My coworker thinks my steering wheel cover (stock) is pleather/vinyl. I told him it cant't be. I didn't want to admit it as it is kinda embarassing if it is indeed vinyl.

So, is it leather or vinyl?

The '08+ EX-L steering-wheel is indeed hand-stitched genuine-leather.

Kinda sucks that I have a leather-interior (after-market/dealer-installed), but I don't have a leather-covered steering-wheel or shift-knob... grrr! :D

That's good to know that Honda didn't go cheap there.

Osiris, I think you can install leather steering wheel cover for about $40 (self install). I did it once before on my 85 accord hatchback. It is definitely not an easy thing to do as it is very easy to tear the leather as you stitch it.

Those "wheel-skins" are a viable option indeed, I did one on my '93 Accord sedan back in the day. The install was simple, though time-consuming. However, these don't cover the steering-wheel spokes, so it gives a very unfinished 'look.

I contacted www.american-stitches.com for a quote... you send your own 'wheel in and it was over $250 to re-cover the existing OEM/stock steering-wheel w/ leather!

(perforated-leather or Alcantara/ultra-suede, contrast double-stitching, and extra-padding was all extra...)

Most likely option is to buy a new OEM/stock EX-L sedan steering-wheel from an online parts-vendor/seller for ~$125 (the coupe-version is only $75, but won't fit due to different air-bag sizes). I just hate having to toss-out something perfectly good, namely my own OEM/stock LX steering-wheel.

What do you do with the car while the wheel is sent in? I can't believe that's a viable business. Who would send their steering wheel anywhere in the mail? What if it gets lost?

Mine looks and feels like vinyl indeed. It's slippery, even after using a special conditioner to eliminate that... IF it was leather. Maybe Honda ran out of leather and put this crap on.
Even the cheap leather cover on our CR-V's steering wheel is immensely better than what I have on the coupe, and the steering wheel feels much nicer too (thicker, wtih more pronounced 'grab' bulges). Bottom line is your co-worker is probably right, so hope you didn't bet anything:naughty:. Good day.

What do you do with the car while the wheel is sent in?Turn-around time is 1-week at most, usually. They do stock some core-wheels. And generally, this is a custom/enthusiast vehicle driven business, not for econo-boxes/grocery-getters that are for the most part primary vehicles for individuals.

Also, those who have a daily-driver/primary vehicle & wish for this, usually acquire a core/'extra' steering-wheel to keep their down-time to a minimum. An airbag-less OEM/stock steering-wheel can be acquired for $10-$50/shipped, obviously depending on the make/model. This whole protocol is not much different than the retro-fit projector projects many do for their OEM/stock halogen-reflector headlights.

Creative endeavors require creative solutions.
I can't believe that's a viable business.Oh, believe it brotha'. Those who want a custom/accessorized-&-personalized steering-wheel for a show, magazine/sponsor photo-shoot, or their own project/restoration flock in droves to this vendor.Who would send their steering wheel anywhere in the mail?I have, as well as 100's others that I know. What if it gets lost?Ever hear of package/parcel insurance? Tracking-numbers/delivery-confirmation/etc?

Also, you send the steering-wheel rim which is a relatively inexpensive item, not the air-bag module/cover which is the actual expensive component.

It's not the most ideal of core-exchange/customization-endeavors, but it's how things are done, unless & of-course you're capable of doing this yourself or you can find someone locally.

Any/every professional custom-interior/upholsterer in 'towne would see a sport 3-sport wheel and say they woudn't do it for less than $300, if even that. The install is rather labor intensive, and doing just a single 'wheel makes it disproportionately expensive.

Or just swap for the EX-L steering wheel. It's only $100

Or just swap for the EX-L steering wheel. It's only $100This is what I was going to suggest. Its suprisingly cheap considering a leather-wrapped steering wheel from GM, Toyota, and a couple others is well over $500.:paranoid:

OEM EX-L sedan steering-wheel is ~$125, not $100. OEM EX-L coupe steering-wheel is ~$75. I assume you took the average... ;)
