Sweetrexflexall 12-17-2008, 12:01 PM Sweet! Could I be the first poster in this thread? Cool! Anyway, I miss my 94' Accord sedan. Bruce Hawkins 12-17-2008, 12:03 PM Cool! 88AccordLX-i 12-17-2008, 03:28 PM Older Accords FTW!!! Bruce Hawkins 12-17-2008, 04:41 PM My Mom has a 1987 DX. I'm the lucky guy who gets to work on it... Osiris_x11 12-17-2008, 05:45 PM My own first brand-new car was a '93 Accord EX 4spd. auto-trans' sedan (green/beige)... :D It spent it's life in WPenn, Florida, and Texas & stayed in the household until end of '03 or early '04 w/ ~147k miles, running like it was literally brand-new! Other than oil-changes, brake-pads/discs, tires/alignments, timing-belt & exhaust-pipe fix' (both @ 125k miles), it never-ever needed anything. Sold-it for $3.6k cash, placed a neon for-sale sign in the morning & it sold by the afternoon (numerous buyers lining-up, literally). . . Bought it for ~$18k + TTL (OTD: $19.1k), got $3.6k back for it... so a net depreciation of $15.5k for 11 years (132 months) of ownership. Therefore, cost-of-ownership was ~$114'ish/month! Bowzer 12-17-2008, 06:23 PM I don't know which I think back to more fondly: my first ever new car was a 2nd gen 84gray LX Hatchback...and a replacement 85 when that one got totaled in a head on. Lots of good times in that thing...memories of girlfriends, road trips across the south loaded with my camera equipment, built my first real sound system in it, took it places it shouldn't go, did things in it I shouldn't have...good times. Then the 4th gen: finished college with it, first real job(s) with it on duty, the incredible dark charcoal gray metallic color, the svelt 2 door coupe lines, the endless miles in it, it went to 2nd car duty when I strayed from Honda to a Jeep Grand Cherokee. There were many mornings as the JGC racked up miles where I walked past it to the trusty aging Honda cause that hunk of Jeep was out of commission. And now as my current 6th gen nears semi-retirement: it was the first car my new wife and I bought together, it brought our first born home from the hospital, it has served us well as the family grew to three kids, and it will stick around a while longer as the backup. dlr2009 12-17-2008, 06:54 PM The first car I went to a car lot and bought for myself was a two year old 1977 accord. http://img481.imageshack.us/img481/8572/accord771zc2.jpg The second car I went to a car lot and bought for myself was a three year old 1985 LX accord hatchback. http://img481.imageshack.us/img481/5091/accord821gu8.jpg The fourth car I went to car lot and bought was a brand new 1989 Accord LXi Sedan. That Accord is currently home safe and sound in my garage with just over 93,000 miles on it. http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/1050/imgp0844tw7.jpg namegoeshere 12-17-2008, 09:49 PM Sweet! Could I be the first poster in this thread? Yes, unless I delete your post. Then Bruce Hawkins will be first. :D Hondaboy9602 12-18-2008, 12:31 PM My first car was a 1996 Accord EX-L. My dad bought in new in 95 after we spent a year car shopping for a replacement for his 86 Jeep Cherokee. When I got my license my dad passed the car down to me. It got me through high school until I passed it in on to my brother when I went away to college. He ended up totaling it in 2006 with 130K on it. It was a great car and never gave us any problems and was still running great when it was totaled. It was the first Honda my family bought and we haven't bought anything since. http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh61/Hondaboy9602/005_2A.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh61/Hondaboy9602/004_1A.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh61/Hondaboy9602/003_0A.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh61/Hondaboy9602/002_00A.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh61/Hondaboy9602/028_25A.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh61/Hondaboy9602/018_15A.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh61/Hondaboy9602/026_23A.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh61/Hondaboy9602/Picture001.jpg fame925 12-18-2008, 12:55 PM my first car was a 1988 honda accord coupe burgandy red...never took pics because i didnt have a camera ...i got into a small chase with the law and my headlights ****ed..i couldnt see anything 20ft in front of me. i was going about 55 on this windy road that ive only been on twice before and saw a sharp curve coming up and all the "stuff" i had in the trunk weighed it down so much that it threw the back of the car and made me spin out and the car felt like it was about to flip, until i saw this gaurd rail coming right at me and broke in throught the back seat hit my back, the column hit my head and glass went everywhere, when i jumped out as fast as i could i realize my 2 front whels were hanging off a 200ft cliff and my gas was leaking and the car was still running... but atleast i lost the cop i drove the car for another 2 months after that..i still miss my lil runner nighthawkcoupe 12-18-2008, 01:00 PM my first car was a 1988 honda accord coupe burgandy red...never took pics because i didnt have a camera ...i got into a small chase with the law and my headlights ****ed..i couldnt see anything 20ft in front of me. i was going about 55 on this windy road that ive only been on twice before and saw a sharp curve coming up and all the "stuff" i had in the trunk weighed it down so much that it threw the back of the car and made me spin out and the car felt like it was about to flip, until i saw this gaurd rail coming right at me and broke in throught the back seat hit my back, the column hit my head and glass went everywhere, when i jumped out as fast as i could i realize my 2 front whels were hanging