On the 7th gen's 6-disc changer, can I use the random setting across all of the loaded discs? Or does this thing totally suck?

It sucks. Random is for only one disc. One of our complaints too. That's the main reason I started burning my own... then I can have semi random. Generally I do keep the "mood" the same on each CD, but not always the artist.

Words cannot express how mind-numbingly stupid a "feature" that is.

Although I agree that it would be a nice feature to have, I have to believe that randomly shuffling 6 discs on a regular basis every time a song changes would guarantee a head unit breakdown in a very short period of time, probably less than the 3 year warranty time frame. Honda probably ran the numbers, and decided it would not be worth replacing all those broken and jammed head units....

The Denon deck we had in the '82 & then the '86 was a 10 CD (in the trunk) unit. It lasted for 11 years & it had all random.... so I guess the longevity would depend on how they did it. I miss the feature! I have adapted though.... This isn't something that would be a decision breaker or maker, but it was a great one to have. I was really frustrated too when I discovered the random was only for 1 CD at a time!

umm.. given the fact that the 6 cd changer takes about 15-20 secs to change between cds, the random function would mean 30 secs of silecne and searching when switching between songs..i wouldnt not like that at all.

Maybe that's why they don't have it on these units....too slow. The Denon wasn't. It was just a pinch more time than just going to the next song....almost exactly what the random is on just one CD. I was impressed! Our home unit was carausol (sp?) & was a lot slower.... It was also Denon. It lasted until a family member stuck 6 in it instead of 5 & forced it.... stripped a gear inside. I sure miss it at Xmas time! We didn't replace it. The DVD will do 6 (Onkyo), but normally for music at home I just use the computer. He has it all tied into the Bose speakers & the big ones in the front room.

If they gave us MP3 capability there wouldn't be that problem.

Could do the smarter random. Random your way through each disc uniquely then proceed to the next one.
