View Full Version : Serious Question for the Moderators
next_milenium 11-19-2008, 02:19 PM Just curious as to what is the criteria for moving certain threads to different areas of this forum.
For example, my recent threads on CAI and Tires (http://www.driveaccord.net/forums/showthread.php?t=24862 and http://www.driveaccord.net/forums/showthread.php?t=24878) were moved to "The Honda Accord Lab" subsection.
I see numerous threads on HID's and CAI's in the main 8th gen area yet they have not been moved.
Just wondering what the difference is. :dunno:
salvag 11-19-2008, 02:34 PM It really just depends on if they've already worked out their clicker finger for the day.
next_milenium 11-19-2008, 06:08 PM Hm....I guess my question was too tough to answer? :D
A 1 Ownz You 11-19-2008, 06:26 PM lol... what i wanna know is ... how do you become a moderator? is there a test? :lmao:

I've never gotten a straight answer to this question either.
stocker2000 11-19-2008, 06:30 PM I guess the gods need not explain their ways to mere mortals!!!:notworthy Muyahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!:
Aviography 11-19-2008, 06:32 PM Just curious as to what is the criteria for moving certain threads to different areas of this forum.

As you indicated, CAI and Tires were the subject of these two threads you identified, and they were moved to the "Modified" and "Wheels and Tires" subforums respectfully which were part of the "Honda Accord Lab".
I see numerous threads on HID's and CAI's in the main 8th gen area yet they have not been moved.
Us Mods could only wish people would put the threads in the right places to start off with, however we are all volunteers here, regular day jobs, families etc. come first, and we don't always notice these threads not being where they should be, but we move them when we do notice them.
It's kind of like someone asking a cop how come he/she is caught speeding when "all those other people are speeding too, how come you don't go catch them?".
A 1 Ownz You 11-19-2008, 06:34 PM so what if i wanted to volunteer to become a moderator? how would i go about doing that?
stevencrosbie 11-19-2008, 06:39 PM lol... what i wanna know is ... how do you become a moderator? is there a test? :lmao:
It is simple.
We elect moderators generally (this could change at any time) through a semi-democratic election system.
When we mods decide that there is more work than we can handle, we add new mods to the team through voting. This was done just a few months ago and would easily be understood if one took the time to read through the various other forums here (you know...the ones that we move threads to b/c people seem to only think 1 forum exists on DA....).
We as mods will screen the applicants. We know who lies and who doesn't as well as some people's history. There are some people on this forum whom we know have a serious history of lies and will never be a mod (even if they were elected).
So...you have to be impressive enough (across all generations of Accord) to have the popular vote from the forum. This would mean posting in other areas of the forum. As well, a moderator would have to understand where posts belong.
Why are some threads moved and not others?
Like Avio said, sometimes we miss stuff. I have a real job that is taxing. I don't have time to piss away at work on the forum (sometimes I look during lunch or while on a teleconference).
stevencrosbie 11-19-2008, 06:47 PM Oh...and thread moved to the appropriate forum.
Once again...not an 8th generation topic....
Maybe its the do as I say not as I do rule.LOL
Left-Laner 11-19-2008, 11:33 PM Oh...and thread moved to the appropriate forum.

How ironic that this very thread gets moved!
RTexasF 11-20-2008, 04:08 AM It should have been moved, it was in the wrong place.....AGAIN!
The moderators here do one hell of a good job and get paid zip for doing it. When I see a post in the wrong area I notify a mod and ask that it be moved. Same goes with dumping SPAM or straightening out a member that's out of control. Why not assist them instead of making smart ass remarks like some of those above?
Inspector1 11-20-2008, 04:31 AM It should have been moved, it was in the wrong place.....AGAIN!

Well said
Welcome to the Entitlement Generation.;)

Osiris_x11 11-20-2008, 11:38 AM Damn ya'll, I want my money back.... err' uhhh- hmmm, wait it's free! (n/m) ;)
On-topic, proper thread placement would make a lot of the other sub-forums more active than they are otherwise. It's obvious individuals have the concern that their thread will be lost in an abyss of topics that are in more lively sub-forums, but if the subject matter is worthwhile, those who matter will actually get to it. Just have to have faith in the system. . .