off a 200ft cliff and my gas was leaking and the car was still running... but atleast i lost the cop i drove the car for another 2 months after that..i still miss my lil runner That would be cool if it happened. fame925 12-18-2008, 01:03 PM That would be cool if it happened. wow lol...cuz you hella know me..and it wasnt cool...its was the only wreck i got into when i was 17...relax im not a storyteller, im glad you think im tryin to show off...and i dont consider it "cool" maybe you need to get out more ItsaHonda 12-18-2008, 01:39 PM I owned a 1981 Honda Civic 1500 wagon that I found on the lot of the local Honda dealership with only 59,000 miles. Only the driver's seat showed any sign of wear. It started right up and ran like a new machine... even had cold AC. After a complete tune-up, t-belt service, all new fluids/filters/hoses, brakes, tires, etc. it was perfect. I drove the car regularly for about two years and never had to do anything to it except put gas in it and change the oil. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/CarAlbum018.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/81Civicengine2.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/81Civic-1.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/81Civic3.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/81Civic2.jpg I sold the car four years ago with a little over 80,000 miles and believe it or not, it is STILL going strong today with over 130,000 miles. The current owner has used it as a daily driver and swears that the car has been the most reliable vehicle she has ever owned. The starter did give out about two years ago, but as far as I know, that has been the only repair outside of routine maintenance. It looks a little rough today, but still runs just as good: http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/81Civic1.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/81Civic2-1.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/81Civic3-1.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/81Civic4.jpg fame925 12-18-2008, 01:45 PM Nice Pic at the end ItsaHonda 12-18-2008, 02:22 PM After the 81 Civic, I bought a 1983 Honda Accord SE. It had a lot more miles (170,000) but it was a much nicer car in terms of comfort and features... it also had an extra gear for better highway cruising. Despite the higher mileage, it was still in exceptional condition and ran great. In fact, I drove it from Florida to Michigan and back twice (loaded down with all of my stuff) when I was moving to Detroit. The car was pretty loaded, had leather seats, power sunroof, power mirrors, door locks, windows, cruise control, AC, luggage rack, rear disc brakes, etc. It also had a factory stereo equalizer and a digital display of the date and time (and everything worked flawlessly). I didn't keep this car quite as long, I sold it along with my 1996 Accord (primary vehicle) to upgrade to a 7th gen Accord. In any case, it was also a great car for the time that I did have it, start and go dependability and was very impressive in terms of overall build quality. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/83Accord.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/83Accord96Accord4photoBucket.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/83AccordSunroof.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/83AccordOdometer.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/Accord83Interior.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/83accord3.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/83accord5.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/83accord6.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/83accord7.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/83AccordEngine.jpg 88AccordLX-i 12-18-2008, 06:00 PM Ah, the old Accords are the best! From the way my mother is talking, the 92 may be near retirement as well. :bawl: What's wrong with the 92? lou_vnj 12-18-2008, 06:33 PM I will be trading in my '94 Ex this Saturday, with 186,000 trouble free miles, never failed to start, never had to do anything to the engine or transmission. Only replaced exhaust, fuel sender, ABS pump. Nothing else other than recommended service. I passed it to my wife about 8 years ago, now she wants a new car (she's never had a brand new car) with side air bags. I moved on to a Ridgeline last year, she will be getting an '09 Accord EX-L 4cyl with navigation, I hope it does as well as my '94. I will really miss the '94, especially since it runs just as good as the day I bought it! ItsaHonda 12-18-2008, 07:08 PM What happened to the 88? That 92 also looks great, why the possible plans for retirement? My first Honda was a 1996 Honda Accord EX. I bought it as a Certified used Honda from Regal Honda in Lakeland, FL. with 45,000 miles on the clock. Awesome little car that sold me on the Honda brand: http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/96AccordSideView.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/1996AccordFront.jpg I watched the odometer roll effortlessly to 170,000 miles before selling it to a friend of the family (his first car) and buying a new 7th gen Accord. He tore the car up and I bought it back from him in the beginning of the year with 217,000 miles (and a blown transmission). http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/96Accord11.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/96Accord10.jpg Despite having been driven hard for 50k miles and being in several accidents (one causing extensive damage), the engine still started right up and ran great. I had a Honda reman. transmission put in (along with a long list of other stuff), drove the car from New Orleans to Orlando, had some more work done to it here and then sold it to a friend of mine who is now taking much better care of it. The car now has 230k+ miles and is running great. