Can't find anyone in my area that recycles it, and I hate to toss it in the woods.

I think Auto Parts stores will take it. no, not around here they won't. i may see if a local auto service station will take it. 07AccordEx-L 10-30-2008, 07:59 AM i dump it into my sink just kidding! mhadden 10-30-2008, 08:34 AM Yeah, it is a total crock that the auto stores will take the oil, but not antifreeze (because they get a kickback for the oil usually!) I found this website for you: http://www.deq.virginia.gov/recycle/usedoil.html nehonda 10-30-2008, 04:51 PM It is biodegradable so you can dump it down the sanitary drain. Just don't dump it down a storm drain which is open to pets and other critters. nocode 10-31-2008, 05:44 AM good info - thanks for the feedback. Just checked the list of places that accept antifreeze and of the 1 in Charlottesville that is listed that takes it - I just called them, they no longer accept it. It may just have to go down the drain. Trip 10-31-2008, 11:45 AM You could bottle it and can call it "Ex-B-Gone" or something. :paranoid: :D Bruce Hawkins 10-31-2008, 01:01 PM I think there should be a law, that if you sell it (commercially), you have to except the old stuff back... elp_jc 10-31-2008, 01:23 PM I also tried to do the right thing and looked like crazy for somebody to take it to no avail. Most told me to throw it down the drain indeed. Oh well, no other choice. At least we only have to do that every 5 years per car. And the drain definitely sounds better than in the woods, where it could kill animals and poison plants. Just my opinion. Later. Not sure if you already took care of this, but usually you can take it to your local landfill. Here in King George I take it to the landfill/recycling convenience center. They have steel drums where you put used antifreeze. Even if they turn around and dump it in the ground, I have a clearer conscience than doing it myself! There are also several similar centers in Fredericksburg. Not sure if you are ever in this area, but just thought you should know. |
