View Full Version : Heated Seat Shot, Dealer says not warrantied?!?!?
GuidoCoupeV6 11-04-2008, 05:34 PM So after a weird and frustrating chain of events since my oem fogs have been installed, I received a check engine light for something in the lines of evaporation low circuit, and my driver heated seat completely went dead..
Now they maybe independant of eachother and would have happened anyway but the issue at this point is when i went to the dealer today everything checked out (aside from my dead driver heated seat) and they were about order the seat heated cushion when he punched in my vin etc and it came up that i wasn't covered on warranty for the seat ... My prior car (vw) also was preowned and it too had major heated seat issue's and they replaced both driver and passanger 2x each under warranty.. what gives ...
My car is a certified pre-owned with only 1 other owner than me. Anyone know the lingo on this kind of thing? Am i covered for this? The car hasn't even had its first oil change yet since i picked it up and less than 2k miles driving on it from me ...
The end result was the dealer in talks with the preowned manager to see if they somehow could get it covered for me and to call back thurs-fri to see what transpired...
Accordlover 11-04-2008, 05:41 PM Ok so if your car had more than 36k miles when you bought it CPO, then it came with a 12mo/12k mile warranty for EVERYTHING. If you're past that 12mo/12k, then that would explain why you are not covered.
The 7 year/100k mile aspect is powertrain related, not electrical.
If you are unsure how the CPO program covers you, check it out here: http://automobiles.honda.com/certified-used/warranty.aspx
You really should have had those fogs installed right, sounds like they are causing serious problems! Sorry to hear it.
GuidoCoupeV6 11-04-2008, 05:47 PM Thanks will have to refresh the dealer on that info lol ... car had 29k on it and now has 32k so I think i still fit in there for only having it since end of September....
As for the fogs, they are installed right at this point so hopefully nothing else gets wacky ...
Left-Laner 11-04-2008, 08:24 PM One thing maybe to look at (not sure if it applies to the US). Did the previous owner purchase extended warranty? If so, was it transferrable to you? At a bare minimum, the standard would be 3/36 comprehensive and 5/60 on powertrain.
GuidoCoupeV6 11-05-2008, 11:07 AM Well turns out I am covered but there is a bit of gray area to be delt with in terms of what is actually covered ... The service's arguement is I am not covered for the seat heating pads (both upper and lower need to be replaced)
Called HOA and started a case for the fix and so far both reps have gave me positive info in terms of being covered .. so we will see how it goes since i have to wait for this case manager to call me back with the details ...
Feels like deja vu all over again since this is how my VW eletrical nightmares begin as well over 5yrs ago ... only difference was they fixed everything w.o any questions until the warranty expired ....
07AccordEx-L 11-05-2008, 02:12 PM my seat heaters didn't go out but the seatwarmer light did. the guy told me he'll get it fixed under warranty. did u install the fogs urself or did u get a dealer to? bc if the dealer did then they have to fix it bc it's automatically under warranty if dealer installs. but yeah knock some sense into the stealers, i mean dealers...
GuidoCoupeV6 11-05-2008, 05:07 PM Nah fogs were installed by misc. shop that I knew ... initially had some issue's with a faulty ground wire in the factory harness but that was rectified. Its ironic tho that my heated seat went right after the install but I have a strange feeling it might have be accidentally switched on the entire time it was in the shop hence why it might have burned itself out, just a theory though....
It may have also been defective and was going to burn out anyway so who knows...
The real issue though is whether or not honda will fix it under CPO warranty due to the fact that the "seat pads" stopped heating and are inop at this point!
The fine line in the honda warranty world is whether or not that is covered, since in the service computer it says its not, but HOA says differently and opened up a case file to work it out...
I should know something by tomorrow hopefully, but good news is at least its only the heated seat having issue's at this point :lmao:
Fogs are doing great and are brighter than I imagined, those suckers really light up the road joined with the headlights!
Accordlover 11-05-2008, 05:20 PM Next time, skip CPO and buy yourself a real Honda Care plan. CPO is not worth it.

We got one for my dad's used TL right when the warranty expired, man it covers everything, and has already paid for itself!
GuidoCoupeV6 11-06-2008, 10:11 AM Here are the results of the call back from my case worker from Honda.
Being that I have had the car for only a short while they are going to cover it, but in actuality the seat heating "pads" are not covered but in there terms if the relay or actual wiring went bad that would be covered ... :dunno:
On a more positive note though HOA is one of the few customer related numbers I have ever called to be very knowledgeable, and understanding as well as eager enough to work with you on whatever it is your calling about ... Would strongly recommend called HOA customer care the next time anything goes south on any vehicle you may own ...
GuidoCoupeV6 11-14-2008, 11:15 AM Well this is one of those times where I wish I had something good to say, but in the past 2 days and countless number of back and forth runs to the service department claiming honda had fixed the driver heated seat in my car all turn out to be a bust!! :thumbsdow
I have had two rental cars now in 48hrs (which is the only positive thing) and just got the call saying they went though all the wiring, put in a new relay and tested the switch and came to the conclusion that the heating pads they installed (brand new from honda) are defective and they have to order another set ... which means i have to bring the car in yet again next week!! :dunno: :dunno::dunno:
Never new the dam heated seat could be so annoying, and to think its actually a luxurious option... I was also told not to leave the switch on whenever i get the car back with it in working order because they run on juice the entire time the switch is activated, and as you can see its not an easy fix ...