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/Accord25.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/Blazer.jpg Of all the generations of Accord, however, the 4th is my favorite... so I finally bought me the 4th gen Accord that I have always wanted (well, aside from an SE): http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/93Accord16.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/ItsaHonda/93Accord13.jpg That's all for the early generation Hondas/Accords... ItsaHonda 12-18-2008, 07:26 PM with 186,000 trouble free miles, never failed to start, never had to do anything to the engine>> Same experience with my 96. The engine has never burned a drop of oil, broken down or failed to start in 12 years and 230k+ miles. Tow truck, what's that? The alternator, AC compressor (amazing!), power steering pump, and many other components are still the originals from the factory. The original starter made it to just under 200k miles before it finally quit (but didn't leave the car stranded). I thought that the ABS system had finally failed @ 220k when the ABS light came on one night as I was driving, but the current owner said that after topping off the fluid, the light went off. :dunno: 88AccordLX-i 12-19-2008, 02:59 AM What happened to the 88? That 92 also looks great, why the possible plans for retirement? We gave the 88 to my cousin who just turned 16. It is a great car to learn how to drive in (no airbags, no traction/stability control, no ABS...haha). Giving it to him also relieved us of having to pay to have the rust repaired. The 92, well, she is getting old (no A/C, lots of rust). We are also in the process of having some kind of BIG "tune-up" done to the engine, which required a whole bunch of stuff. It is only half-way done, but we aren't sure that we want to put any more money into it. It still runs great, but it is just time for something new. My mother is looking at getting a big promotion soon, and if she does, she will be getting a new CR-V, my father will drive her current one, and then I will trade in the Taurus for something newer. :paranoid: Also, it blows my mind when people here talk about their Accords and burning oil, none of our vehicles, including these two, ever burned oil... maddog0z 12-19-2008, 06:22 AM The first car i owned was a 92 accord 5 spd. I loved that car, but upgraded to a 98 5spd, then eventually my 04 6 spd. I sold the 92 to my friend for 2000 bux. She let me drive it once and awhile for old times sake, but then her sister totalled it. When i sold it off, it was never clean again. Id like to find one and drive it for kicks, same w/ a 98 5 spd. Hondaboy9602 12-21-2008, 01:48 PM I like the stories about the older Accords, keep them coming. hillstones 12-22-2008, 11:37 PM Here it is...the 1980 Accord Brochure. I scanned the pages at high resolution, 300 dpi, and even merged the fold out pages as a single page. They are individual jpg files in the zip archive. Although the Accord Sedan was luxurious, the AC and AM/FM/Cassette Stereo were optional. However, the 1980 Accord featured the new "Trip Odometer" which was described as a "handy little device which allows you to measure trip length." Let's not forget that the coin pocket was standard. Enjoy! http://web.me.com/peter.hillman/Site/accord/1980/1980accord.zip 88AccordLX-i 12-23-2008, 10:14 AM I like the stories about the older Accords, keep them coming. When I was 9 years old, I took the 92 and drove it into a tree because I forgot to use the steering wheel! :lmao: j.schwartz 01-26-2009, 05:01 PM I really like my 4th gen. My first car. Four years of my life I used my dad's 1987 LeSabre (still his daily driver). I liked the torque but it didn't have anything else going for it. Now being accustomed to my own car, when I've driven my dad's car again I hate it. Just feels wrong. And handling ****s. And no third pedal. A couple of weeks ago I got challenged by some guy in a new-ish Ion at a stoplight. 15 years newer than my car, and only very slightly quicker (I don't call my car quick though). And I didn't even know he was challenging me until I was halfway through first gear. That was fun. I'll tell ya, I worked at a GM dealership last year. I drove a lot of cars, even on a stretch of highway. The Malibu seems OK but I'm not a fan of the G6 and I can't stand the Cobalt. Seems like GM could learn a thing or two from Hondas 19 years older, especially when it comes to things like interiors. Here at college my grandparents live in town. Recently my car was temporarily out of commission because I had to replace a hose, and so I borrowed my grandparents' Explorer. The 4wd was nice in the ice, but I was amazed at how good it felt to get back into my own car. Something about the ease of driving, the natural feel, it's like it just becomes a part of you. And I love the styling. Low beltline, long hood... I don't like the modern trend of squished-up butt ends, rounded-off hoods and high beltlines. Ugly. I know I'm going to miss this car when I eventually upgrade... MaineMDX 01-28-2009, 04:40 PM Thought I would submit pics of my three Hondas since 1982. Starting with my 1982 Accord LXI Hatchback in maroon which was a dream after my '79 Mustang. http://driveaccord.net/forums/images/attach/jpg.gif My 1988 Accord LXI 2 door in chateau red which is still running, not as strong as it used to, but owes me nothing at 305K. http://driveaccord.net/forums/images/attach/jpg.gif And last, my winter car the 2001 Acura MDX Touring in mahogany. http://driveaccord.net/forums/images/attach/jpg.gif rafael73 02-15-2009, 07:34 AM One thing that I miss from old Hondas: backward hoods.
