Hey guys:banana:
So... as I was spending ~2 hours waxing my car yesterday... I thought about investing in an electric buffer. I have never used one before and I started doing research. It seems like the orbital buffer is the best way to go for a beginner like me... I have been pointed to Porter Cable 7424. What do you guys think?? In addition... are the pads that come with it... or the ones that you can buy to add to your selection... are the pads washable?? like can you reuse them? throw them in the washer/dryer? Or how does that stuff work? anyone know?:dunno:

My question is if there's a benefit of using those buffers, other than the time/effort factors. I apply wax with a foam pad in circular motions, mimicking a buffer; hence my question. I consider it a workout:D. Thx.

The foam pads can be washed. Not sure if you can throw them in the washer and dryer. I use a cleaner meant for foam pads and microfiber and a brush for the foam pads. You can get everything you need off autogeek and autopia.

I just did this to our 08 PMM sedan. I own the Meguaires G110 Dual Action polisher. It does so much better work then a hand can produce. I like the foam pads they just came out with softbuff 2.0 pads that are washable. If you do your research and find the right chemical/wax and technique to use you will be amazed at the final results.

I didn't know about this Forum. It has alot of good information. Thanks for passing it on. As to the polisher, I'd really like to see it demonstrated before buying one.

Yep, great forum there, been a member 4 years. Our local Meguiars distributor does classes and demos for car clubs a few times a year, you might give yours a call, I learned the correct way to clay and polish. I used to think a polisher wasnt needed and could do better by hand, you cant without taking days to it. I have the Porter Cable 7424 and it works wonders, I clean the foam pads with mild car wash soap and water then air dry.

The porter cable is a great investment and will speed up the process of your detail and do a much better job.

I use the PC to apply sealants and waxes because it's easier to get a thin, even coat than doing it by hand. I throw the pads in the washer and air dry
Pick up a couple different colored pads in different sizes .. I use orange for swirl removal, white for polishing, red for applying sealants/waxes, and a lambswool pad with microfiber bonnet for buffing off sealants/waxes .. get them in 6" (for covering a large area when applying a sealant/wax) and 4.5" (good for tight spots and better cutting power than a 6" for swirl removal)
