just got a broadcast voicemail on my work phone.... all of our companie's external email is shut down to protect us from this virus. apprently it's spread via emails that are written in german. i don't have too many details, but when my company shuts down email communications while they await updated virus protectoin, you know it's bad.....

just beware and don't open any email you weren't expecting, ESPECIALLY if it's in german!!

update~they said as long as you don't open the attachments in the emails in foreign languages, you won't get the virus.

they finally started letting our emails go again a few minutes ago! ;)

gotta remember to update my virus stuff tonight at home....

There will always be viruses, adware, trojans, spyware, etc... So, if you're not running protection software, your an idiot. Sorry, but you are. Especially true when there are very good free ones out there.

If you need anti-virus protection, go download this free one. No need to spend the money on Norton Anti-Virus or McAfee.

http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/

Go to the bottom of the page and download "avg70free_308a468.exe"|

Other freeware that are good to have are Ad-Aware (http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5) and SpyBot (http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10289035.html?tag=lst-0-1)

Each of these targets a different segment of the problem; virus, aware and spyware.

Can you give us the name of the specific program/virus you are trying to remove?

i'll get it later when i get home... can't remember the specifics right now.... something about trjoan small.18t or somethig to that effect as well as trojan backdoor something or other.......... the small.18t seems to be the worst offender....

i also run adaware. i have to reload spybot..... (had to uninstall it recently while trying to fix another issue....) spybot and adaware were fighting each other...... :paranoid: :lmao:

Try booting your system in "safe mode" and then run AVG and Spybot (Ad-aware won't catch trojans). By running in safe mode, you have a chance to remove the bug before it copies itself into resident memory, as it does when booting normally.

You could also try Pest Patrol - home users (http://www.pestpatrol.com/Products/PestPatrolHE/) . You can download an evalution copy. If you like it (it monitors your registry in real time) you may purchase it later.

I just got this from my sisters work account. I dont think its a virus, but someone definatley got her account. She said not to long ago someone emailed her back telling her to quit sending this crap. My sister replied asking what she was talking about, and the person flipped out on her.

Many times the newer viruses send out mass emails from the computer they are infecting, but they use an email address from that persons addrss book. For instance Sue's computer is infected but when the emails go out they say they are coming from John, one of Sue's friends or coworkers.
My boss had a couple of people email him to let him know he had a virus. I scanned his work and home computer but found nothing. we were able to figure out eventually that it was someone that my boss used to work with that was infected, he got an anti-virus software and the problem was solved.
You could have your sister email people she knows, and ask if they have this persons email address in their address book. If they do and they dont have an AV program, or an updated AV program then have them download the one wards suggested. I hope I actually made sense with all this.
