You don't need to change your oil every 3k miles. That's jiffy lube and oil changes places way of making money. You should be able to go around 5k miles on regular dino oil.

the odometer light is relatively easy to fix. it just takes 6 screws to get the gauge cluster out and for you to look behind the cluster in order to swap out the old one for a new one.

i was actually thinking of doing that already cuz i want to change the bulbs to l.e.d. but i haven't found enough info on how to do it without messing up the needles or if i'm gonna have to rewire everything and solder resistors and all that.

CDsDontBurn
08-17-2010, 11:13 PM
well, unless you want to get your needles a different color other than the stock orange, then there's no need for you to mess with the needs themselves. all you need to do is just replace the bulbs on the backside of the cluster.

i don't know the exact honda part number for the bulbs, sorry. but, if you want to get LEDs, go to ledautomotive.com and check out their selection. they have instructions on what to do as well.

http://www.ledautomotive.com/product.php?id_product=50

http://www.ledautomotive.com/product.php?id_product=49

that's where i got my LEDs from when i replaced the bulbs. i went with the white kit. and because of the filter in the gauges, it came out a baby blue which i really like. i have a picture up somewhere about this in another thread. i think it's somewhere else here in the 6th gen section.

1998 Accord EX with 230,000+. Clock light is out (smelled melting rubber/plastic when it went) odometer light is out, light is tempermental on the radio- right knob only?? Transmission is finally giving up. Rebuild is in the next few weeks. BUT, in 230K, it just developed the first oil seep. Been dry and pretty since then. I stack up the miles. I have a total daily commute of about 105 miles. About 50ish one way. Castrol GTX every 3000 to 3500 and a Fram. Hopefully the trans rebuild and oil leak fix at the same shop will put it back on firm ground. I would like to put a half million on it. Son can kill it in a few years when he turns 16.

I'd be sure to replace the pcv valve with a new oem one. If the old one cloggs it can cause a leak around the top of the engine.

I just picked up mine this past week and it had 221k+ on it.
2002 Coupe EX - original engine/tranny.

Got from original owner, she only did one transmission drain/fill at 130k miles. You know what was the first thing i did when i brough it home. YIKES.

But i have to say, it shifts so smooth, you couldn't tell it has that many miles on it. I've owned 3 5th gen, 1st one had 38k miles and sold at 147k and this one shifts so much smoother, so i'm hoping it will last me a while.

Both original engine/tranny.

Actually neither have had any real issues other than maintenance.

The coupe uses a little oil and has developed an intermittent stalling issue in the last 2 weeks, but I believe that is probably easily fixed.

I have a 01 exl 6cyl with 47,500 miles, I bought it new in Sept 2000. It runs like a champ, gets 25-6 mpg city/urban driving and have gotten 32 on the interstate several times. I check my mpg every fillup, a habit I got while stationed in Germany back in the 70's where we were rationed fuel and you had to know how far you can go on those 200 liters.

My 2000 V6 Coupe (September 1999 build) has almost 217K miles. Still going strong on the original engine and transmission.

Previous Hondas in my family:

'92 4-Door EX 5-speed (Bordeaux Red Pearl) I bought it new and still had the original clutch when I sold it in the Fall of 1999 (142K+ miles)

'92 4-Door LX Auto (Arcadia Green Pearl) bought new by my wife. Had 184K miles when we sold it to a neighbor in 2002 who is still driving it in NY.

'88 4-Door LX 5-speed (Charcoal Grey Metallic) I bought it used in '90 with 78K miles. Sold it in 1992 with 140K miles.

'81 4-Door Civic 5-speed (Metallic Silver) - my parents bought it used and I took it over driving it back and forth to college. Sold it in '90 with 118K miles.

'78 Accord LX HB 5-speed (Metallic Silver) - parents bought new but the CVCC engine didn't last too long.

'75 Civic CVCC HB 4-speed (White) - parents bought new and my sister took it over. Sold sometime around 1985.

One of my Sales Reps in Georgia had a '99 V6 Sedan that racked up over 340K miles then he sold it to his son in TN who may still be driving it.

Yes. My car was one of the lucky ones regarding the transmission. I received the notification of extended warranty letter but had already passed the mileage for proper coverage. I change my engine oil (Pennzoil 5W-30) every 4 to 5K, only use Honda filters and have the transmission fluid changed at regular intervals by the dealership I purchased the car from (Hendrick Honda). I have noticed weird shifting when cold and when passing, so I'm trying to make it last until I find another daily driver.

Reviewing my file on this car, I recall:
One seat buckle was replaced under warranty.

The ABS module was replaced under warranty.

Instrument cluster replaced @ 90,770 miles. Dealer did NOT change odometer but put a little sticker in the door jamb which is wearing away. I'm having problems with disappearing LED segments in the replacement display.

Rear main seal replaced (my cost)

Front engine mount replaced (my cost)

EGR valve cleaned then replaced with newer version with larger ports.

ICV (idle control valve) failed and scared me to death. Engine RPM's constantly went from 1K to 3K over and over on multiple occasions when cold!

D.S. window regulator just replaced (motor was fine).

Paint is crazed on the hood and wearing thin on the roof and decklid. It sits outside all the time except when I leave it at the airport.

D.S. seatback release is acting up. I put my briefcase in the backseat every day.

Auto climate control acts weird on sunny winter days. Could be the sunlight sensor.

Seat belt retractors are starting to weaken.

The seats in this car (EX-L Coupe) are sometimes uncomfortable. My wife hates riding in the passenger seat - it makes her back hurt.

I'm on my:

3rd battery
3rd set of Michelin tires
2nd set of front brake rotors
Original struts
Original exhaust system
Original rear rotors
2nd LR brake caliper

Lots of highway miles makes these cars last a long time. My daily commute is 32 miles. Many trips to NC, MD, PA, NJ, DE, WV for work.

yamaha225
01-14-2012, 05:56 AM
Lots of highway miles probably also helped the transmission because of the lack of shifting.

On the horizontal surfaces, I start with the shovel then use a soft-bristle broom to get the majority of the snow off the vehicles. Lots of practice.

His current mileage on the TSX is 199,872. He indicated he is on his 3rd set of rear brake rotors - I'm still using my original set.

Edit: He bought the TSX in July 2005 (not '04). Door lock module has gone out on him twice - he now just uses the key to manually lock/unlock the car.

I rolled over the 225k mark over the weekend. On my way to work this morning, I rolled over 225,500. I did a lot of driving this weekend.

Also during the weekend, I got new calipers for the front. Along with the calipers, I got new pads. I wanted a new set of R1 rotors as well, but I just didn't have the money for them so I got me some Duralast brand OEM replacements.

Now, I just need to do my K&N drop in filter cleaning, get new spark plugs, adjust the valves, replace the EGR valve, replace the IACV, and clean out the EGR port and my car will be running like a champ :).

Now, I just need $650 to get all that done...

It still works, but my car isn't my DD anymore.

Oh, and I need to replace the bushings on my car as well pretty soon. When I did the calipers and pads over the weekend, I took a look at all the bushings and most of them are just about done. One of them is already broken and some grease is starting to squeeze through one of the weak areas.
