View Full Version : What did you trade in to get your accord?
whiteV6coupe 10-22-2008, 03:17 PM I traded in my 2003 GTI 24 valve VR6 with 65k miles, leather, premium package and cold weather package. It was in need of all new tires, had some body damage from a landscaper hitting it with a lawnmower and it was repaired at a body shop after I hit a deer but it never was the same. It also had an aftermarket bazooka subwoofer installed.
They gave me $9,000, with NJ sales tax at 7% my total off my accord was $9630. I could have sold it for more since people love to mod these cars but took the easy way out.
Side note, the salesman tried telling me that the reason he was not offering me more for my car (this was at $7500) was because it was a V6 and it wastes too much gas, my response to him was that I was buying a V6 and therefore helping them out because they would have a hard time selling the accord too.
AznX TL 10-22-2008, 03:45 PM i parted out my CL, took off the lip kit, transfered the sub over, took off the hids and ect parts.
they gave me an option buy their car at sticker @$22.6k and they buy my car at sticker $3k
or i buy their car at wholesale price $20.6k and they buy mine at whole sale $1.5k
so i just took the 1.5k.
but the cl was developing problems like leaking rack and pinion, door was sagging, slight engine knock but other then that it was in tip top shape and looked great.

Ditto
WolfpackBill 10-22-2008, 03:50 PM I traded in my '96 Acura 3.2TL Premium. I loved that car so much but because it requires premium gas and the fact that it gets about 17mpg so I had to get rid of it.

Boy you are a good negotiator, luckily you did all by yourself. Too bad I didn't have help when I got rid of my car. :notworthy
Wait a minute you did help.
I traded in my 2002 Audi A4 that had 74K miles. I got $8200 which wasn't great but I feel sorry for who got my car.
The ignition coils started failing, the check ingition light would turn on sporadically and I needed 4 new tires. I loved my Audi, but once the car hit 65K miles it wasn't worth keeping.
meirvin 10-22-2008, 03:59 PM 2005 Nissan Murano...I did it for the mileage
RTexasF 10-22-2008, 04:05 PM 2003 Corolla LE 5 speed, driving it more than an hour killed my back.
LT2BLT 10-22-2008, 04:30 PM 2004 Nighthawk Black Civic EX Coupe. Loved that car but back surgery made it too hard to get in and out of...:bawling:
gaviota 10-22-2008, 04:35 PM Nothing! I had two cars, now with the Accord I have three.
The story is that I went to the Honda dealer trying to trade my Hyundai Galloper for a new Honda Pilot. But resale value on the Hyundai was so ridiculously low, that I decided to keep it for my weekend offroad trips instead of giving it away for almost nothing, and bought the Accord as my daily driver. And after an engine rebuilt the Hyundai Galloper is great for the weekend offroad trips.

08coupex 10-22-2008, 05:53 PM Just cash, figured with 2 v8 trucks a I4 would be nice to pass a gas station once in a while.
ssmtsx 10-22-2008, 06:08 PM 2008 Toyota Camry SE 5spd. The worst car I have ever owned. Have not missed it for 1 second. I only bought it because I work for a toyota store and our General mgr was pissed that I had bought a new civic. I got a screaming deal on it but after 8 months I couldn't bare to drive it, and went back to Honda
psyshack 10-22-2008, 07:17 PM Trading cash for Accord....
MMMII 10-22-2008, 07:33 PM I traded in this:
http://gallery.mac.com/mmmii/100228/100_2227/web.jpg
Weekly $120+ trips to the pump stopped being fun since we stopped using it for recreational "stuff" once our daughter was born.
28k or so miles on it when I traded it in. The market (gas was around $4.20ish or so in August when I traded it in) drove the resale value down but still feel they were fair on the trade-in value.. Could have got more privately since "truck guys" are truck guys no matter what but I just don't have the patience for that whole private sale thing.
accordexlv6 10-22-2008, 09:08 PM Have never traded a car into a dealer after all these years (since 1983). I have sold every car myself. Almost all were Honda-made, Toyota-made or Nissans. Japanese cars in perfect condition with little discernable wear sell for a lot more privately than any dealer will ever think of offering, and they sell very fast with little buyer hesitation. A cinch.:)
Now, the car I had before the Accord was a 2000 Maxima SE. My dad bought it from me when he realized that downsizing to one car for both of 'em (mom and dad), was not cuttin' it. Then my mom lost her driving vision through 3 corneal transplants, and her RX330 ended up being the one they would keep. My parents then gave the Maxima to our son when he turned 16. He was thrilled. Now he has the car at school.
Of course now the Accord will be our daughter's car and the new Murano is mine!
Honda247 10-22-2008, 09:25 PM 2008 Honda Pilot EXL 2WD. Was spending close to $1,000 on gas a month.
morcheez 10-22-2008, 10:01 PM well i totalled my 05 toyota tacoma xrunner...got a big check from insurance ..paid off the truck and put the rest down on the car
Hondaboy9602 10-22-2008, 10:02 PM Our 96 Accord was a replacement for our 86 Jeep Cherokee. The 02 coupe was bought as a third car, and the 02 sedan was bought as a 4th car. The 96 was totaled and a couple years latter we bought the 03 and 06 Accord as a 4th and 5th car.
D4rk3y35 10-22-2008, 11:13 PM 1985 Mercury Grand Marque with 210,??? miles.. got $500 for it.

Why? A statment like this deserves some explanation!
MatmanVT 10-23-2008, 10:09 AM 2005 Accord EX-L Coupe (Non-Navi) 5 Spd. Wife has baby fever, so the coupe was gonna be impractical sooner or later. Must admit, the increased headroom has done wonders for my back, never realised how much I slouched in the coupe!

I traded in my 2000 GTI 12V VR6 with almost 160k miles on it with driver side door damage from a hit and run in a parking lot during a snow storm ..Car was fully loaded and modded since i took it to the track 2-3x during the summer months ... Got $3500 towards my current Accord...
I agree about getting more, (it would have been a long shot for me due to the milage) but its funny to see the young kids these days and there salvaged looking civic hatches drool over my GTI while begging me to sell it to them ... (happened at an expressway oil change one day) :lmao:
If only they knew the nightmares i went through with that car almost the entire time i owned it .. If it wasn't for the engine being bullet proof i would have had it stolen :paranoid: Jk ... :D

nyy845 10-25-2008, 06:07 AM 04 Subaru sti, I sold it privately with all modifications. Man do I miss it but the honda is better for a long commute.

2004 Civic. It was purchased for the X during happier times, then I got it after the split. I never really liked it so I never took a picture of it. One thing in its favor though, the stock audio system on the '04 Civic can thump the hell out of the one on the '08 Accord.

woody4364 10-25-2008, 06:29 PM Dealer was only giving me $1000.00 for my civic. So i sold it on the street.

catbert430 10-27-2008, 07:33 AM I traded a 2001.5 VW Passat 1.8T with 65K miles.
The dealer tried to give me $4K but, I held out for $8K because that was the trade-in value at kbb.com.
They told me $8K was outrageous, but I wouldn't budge. They finally gave me the $8K and then had the nerve to list it on their website the next day for $12,995.
I'd love to know what they really got for it. It was hardly worth 8.
sawatkins 10-27-2008, 03:32 PM I traded a 2006 Honda Civic EX-Navi 2 door. It was a great little car too. I just wanted something a little more "grown up". Sometimes I miss the little car for the gas savings, but overall I love my Accord.
chaqui74 10-27-2008, 04:12 PM My Lease was up so i traded my 04 accord v6
