Hey, does anyone know what other brands use Honda engines in their models? The straight Honda lawn mowers are too pricey for me. I know that Sears uses them in their Craftsman line, are there other brands that anyone is aware of? Thanks in advance.

Check out Lowes and/or Home depot. I know Husqvarna uses Honda engines on some of their mowers.
How much are you looking to spend??

We bought the Honda one at Home Depot.... they have end of model year sales sometimes & you can get last years at a discount.

$300 is about the top end for me...The Craftsman one I was was self-propelled for $259. But Sears is on my enemies list now.

I'll check out Lowe's/Home Depot friday whyen I go for paint and 99,234 other things...thanks for the tips!

The whole idea of 'model years' for things like mowers and kitchen mixers always stikes me as odd. If they make a change like a better blade or new sticker on the engine cover, just change the model number.

i was gonna say home depot and lowes have some, but it's already been covered! ;)

i have (should say had-it stayed with the house) a briggs and stratton engine on my craftsman.... slight bit cheaper, my dad talked me into it instead of the honda..... but you're boycotting sears no matter what.....

I may go get the Craftsman/Honda one, just at a different store. It was a very good deal. :dunno:

Is there another Sears that you could give you business to nearby? Then you could get the mower you want. Well, after you calm down.... it was just ONE stupid salesperson..... :dunno: I do understand though.... there's a few places I didn't step foot in for YEARS because of ill treatment!

Or maybe check out Sears online!

My Honda mower is self propelled too... I think I paid just about 350.... It's actually far from the top of the line.... but I wanted what I wanted... When we built the gazebo we placed only 24 inches between posts & planters... so I HAD to have a 22" with a back grass catcher. I couldn't care less about the self propelled part... it just came that way. Our front lawn isn't flat, so it is handy.

Our 2 KMart cheap (less than $100) mowers lasted me 12 years each. Both had one new plug, I don't think I changed the oil in either.... maybe rinsed out the spongy filter a couple of times..... they were the bare bones Briggs & Stratton ones. No catcher, nothing! Our back yard was 150 feet long in the AF on base..... it was work! I do pretty much ALL the mowing... he ran over some plants once & he refused to let him after that!! (I think it may have been on purpose!)

If you can wait a bit your Sears and Kmart mower will be one in the same. :joker:

That's true, S-Mart is coming soon...

I think I'll get it anyway, despite the moronic salesman. The Honda engine is what I want (yes, I will be a geek and put a VTEC label on somewhere), it's self-propelled, and a good deal. The self-prop is a must because the front half of our yard has a pretty good slope for the last 10-15 feet out to the curb. Plus, it's hard to push with one hand; I might spill my drink.

Oddly, my dad, who buys Phords and GM exclusively, sold me on a Honda mower. He's had the same one for 15 years and counting; it's held up well for my parent's huge corner lot; their 'side yard' is larger than my front yard.

might spill our drink!!!

come on now, yardwork shouldn't be THAT much fun!!! :lmao:

i'm gonna miss cutting the grass! that was my bi-weekly exercise!! our lot was about 90x100. somewhat sloped, more so in some spots than others. i think my mower was a "top of the line" but not propelled one. about $200.

mabe the ex will let me visit to cut the grass. i should go mow the relative's yards.... but they all have tiny yards..... my dad won't let me touch his lawnmower or mow his grass even if i used my own mower! they have a hefty yard-something around 90x170. lots of hilly terrain in between some flat areas. great exercise the one time i did it...... :D

I might spill my drink.

If it is a true Honda mower it would be equiped with at least two cup holders for the driver.

Is a drinking hat one of those that you can put the drinks up on top, and then has straws that free up your hands? I'm so there.

If it is a true Honda mower it would be equiped with at least two cup holders for the driver.

Maybe there's an Odyssey lawn mower with 16 cupholders. Now THAT would be something. Better yet, Navi and a 6 cd changer. That would be suburbia heaven.

So what did you buy?

Here's a place to visit if you want to discuss features and learn how to repair mowers. There's more to a good mower than the engine only.
Beware of the Lawnboy 2cycle fanatics!!!

BTW Lawnboy/Toro, Craftsman, Husq, even MTD offer Hondas 160cc OHC on some of their mowers. Supposedly the timing belt is lifetime.

I'd still take a lined cylinder, OHV motor anyday over this engine. Honda offers some of these also, but only on their professional/commercial models.

I got a Craftsman with the Honda motor. It seems fairly quiet for a mower; my ears don't ring like they usually do after an hour of cutting grass.

Hi All:

___They are not Honda equipped (17 HP Kawasaki on the 48” walk-behind and a 27 HP Kohler Command on the 60” LazerZ) but they cut like the wind :D

Hi Guys:

___Max Sidewall on both rears (the fronts are solid) and ~ ¾ - 8/10 throttle. I usually get 2 acres per gallon out of the 60” and ~ 1.5 acres per out of the 48” walk behind. Yes, I do keep track of these things as well ;)

Saw a power washer at Costco with a Honda engine, but no mowers. Maybe some other Costcos have lawn mowers? :dunno:

The website doesn't show items sold at the warehouses. :thumbsdow

Sam's usually has MTD mowers w/160cc Honda engines, but I much prefer sleeved cylinder/OHV/manual choked carbs w/float valve engines.

xcel...Are both of those Toro Red? Are you in the lawn maintenance business or just for personal use? Again, nice equipment. Are they both pressure lubed w/oil filter?

Hi According2me:

___Toro Red bad, ExMark Red good :D

___I use them for my own 2.5 acres as well as a small business. Pressurized oil systems with oil filters are std. equipment on this type of Landscape HW.
