Not a coupe person myself (at 6'4"....) but this review is interesting in that the words "world class" are utilized. The comparisons to come in the mainstream publications will be interesting.

I must have missed something. How does a car maker build a 2.9 liter turbocharged/intercooled powertrain and only make 212HP??? :thumbsdow

Just visited www.thegenesiscoupe.com and it notes the turbo is a 2.0 liter engine, not a 2.9 engine. Typo somewhere in the loop.

Wonder how the guts are of the Hyundai 2.0l engine....my old 1999 Passat 1.8t (in the sole possession of my god-son) now has 240k miles on it, engine or turbo have never been touched. I was speaking with him yesterday, notes that the car is using 1/2 qt. of oil between oil changes and thinks the "use" is a leak he's waiting to track down as time permits.

Anyway, nice to see new vehicles coming out with strong reviews right out of the box. When the time comes I'll look at the sedan.....but since I like rowing my own gears still....choices will be few.

Drools.

Did I see 3.8 V6 and 6MT in the same sentence?

If so....I have to drive this car.

The coupe and the sedan look SOOOOO different. Granted, the Accord Coupe/Sedan don't look very much like each other (although you can confuse each other when looking at it from the front), but DAMNN...this Hyundai Genesis Coupe/Sedan should have different names.

Never the less, the RED Genesis Coupe looks nice...
For some reason I'm not liking the silver... or the front end, the front looks like it got smushed.
The rear end is sexy as hell though.

It does sound interesting doesn't it? That review was more about driving in Korea than the car they were in. All I got out of it was that the SE is too stiff in the suspension.

Def' something I need to see in-person, to fully appreciate & discern the form/shape. Perhaps then, I can offer a better insight/opinion!

True to Korean auto-maker form, it seems to be a fusion of myriad design trends & styling cues (whether that's good or bad thing, who knows)... :paranoid:

I love the blue and the dark gray.

The interior looks well put together. For the first time, I'm excited about a car other than my truck.

I was excited about the old TL for two years until I got mine....but this car is exciting to think about. I can't wait to see one in person (although my wallet wants to :D )

:notworthy nice!!!

The car def has come along way, any news yet on a future R-Spec? The interior looks very comfortable and yet sporty... all you need is a nav in there and your all set! Looks like a baby g37 in that dark sleek silver/gray if you ask me

wow, if that car can stand the test of time (i.e. long-term reliability) then i may try to hold off on trading in the accord and run it into the ground, then purchase this.... :deal:

then again, maybe not....

Yes, I think I can officially say the Hyundai has arrived. And I would definitely choose it over the Accord Coupe - It simply looks better. Hyundai is not the lowly Korean Chaebol that the Japanese and the world can laugh at any longer. All I can say is, wow, it looks better than the G37;)

More like Hyundai created a great looking RWD coupe while Honda is still trying to make their bloated Accord into a sports car.....

This car is gonna be a hit next year. I can't wait as there is a really good chance this guy is gonna get one! Finally....a Hyundai with an MT with some balls under the hood.

but I think its awkward that its a 2 door Genesis, the 4dr Genesis was aimed at full/mid size lux sedans like the M45, Lex GS, even LS...it was meant to be a luxury car

but the coupe is more sporty aimed at the Mustang? Not a bad thing but see where I am going with this?

Exactly. Same kind of people who bought the XG300/350, Azera, and Kia Amanti...champagne taste on a beer budget

I actually drove an Azera though, they are very nice.

OR the same kind of people who bought an Accord over the TL, Camry over the Lexus, Nissan Maxima over the old I35, VW Passat over the Audi.

Not only will this car be cheaper, but money in the bank sure wil be nice. Gone are the days of having to get an overpriced lux brand to get a nice performing car!

never been to much of a fan of Hyundai but in those comparison pics the coupe def has the edge over the infinity in my book, kinda looks audi-ish on the front styling ...but they do almost look identical ...

Makes me think about how Honda's new coupe even though its a new body doesn't seem as exciting to look at as these newer coupes being released, whats up with that?

