hey so for the past 2 weeks or so i realized my radio has a lot of static and is beginning to be very annoying.. however today while i was parked, i realized the radio had no static whatsoever with my headlights off.. but when i turned my headlights on again the static was back.. i tried this with multiple stations and it all does the same thing.. so i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or if anyone knows how to fix this. thanks

I would have the dealer check it out.... sounds like a bad ground somewhere, although I am by no means an expert. JaimieJam is the resident audio guru, he might be able to confirm or tell me I am a moron, but either way, I would say take it to the dealer.

Edit, I just noticed you have the aftermarket headllights, the dealership might not be an option. I would recheck the wiring harnesses you did when you installed the headlites, check grounds etc.

My radio has the worst reception ever, day or night, and with DRLs off and everything. An unplugged antenna would have practically zero, so that means the antenna sucks, no?

im thinking your hids are probably having electrical interference with the radio. for the people who say their radio sucks when the headlights come on.

The HID Ballasts actually cause the extra interference. If your looking to listen to the radio with your HIDs on, your kinda SOL unless you can some how get a ground around pretty much everything from the bulb to the OEM connector. I was debating on whether or not to try to figure out a way to reduce the interference but due to cold weather and snow have not been able to try.

Anyone by chance know where our normal radio antenna is located? That might be part of the problem.

Its in the rear window glass, either embedded or surface mtd. like the rear defroster. I forget which.

the antenna is in the back glass, and the antenna amplifier is in the passenger side C pillar. the amplifie then has a blue and black wire comming out of it. one to the AM antenna in the glass, and one to the FM antenna in the glass. I have the same issue also. i thought maybe the 12v input to the amp was being affected, so i ran the 12v input off of a relay. it stabalized the voltage, but didnt fix the static. i tried hooking up a honda test antenna and had similar reception. i even hooked up the PXAMG HD radio tuner hoping a different FM tuner would help, but it didnt. i am running out of ideas.

I DO NOT have HIDs, in case it wasn't clear (and DRLs are off). And the static is awful since day 1, with no mods whatsoever. And it's not the area, since the CRV has perfect reception. Weird.

yeah, thats why i said for the people who are experiencing problems when they turn on their headlights.

i don't know about your problem though, but now that i think about it mine has really crappy reception too.....but i rarely ever listen to the radio when i have my ipod and the 6-disk/mp3 player.

any chance of adding an antenna booster? Would need a 12v power source..but should be easy enough to test out.

I know this is due to the HIDs. I did some research into it before installing my HIDs and it said that if you antenna is not located in the front of your car it should not interfere. But as soon as I installed the HIDs the reception went to crap :dunno:

They are very very rarely needed with our HIDs, mostly just the Class-C kits on clearance. They are more for those with other kits like DDM, VVME, the ultra cheap brands where this is much more common. And if it is happening on the stock headlight system with the halogen bulbs it is very likely they will help there too.

Ok, the FM reception seems to be better now that they are in place. The real test will be the ride home.

I did have to take the male clip apart because the wiring was not attached...soldered it and it was good to go!

Your tint should not have any factor on this. The metal in your tint (if you have higher quality stuff) is so little that if it played a role. You would not get reception in any building that has metal siding... I am still convinced that it is the ballasts that is creating this interference.

Anybody know what kit he has? Have not heard back from him yet via PM. Maybe they are not sheilded.
