View Full Version : 04 coupe, odd heating problem

I'm not getting heat out of my car, irrespective of how warm the engine is (the temperature 'gauge' seems to work correctly), or whether the climate system is on automatic or manual.

Here are the salient points:

1. Any temp setting, from 70 to 'Hi' (right after 85, I think) gives the same results (no heat).
2. When cooling, everything works as it should; when heating, the fan seems to work (that is, I hear it) but only a very small volume of air comes out of the vents. That air is not warmed - at least on the driver's side.
3. This morning I noticed a really odd thing, which in my mind rules out the thermostat: the housing around the vents for the passenger side is noticeably warm to the touch, as it should be (even though very little air is coming out of the vents), whereas the plastic dash (housing) around the vents for the driver's side are as cold as if no heat had been turned on.
4. The results are the same whether I have the controls set for 'dual' (independent control of the left and right sides) or not.

I'm going to take this to the dealer as soon as I get a chance; I just wondered if anyone here has ever experienced such a thing. I have a feeling a fix will be expensive...

Thanks for your time.

Long ago, my dad warned me that it's a dog-eat-dog world. Well, years of experience have led me to believe that it's just the opposite.

Kelson, have you run the self diagnosis? The instructions for it are on here someplace.

Princess, I will continue to look for those instructions. I am unable to be very specific with the search function (specify compound words, require all words for a match, specify words to exclude), but I'll probably find it.

I also did not find it searching the owner's manual (pdf version).

Maybe I can just find it working through the menus in the car itself.

Anyway, thanks for the tip. It may shed some light on this strange affliction.

Big thanks to both of you guys. I'll check this out when I get a chance, tonight or tomorrow. I'll also report back on what I find, and what the dealer says when I take it in (presuming I must).

Thanks again.

All men are frauds. The only difference between them is that some admit it. I myself deny it.

Does the heat work on defrost or floor. It sounds like the control flap may be stuck.

08Coupe, that may be part of the problem , if that flap controls the air flow for the heat but not the A/C - the air comes out fine for the A/C.

I tried the steps for the self-diagnostic; I get no results. Turning the key on, then setting the driver's temp to LO, then holding the ON button down while pushing the back window defrost 5 times in 10 seconds has no result at all.

I shudder to think what the dealer will hit me with for this, but it looks like that's my next stop.

Thanks for the help, folks. This is going to be one of those expensive lessons, I think. Oh, well, I had too much money laying around anyway... ;^)