The mod's do a lot around here and they are a key ingredient of how this forum has reached such an effective level in many ways.
To second RTF, be part of a solution.
And to second Inspector1's entry: "Entitlement"...ain't it the truth?!
BenjiBoy650 11-22-2008, 09:44 AM Maybe its the do as I say not as I do rule.LOL
How is it the do as I say not as I do rule? Have you caught mods placing a bunch of threads in the wrong forum? :thumbsdow
I don't move threads usually, unless it's really obvious. There is no criteria. I'm sorry that we didn't take time out of our lives...between moving to different states, taking care of kids, working a real job, getting degrees in Engineering, having to keep up with our cars, etc...to draft up a Constitution of Guidelines to Move Threads From People Who Think 8th Gens >> All. I'll get right on it
How do you become a moderator? StOp WrYtnG lYkE diS :P But stevencrosbie pretty much hit it. You kinda do have to know what you're talking about, and not just about HID's or just about a CAI, but about a wide range of car stuff.
And thank you for those who are supporting us.

You should also use grammar check and common sense, that part wasn't referring to you anyway. Thank you once again for the push to "do my job," you know, the one for which we aren't paid? When you become a mod, then you can tell us to do our job and don't be so sensitive. Until then, go to the corner. I apologize that I don't have tons of time to piss away on a forum to "do my job," I do have REAL friends and a life. Just come here once in a while now to see if I can help anybody with a mechanical problem, because a lot of people on here sure can't do much besides "contact Honda" and "go to the dealer NOW!!!!111" Unlike some people, I'm not content to leave rattles alone, and I realize that bringing cars to the dealer often results in it coming back with new scratches. That's why I take apart my dashboards and door panels by myself to track down rattles, and maybe someone could benefit from that. I'm also not sure I've seen many other people on this forum talk about Honda AT's and how to replace the filter, how to add a better filter, what alternative fluids to use, what the cause of failure is, etc. I also happened to co-author (for lack of a better word, author is an overstatement) a couple of very popular FAQ's but that's not my job I guess.
"Every now and then" would be a huge understatement.
Entitlement Generation it is! :lmao:

This is what people mean by ENTITLEMENT GENERATION!
Telling the mods that we should be grateful to move threads instead of telling the members to post in the right forum is what others mean by the entitlement phrase.
That is what is wrong with my generation! "Fix my mistakes for me so I don't have to learn how to do things correctly."
Wow seems like some people take things very serious Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
If you were not referring to me then you should be smart enough to not write it when replying to something i said. Why don't you go down to the drug store and buy a bottle of common sense for yourself.LOL
And obviously you shouldnt be happy to move thread to proper placed but that is part of the job description isn't it.People don't post in wrong area just to piss moderators off.Once again the intelligent people of driveaccord.net take what Berg says totally out of context.

You've been here for just a few months. When you get some time under your belt here (and this is for ALL the newbs) you will begin to have a tiny clue as to what the mods do here. Do you realize how many hundreds of thousands of times people have posted wherever they want in just the last two years alone? NO, YOU HAVE NO CLUE! How about the Spammers? Oh, you weren't here then were you? How about the many other things that have happened here in an attempt to upset our community over the last several years, OH, you weren't here? MUCH more has gone down here than most can even fathom so keep your crap to yourself. Good suggestion? Let's here it in a well presented manner.
Perfect? No, of course not. A tight knit community? Yes, for the most part. Our folks have a tie here and do their best to keep it running smoothly. Most of the time they are totally unappreciated but they keep on in spite of the punks and wise asses that "know" how to run a forum.
I am not directing this at you but more of a general statement to all here that think they are superior to those that run this show to the best of their ability.
A little respect goes a long way here. Yes, that works both ways. Members and moderators must maintain it.

Well said. I used to post on The Car Connection. The few moderators they had pretty much gave up on patrolling the forms and ignored our requests to elect a few members to be moderators. As a result the forms became over run with spam and most of the members left. I occasionally check back in and the few members that still post over there do nothing but participate in and import vs domestic flame war. The moderators on this form help keep this form great.
