I've finally made the decision to go HID. Luckily, I found a person locally who sells HID kits. The kit looks amazingly similar to the Retro ones sold on this site with shiny aluminum case and all.

http://www.izntrbl.com/product_info.php/pName/lifetime-warranty-35-watt-digital-ballast-conversion-kit/cName/projectors-hid-kits-hid-conversion-kits

This seller wants $150 for the kit and $45 for install. I know I can get it probably a little cheaper from our sponsor but the convenience is hard to beat.

My only question is, this seller operates out of his house and he'll be installing my HID kit in his garage. Do I have anything to worry about? Should I just buy a kit online and have a shop install it?

What do you guys think? I have appmt with him in 2 hours so I have to make up my mind QUICK!

izntrbl (pronounced as i'se in trouble) is known pretty well on another forum I visit. His rep hasn't been perfect, but he does have his positive following. You should be ok.

Since your back is injured, then go ahead and let him install it. It is not that hard anyways.

I just came back from installing the HIDs on my car. The transaction including installation went very smooth. Josh was a great guy to talk to and his friend installed and tested the HID in less than 30 minutes. Everything went smooth. I just need to try them tonight when it gets dark and re-aim if necessary.

Oh, I got the 55w 5K kit as I wanted the color to be as close to OEM as possible.

BTW, I thank both Retro and Xenon for answering my questions. In the end, I had to go with local seller since he provided installation services.

Ha ha ha! I know these threads are worthless without pics but I didn't want to add another HID picture as we already have so many.

Anyhow, I'll try and take some pictures later tonight when it gets dark and post them.:D

It finally got dark enough for me to test out my new HIDs.

Here are my observations and some photos (sorry for the poor quality as I didn't have my regular camera I used my Iphone):

1) This 5K 55w HIDs are ridiculously bright. MUCH brighter than OEM halogens for sure.

2) As you can see on my photos, and stated by another member who recently gave comparison reviews of Retro 55w and Xenon 35w HIDs, I noticed some "streaks" or "shadows" on the ground ahead of me when I was driving. Nothing I can't live with but not sure why it's like that. Does anyone have same issue? Perhaps it's due to it being 55w? I would've preferred an even lighting.

3) I tried the Auto feature and it worked flawlessly. I know some of you think it might shorten the bulb life if you keep it in Auto but I think it's probably ok. I usually don't use the Auto feature anyway so it's not an issue for me.

4) I looked at the light from directly in front about 30-40 ft and the color looked white. However, I didn't notice any hint of blue as you sometimes see in OEM TSX or TL HIDs. Did I pick the wrong temperature? Should I have gone with 6K? :dunno:

Overall, I am happy with this upgrade but a little bothered by the streaks or shadows.

BTW, I drove on a busy two way road just to see if anyone will flash me but no one did and that was good. I also pulled behind a cop on a light and wondered if he would pull me over for being too bright but he didn't.

The color you see on OEM TSX/TL is not due to the temperature of the bulb. The stock Accord projectors are known to have yellow cutoff. If you want color, they would need to be modded. Increasing bulb temperatures won't give you the colorful flickers you're looking for.

No retro for me. I mainly did the mod to increase light output and I got that so I'm happy. I couldn't careless about the flicker. I will however try 6K bulbs when these burn out eventually.

Thanks! I tried really hard to keep mine "stock" but the inadequate headlights were bugging me every time I drove at night.

Looks great man, relatively crisp white-light that's head-&-shoulders beyond the OEM-setup in terms of intensity/range.

Job well done, sir! :D
