View Full Version : 2002 Accord Remote Specifications
jujupenderliii 12-21-2008, 11:44 AM I know that the remote takes a CR 2025 battery, 3v. But what I really want to know is the Range of the remote? 50 ft? 20? 1 inch? I have searched and searched and can not find out! I feel like I have to be at least 10 feet away from my car before it'll even respond with the unlock or lock or trunk button. I want to say it's just that the battery is getting weak, or is it just the remote possibly? Or is it really SUPPOSE to be this weak? My Grandpa's GMC Truck can reach 65 feet, and their battery life is just pitiful! Also, the horn response on GMC remotes is alot faster than My accord is. Thanks in advance!
Accordlover 12-21-2008, 11:56 AM have you changed the battery in the remote?
jujupenderliii 12-21-2008, 12:02 PM Not yet. I was actually planning on hoping that someone would know a "range" of how far the remote actually is intended to transmit. Although, the battery only costs 2.99 at Walmart I think, so I'm probably going to have to jet by there today and buy one, just to see if there is any improvement.
cajun 12-21-2008, 12:36 PM I don't know the range, but on my 02 it's way more than 10'. I would guess somewhere in the 30'-50' range. Time for a new battery.
jujupenderliii 12-21-2008, 02:02 PM Thanks for the approximate range on your remote. Anyone else? I'm sure this isn't the case, because of the CR 2025 having the same voltage, but what kind of battery do you use in your remote? And how often do you have to change the battery?

Mine is all of the above. Sometimes it works from far away other times I have to be right next to the car. :dunno:

I replaced it with whatever the original was, and I've only replaced it once. Probably got it at Radio Shack.
leothefishee 12-22-2008, 02:03 PM my range sux too, about 10 ft, i just use the "point the remote toward your skull" trick if im desperate. im sure it wasn't like that when i first bought the car new. my agent showed it to me and it was more like 50ft.
DonutLimo 12-22-2008, 05:55 PM 50+ no problem, my batt is at least 2 years old. Sometimes even through walls and doors at that range. Once in a while I'll have to click it a few times no matter the range. There is a thread floating around in here about that somewhere. I'll see if i can find it tomorrow and put the link in this post.

Inspector1 12-22-2008, 06:06 PM I will agree with DonutLimo  50ft + I am sitting 30 ft away inside my house and can lock/unlock. 1 battery in over 5 years in my remote. The Mrs has the original and she has not complained;)..
I1:)
jujupenderliii 12-22-2008, 08:36 PM Hmmm. I'm thinking it's my remote. Because I just got a brand new battery today. Very slight improvement....VERY..slight. You can't really even tell the improvement, it's just that minute. So I'm thinking I'm going to get one off of ebay, and reprogram it myself. Isn't it reprogrammable without going to the dealership? I think..If I'm not mistaken it is. BTW, just got a warning ticket tonight going 65 in a 55. Haha!
Bruce Hawkins 12-23-2008, 06:11 PM I get 15 Ft min.; Typically, I get 20-30 Feet. There seems to be an angle that's not so good.
The fob is 433 MHz, I think. So check for things that may radiate RF. I think there is an internal antenna, off one of the modules inside the car. I remember thinking to my self how that could be miss-installed and would mess up the receiver's range.. I forgot where it is. I'll check my factory manual schematic, over xmas...
Also, I replaced my fob, so I'd have a spare, maybe this would help (I drop my keys all the time, not good for the fob)...
dtraill27 12-27-2008, 04:15 PM i just replaced mine battery for my 02 coupe with an energizer 2032 i got at autozone 4.99 for two. replaced both remotes and now im getting distances of atleast 50 feet. for a couple bucks its worth just trying to replace it
hope this helps
