Way overpriced.
Chocopie 10-19-2008, 09:01 PM 1500 for everything??:notworthy that's a steal... even though it's a "hand me down" so I'm looking hard at this ms live thing and ebay... i just dunno if its safe to buy the wheels from ebay... shoot... such a dilemna
woody4364 10-19-2008, 11:24 PM They only had 200 miles on them so it's cool. EBAY is fine. I don't know how ms live works.
Osiris_x11 10-19-2008, 11:55 PM i just dunno if its safe to buy the wheels from ebay... shoot... such a dilemnaSave the drama, and just buy them. All the ebay vendors are either Honda OEM parts suppliers or wholesalers. You're not buying an used item from a private seller. You're buying a brand-new item from reputable sellers.
And there's the Paypal protection policy, as well as your own credit-card company's safeguard/support.
Check-out the seller magauto on ebay (also selling HFP 19" rims), I've bought $1,000's of parts from them via online (www.magauto.com)
There's no dilemma. Be cheap & buy them from ebay or another online vendor (what I'd do). Be frivolous & buy the same thing in-person @ a Honda dealership for more money. Perhaps even ask the dealer's parts-dept' to price-match, that's what I do at times.
You're not buying a loose diamond or a priceless antique. It's a mass-produced wheel that isn't even all that. Trust me, no one's out there to scam you (based on the current sellers of the HFP 19" rims on ebay at the moment), lolz. . .
Why you makin' it so difficult? :D

I'm a complicated man... Everything must be difficult... Never thought about asking for a price match though lol hmmm.... prob gonna go through ebay... I just don't know how to put tires on the rims... never done it before,
Osiris_x11 10-20-2008, 08:25 AM ... I just don't know how to put tires on the rims... never done it before,Generally, www.tirerack.com has the best prices around. Order from them & then use one of their recommended, local tire installers. It's about $15-$20/wheel for mount/balance/valve-stems & swap over the TPMS from your original wheels. I *personally* got a local guy that does it for $5/wheel, and if it's a "low(er) profile" tire, $10/wheel. It's an import tuning/alignment shop in a kinda industrial part of 'towne, I'm sure you got 'em too. . .
Also, compare it to www.discounttire.com, as they can price-match & you don't have pay shipping then (as they are local), but you'd have to pay sales-tax. They offer the mounting/balancing/valve-stems for $20/wheel (sometimes it's factored into the price of the tire if purchased locally vs. online).
It's really simple nowadays to get stuff done, point-click & drive-over... voila!
jose8921 11-17-2008, 03:23 PM Did any of you guys had to do any modifications to the odometer programming because of the HFP wheels?
Osiris_x11 11-17-2008, 08:12 PM Did any of you guys had to do any modifications to the odometer programming because of the HFP wheels? As long as the rolling/outer diameter doesn't exceed 2-3% of the original wheel/tire combo', no changes to the odometer are necessary, as well as no compromises w/ VSA & brake function.

jose8921 11-18-2008, 07:28 PM Cool website, very useful!!!
What size of tires do you guys recommend. I had 245/40's on my mind for the 19" HFPs.
Dark Shark 11-19-2008, 08:46 AM Did any of you guys had to do any modifications to the odometer programming because of the HFP wheels?
Not at all. The change in the speedometer is so minimal that you won't have to worry about it. Your speedo will be off by less than 1 mph.

That's what I have too. If you're really concerned about the speedo you could drop to 245/35, but I think you'd hate the ride.
bruceleroy 11-19-2008, 03:52 PM i love them and i just ordered them last week off ebay for 25% off. will be here this friday

bruceleroy 11-20-2008, 09:17 AM does anybody have pictures of the HFP wheels with 245/45R19 tires? does it fill up the wheel well better?

Probably not by much, but it would be a more comfortable ride.

would 45 mess up the odometer?
Osiris_x11 11-20-2008, 10:59 AM would 45 mess up the odometer?Yea. Big time. Not to mention fender/wheel-well rubbing issues. I would avoid that size as it's WAY too tall for the wheel-well.
45 profile means 45% of the width of 245 (in mm's). So a 45 profile tire is actually taller than a 50 profile tire w/ a 225 width not due to sidewall height but due to the larger wheel-diameter (17" vs. 19"). Lots of folks get the aspect-ratio concept mixed up.
I would avoid 245/45/R19. . .
Use this site for reference (compare your OEM/stock sized tires to 245/40R19 to 245/45R19)...

jose8921 12-10-2008, 01:06 AM Is the HFP on the wheels a sticker, engraved or printed on the wheel?
bruceleroy 12-10-2008, 10:45 AM printed
jose8921 12-13-2008, 04:42 AM Mine are exactly the same, but the HFP seems to be a sticker. Unless it was shipped like that to protect the print, which I doubt. Are there any imitations out there?
Also the TPMS light suddenly came on last night, need to check the pressures but looking at the tires they do not seem flat. Anyhow I installed mine last saturday.
