My 2000 Accord's odometer lcd readout is intermittent/inop. It seems like it's a sensor problem as sometimes the readout appears to work fine in that the numbers look fine and normal but sometimes the numbers appear as all zeroes as if there is no data being relayed and other times they appear faded as well. Any ideas on what may be the problem and what the fix is? Thanks :dunno:

Sounds like bad (dirty or loose) connection of the digital readout assembly, is it LCD by any chance?
You may want to disassemble the instrument assembly to the LCD display level and reseat the LCD display by carefully unplug the LCD from the connector it is in and plug it back in again, this symptom could also be related to other connectors as well on the cluster assembly, so you might as well reseat all connectors in the instrument cluster that you can get to.

Yes, it's an LCD readout. It does seem as though it's a connection problem. Does it require extensive "digging" to reach the connections and a fair amount of expertise and/or delicacy to reset them? Is this one of those jobs left better to a pro? Thanks

It might, I don't know anything about your car, so you have to decide on yourself, you might want to find a buddy or some one with electronic background/experience to assist you on this task.
I'm only suggesting that you take your time slowly disassembling the cluster assembly, don't force anything, and just see how much you can get the pieces apart to get to the connectors, it may only be a bit of corrision that unpluging and repluging the connectors cleans the contacts and everything will be good again.

Thanks. I don't mind some "digging"--I'm just trying to get an idea of the location of the instrument cluster connections and if it would require extensive disassembly of either the dash or some other components underneath that would be beyond my ability or patience levels. Anyone know of a manual that covers an operation like this? Thanks again--this is a great forum and service. I appreciate your sharing your expertise.
