During 2006-2008 many, if not all, Discount Tire stores unknowingly installed defective valve stems with tire purchase/repair. I received a recall letter explaining this and had mine changed out this morning. There is no charge but they do require an appointment. If you bought tires from them during that time period it's worth a phone call to check it out.

Apparently the valve stems are brittle and breaking off when someone attempts to air up a tire. There could also be catastrophic failure on the highway. Not a bueno thing to happen.

Ick.

The C240 is affected by this probably.

I'll have to tell my family in Houston to take care of it for me.

By all means have them check into it. The whole procedure took 30 minutes, they don't even need to rebalance the wheels. The tire is broken down at the valve stem only, old one out, new one in, aired up, and remounted.