PRESS RELEASE

HYUNDAI RELEASES ADDITIONAL ENGINEERING AND FEATURE INFORMATION FOR THE ALL-NEW 2010 HYUNDAI GENESIS COUPE

Genesis Coupe Delivers an Estimated 30 MPG

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Oct. 30, 2008 – Hyundai released additional engineering and feature information for the all-new 2010 Genesis Coupe today. The Genesis Coupe, and its rear-wheel drive platform-mate the Genesis sedan will make their Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show debuts next week.

"One of the program targets for the Genesis engineering team was world-class weight efficiency," said John Krafcik, vice president, Product Development and Strategic Planning, Hyundai Motor America. "When you look at the size and content of both Genesis models, you'll find we lead all our competitors in weight efficiency. We also target leadership in power-to-weight ratio. We think that's just smart strategy in today's world. It pays huge dividends in both performance and fuel economy, and that's especially important in the segments in which these cars compete."

Vehicle Engine Curb Weight (pounds) Length (inches)
Genesis sedan 3.8-liter V6 3748 195.9
Genesis sedan 4.6-liter V8 4012 195.9
Genesis Coupe 2.0-liter turbo 3303 182.3
Genesis Coupe 3.8-liter V6 3402 182.3

Both Genesis Coupe and sedan are rich in ultra-high-strength steel, leading to world-class body rigidity. The Genesis sedan is 10-12 percent stiffer in torsion than Lexus and Mercedes-Benz competitors, yet it is lighter than these benchmark sedans, and offers more interior room. At just 3,303 pounds, the Genesis Coupe 2.0T is hundreds of pounds lighter than all of its IRS-equipped rear-wheel-drive competitors, with body-bending rigidity 24 percent higher than BMW E46 M3.

Vehicle Length Curb Weight (lbs.) Horsepower Power-to-weight ratio
Genesis Coupe 3.8 182.3 3402 310 (est.) 11.0
BMW 335i 181.1 3571 300 11.9
Infiniti G37 183.1 3616 330 11.0
Camaro LS 190.4 3780 300 (est.) 12.6
Challenger 197.7 3819 250 15.3

This focus on weight efficiency pays dividends across the board. The Genesis sedan owes its ability to deliver both strong performance (0-60 mph in just 5.7 seconds) and excellent fuel economy (25 mpg EPA highway rating) in great part due to its impressive weight efficiency. Similarly, the Genesis Coupe 2.0T sets a new benchmark for front-engine, rear-wheel-drive gasoline fuel efficiency with a remarkable 30 mpg estimated EPA highway rating, because of its weight-efficient platform and its efficient 2.0-liter, low-pressure, turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

"While some turbochargers sacrifice smooth drivability with high operating boost pressures in the 20 psi range, Genesis Coupe uses a refined, low-boost calibration for smoothness and efficiency," said Derek Joyce, Genesis Coupe product manager. "We could have opted solely for big performance numbers, but our focus for the 2.0T was a more balanced package."

GENESIS COUPE PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS
With the start of U.S. market production now just a few months away, Hyundai Motor America is releasing model configuration and color choices for the 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe.
"Genesis sedan has set a new benchmark for the $35,000-$40,000 premium sedan, and we think Genesis Coupe will do the same in the sport coupe segment," Krafcik said. "From our 30-mpg 2.0T with its low-pressure intercooled 4-cylinder turbo, to the 3.8 Track model with an estimated 310-hp and Brembo braking system, Genesis Coupe offers a wide range of powertrain and performance choices for driving enthusiasts of all stripes."

Impressive car, but pricing will be critical...and not a word on that yet. It beats the crap out of an Accord 6MT, and I own one.

And for those nay sayers, Hyundai is not your early 80s Excel anymore. Plus with a 10-yr/100K warranty, RWD coupe and sedan, DOHC V6 engines, and even a DOHC V8, they're doing MUCH better than Honda lately. Hope that awakes the 'performance first' giant :lmao:.

.....o/a length is damn near 20 inches less than my 6M.............

Seems like a decent 'little' coupe. (The price however is not about to be 'little'.....)

I would think a whole passel more than the 23.4k Naval Reserve bread I laid out for the 6M...........

Ahhhhhhhh...............the agony of choice.

best, ez....
