I have a 97 4DR Special Edition that has clocked 121K. Recently I had been to Midas for Oil change. The guy suggested me to schedule 120K maintenance. I am not sure if I should do it as everything seems to be working fine. BTW the list of 120K maintenance items he handed over is totally different from the one mentioned in the Owner's Manual. His list suggests replacing timing belt whereas I replaced it at 105K as per the manual. When I told him its already done, he laughed and said "Oh you got it done earlier. You seem to be taking good care of your car." :lmao:

Since I didn't show any interest in 120K maintenance thing this guy pointed out few other things.
1. Power Steering Flush - He said the fluid has a burnt smell and also mileage factor
2. Replacing Shocks/Struts - OEM stuff running @ 121K

I searched extensively about PS flush and decided to do it myself over the weekend.

I am not sure about the second point though. How would I know if I "have to" go for new shocks/struts?

Don't "flush" the PS! It's a waste of time. Just remove the old stuff & replace it with new stuff.

Struts either work or not. If they are leaking, then replace them. Otherwise, leave them alone. We've owned MANY Hondas & only one needed struts.

Step away from the Midas place.....

Thanks Princess for your reply.

Yes I dropped idea of flushing it and just removes old PS fluid using a baster and refilled with OEM Honda PS fluid. so far so good. I didn't notice any change in the steering behavior though.

As for struts I'll stick to your advice.

I totally agree with your views regarding Midas.

If you needed new shocks/struts you might start to notice that your car has a lot of bounce on the freeway, or that is isn't handling road imperfections well anymore. My 96 Accord "crunches" over dips in roads when I first drive it in the morning when its relatively cool out. Then as I drive it more, it stops. I'm not sure what it is, I assume bushings of some sort.

The things you really need to be most concerned about at this point are leaks and what not. My Accord just rolled 125000 miles and I swear it became a leaking nightmare the moment it happened. I've got to take care of a leaking oil pan, P/S pump, Valve cover gasket, and my cam/crank seals are failing, which is causing oil to leak onto my new timing belt, even though they were replaced along with the timing belt.

I would find a real mechanic, not a chain like Midas, to service your car. Have them throughly look at everything. Catch problems early, not when they're so bad you see the puddle of oil under your car!

If you've never changed your transmission fluid, now would be the time to do so. Honda fluid only, and no flushes! Just drain and refill. Also, you would be due for new spark plugs about now, as they are to be replaced every 30k miles.

Thanks for reminding me about spark plugs. What do you recommend? NGK/Denso/??

My 1994 Accord EX used to do it. I changed the sway bar bushings, and now it's quiet.

Whatever ones were in there originally should be fine. If you look at your owners manual, there is a section there, about spark plugs in the maintenance part. Use whichever are specified there.
